Unless you like bad local theatre, comedy shows (which you can usually get free tickets for anyways), and unknown artists you probably wouldnt have gone to see even if the show was free on 6th Street....you should avoid this rip off. There's 2 reasons they dont show you the list of events before you sign up - The one they tell you, that its a privacy issue for their ticket providers. But also 2, the fact that they have crap. Otherwise they would at least have a list of past shows you could look at (to get an idea of what to expect). But they don't even offer that before sign up. I was actually quite disappointed and, for me, it was not worth the cost - I never was able to use it. There were several issues I encountered, first is that there is no notification about tickets available or events, making it pretty easy to completely forget all about it - especially with so many other venues emailing out ads and schedules weekly (or more frequently). Then when do you remember to go check, either nothing is going on or there is only one ticket left for the show you want to see, meaning you have to go alone. The times I did go check for shows, they were all occurring within a day or two of when I looked, so I guess it would be fine if you don't have anything going on and are just looking for something to do. My husband and I see a lot of performances/events in Austin each month (we have diverse interests- sports, theater, ballet, symphony, local bands) and yet there were only a very few events/shows available through Fill A Seat that interested us and then we were not able to get two seats to those shows. So I will not be renewing our membership. It's difficult to write this without giving you specifics, but the membership agreement prohibits naming shows or venues...on one hand I understand that then (in theory) people wouldn't buy tickets, they would just join Fill A Seat, but on the other hand, if I had seen the list I wouldn't have spent the money. There are no big performances and very few that your friends would even recognize when you check in on FB or Yelp :-) This is probably way more than you wanted, but I wanted to let you know that we do get out a lot in Austin (so it's not just that I'm difficult to please) and I really wanted to be fair and not just slam FillASeat...it isn't a "bad" thing, it just wasn't my thing. ...also, I find it an odd coincidence that the only positive reviews for FillASeat were all posted on the exact same date. read more

Agree with the others. They offer lots of local comedy shows that usually give you free tickets anyway (with drink minimums). On rare occasion, something semi-interesting comes up (but not something that I would normally pay for). But, there are very few tickets (maybe even 1 set, who knows) to these semi-interesting events and they are grabbed before you can get them. I check my email all the time. As soon as I get a new event email, I go directly to the filaseat site. But, the event is already sold out. It's only $40. But, it is $40 wasted. It is a brilliant scam. But, still a money making scam IMHO. read more

I purchased a membership with groupon because I like shows and concerts and thought this sounded interesting. I really wish I would have checked yelp first... because I seriously doubt I will ever actually use this membership now that I've seen the types of events that are offered. I check the website in hopes of using the money I spent on membership towards something, but there is never anything remotely interesting available. Even if I was interested, most of them are sold out. Right now there are 2 events offered on the website and both are sold out. read more

I signed up one month and within a few weeks I was sitting in AMAZING seats at the Rita Rudner/Brad Garrett comedy show. I paid $75 to see Rita in Vegas a few years back! It was a great show. Since then I have been to a few AA Baseball games. I have responded too slowly to catch a few other great shows (if you don't reply almost immediately you will most likely miss the opportunity to grab the tickets). I have seen a couple pop back up the night before (but by then I have already made plans). They also repost sometimes with discounts (two big shows popped up after they were listed as "sold old"...the second time they were offered as a special deal for members at $10 each, when online the tickets were going for $45-85). I agree that there are a lot of local events (a couple college and even high school shows) but it is a fun way to get out of the house. If you come into this as a way to do something different just to get out together, do it. BUT BE FAST! I check every morning before work, at lunch and at night. I also set myself up on email alerts. It sounds like a lot but my hubby and I turn it into a game and have a blast. Better then sitting at home on a Thursday night! read more

Everyone has covered the details of why this is a worthless membership. I emailed for a refund and they responded with: "...we are confident you will be able to see some great entertainment during the year to make up for the cost of membership. Of course we advise not to expect big name shows or major league events, but there should be a variety of entertainment throughout your membership." I responded by challenging them to agree to refund my membership at the end of the year if I did not use it. The responded to that challenge by indicating they do not refund membership fees. I guess they weren't really THAT confident... Don't waste your time or money. You will buy a membership, check the site a few times only to be disappointed, then forget about the site completely only to get a rare newsletter drawing you back only to see that everything is sold out that is even remotely decent. read more

I joined with a groupon.. So i guess i got my money's worth. They don't let you see what kind of tickets until you sign up. A random city theatre show, sometimes a cap city comedy but it's no different than being on their mailing list. I've been a member for about 3 months, check it regularly and haven't gone to a THING! The ticket events aren't that good. I was hoping for Austin symphony or something. There were some Spurs tickets that I missed. I'm curious how many memberships they sell versus # of tickets they have a month. For what we all pay you think they'd buy some good tickets to things just to entice us. Save your money and just buy tickets to shows you want in Austin. read more

Have to agree with everyone - this was a total waste of money. I also bought it based on a Groupon deal and was really excited. My mentality was "well, if I go to at least 2-3 shows, it'll be worth the money." Wrong. The shows they post generally have tickets available to the general public for $5.00. And as others have mentioned, it's always shows to some local theater or comedy show. I love Austin locals and would support these shows, just going through FillASeat was a total waste of money. I was really hoping to see some music - but it's never available. Anything remotely interesting is sold out every time you check the site. I've never once used my membership. Oh well. I also purchased the Groupon and figured if I see 1 show I'd have paid for the Groupon. However I have to agree with the other 2 reviews. Don't waste your money. Most events I would even care to see are posted as sold out. How that's possible I have no idea. Here's hoping the next 4 months will bring at least 1 event I would like to see and am able to get a ticket for. I stupidly referred my friends as well so we could all go together to events. I have to disagree with the more negative posts. There are a lot of cool shows, particularly at smaller venues that I frequently forget are available. This is a good way to take in a show per weekend if you want to do so. I have not used it as much as I thought I would, but that's my own fault. Comedy shows and "off the wall" stuff are especially available. I would love it if the bigger venues were also offered, but I imagine those usually sell out so there's no need for them to offer their seats. read more

I belong to the NJ edition and its lame as hell. If you are a fan of comedy clubs I suppose its a good deal but I am not. I was hoping to see theater and concerts. Most of the concerts that have been listed are symphonies or some lame ass sleeper not even my parents would go see. The worst part about it is if you don't check it like every hour of the day, every day, you will miss out on the VERY RARE venue that MAY appeal to you. Most of the events are located in mid to South Jersey (I live in NORTH JERSEY) and I have a feeling that is because the person who locates the venues LIVES in the Philly area and has no clue as to the many venues in the north. I made the mistake of buying my parents a Twin Cities membership, and I go on that site often to look and see if there is something that will appeal to them...NOPE. They too are not fans of comedy clubs. I was hoping it would get them out more to see plays that can be expensive when on a fixed income. I will not waste my money and renew when my membership is up next year. read more

I actually really like Fillaseat. We've been using it for over half a year and from the very first show it paid for itself. Many great comedy shows. We've enjoyed every show we went to. Theater, Comedy, and Improv. We haven't been to any music shows but that's because we haven't come across one that would interest us, but there are a few of those every once in a while. The majority though are theater and comedy/improv. The venues range from hole-in-the wall small theaters to the large venues like the largest performance center and comedy club in Austin (can't use venue names for legal reasons). We've gone to about one show a month and the main reason for not going more often is due to our scheduling issues. The only lack of a 5th star is that I wish it would be more high-visibility shows (like popular concerts), but those do usually sell out. read more

I think fill a seat has a nice affordable program that allows my husband and I to attend many more performances than we would otherwise be able to attend. They offer a wed variety of shows from comedy to theatre to music. They certainly offer things that are unique! read more
