The lady who helped me was very friendly and informative, and didn't try to unduly pressure me to buy anything. I wish I could have taken pictures, but, you know, it's art. You can't really take pictures. There were a lot of interesting things using recycled materials in addition to more traditional types of paintings and jewelry. The next time you're in downtown Port Angeles, stop by The Wharf and check it out. You're bound to find something you think is interesting.

You had to look up and down every few steps to not miss something. I found it cool that they also had inspirational signs as well as ones asking questions, inviting guests to think about deeper things. Some items apparently are designed to decay with the forest. Not all items had signs to describe the art or even give it a title. You just had to roll with it.

I was reading my Frommer's guidebook to look for things to do around Port Angeles and it mentioned this place. I'm not the biggest fan of contemporary art, but this was amazing and FREE! We only spent a couple of minutes inside the fine arts center, because the outdoor sculpture garden was out of this world. Nestled under a canopy of trees were all sorts of modern sculpture, a lot of it whimsical, hanging from the trees, suspended in the air, and blending into the environment. It was everywhere and you almost felt like you were on a scavenger hunt. What a fantastic way to introduce my kids to art. We all had a blast wandering around the woods looking for the next discovery. My favorite sculpture was the collection of sweaters on a hillside (see photo).

From our very first email, communication with Chris (the owner) was fantastic -- clear, prompt, and genuinely accommodating. Whatever we asked for, he found a way to make happen. The location is great, and the space itself is as charming as a large room can be. The hand-painted, cozy chairs were such a beautiful touch -- they let us create intimate seating areas throughout the room instead of one big, impersonal setup. Tables and chairs were provided, including large tables for setting up the food, so logistics were a breeze. We opted to buy out the bar and bring in our own liquor, and Chris accommodated that too, staffing it himself along with one additional bartender for the night. Above and beyond that, the team even picked up our dinner plates afterward and rinsed them all -- unbelievably helpful, and not something you expect from a venue! The overall experience was seamless from start to finish. If I ever need a space for a large group again, I'll be booking Studio Bob without a second thought.
