Parking can be problematic, as there were times when the garage was full. Restaurant food and drinks is a plus, and room service was excellent. All in all, we had a nice week there.

The furniture was gross and uncomfortable, there was no space for a family of 4 and we had to put our suitcases in the kitchen. This place needs a lot of work. The only decent thing is the location, that's it. This also most likely didn't meet any code that is required to run a "hotel", kinda surprised it hasn't burnt down yet. Not coming back it was gross and an unpleasant stay.

Both times, we have stayed in the Captain's Suite, which is right off the beach, and it has the best views. The bedroom window looks out across towards the mainland. The winter managers are great. They made sure we were comfortable. The cottages themselves are quite rustic, and eclectic, yet charming.

The sphere was so cozy and comfortable, and the engineering and design behind the sphere is just incredibly intelligent and such a marvel. The owners/hosts also do such a great job of making your stay 100% comfortable. They prepared a big snack basket for us inside our sphere filled with baked goods, granola bars, and fruit, and another small plate of fruit and cheesecake and a small bottle of champagne. They also prepared the most delicious yogurt parfait for us to eat for breakfast the next morning. Lying in the sphere in the forest is just the most amazing and tranquil experience. Our sphere had a wireless bluetooth speaker which we used to play relaxing music in the evening and in the morning. The acoustics in the sphere are fantastic. I loved waking up in the sphere and just staring outside the window in the morning, looking at the tree branches surrounding us with some soft jazz music playing in the background. For anyone who is worried, the bathroom facilities are also super clean and modern and comfortable. They are just a short walk away and there are headlamps provided in case you need to walk there at night. I honestly can't recommend this experience enough! It was definitely pricey ($330 for one night, and our sphere was the cheapest available), but I am really glad we did it and am looking forward to returning again in the future!

Nestled within a wooded area is a converted private residence offering three individual rooms; ours is the upper deck area complete with fireplace, an open plan area with queen bed, comfy quilted bed spread, downy pillows, a pull-out double sleeper, cozy sofa and TV area, country style eat-in table and chairs, kitchen area with fridge, micro-wave, toaster oven, and ALL the kitchen supplies you will ever need! Our fridge and counter top had already been stocked with tomorrow's breakfast to avoid disturbing us in the AM; fresh fruit, juice, coffee, tea, bagels, bread, spreads, hot and cold cereals, granola. A full bathroom offers a large shower stall and vanity with lots of room. Overall, our setting is similar to that of a cabin in the country with all the conveniences of home. Parking for our SUV was found in front of the steps leading up to our upper deck room and could not have been more convenient. As we get settled in, the sun can be seen setting on the horizon through the woods adjacent to our cottage; the Strait of Georgia can be seen clearly beyond the shore line. And it's all surrounded by nature, with eagles soaring overhead, mountain views across the water and classic BC driftwood-lined shores. Until you go to the southern part of th beach, that is, where it's lined with a whole bunch of beachfront resorts. So at easter, when we felt like getting out of the city but weren't quite brave enough to camp, I thought of those resorts and got googling. I ended up choosing Beach Acres because it was reasonably priced, was one of the closest to the less-developed northern part of the beach and because it seemed to be less densely developed, offering more space to relax and let the kids loose when the beach wasn't an option. My hunch paid off - it turned out to be a great place to stay and was extremely good value for the price. They have all the basic stuff you need for a family getaway - including pool, basketball hoops, 3 tennis courts, a playground, bike rental and plenty of open space. The cabin we were in was very well appointed and although each one is privately owned, I got the impression that they all met similar standards. Plus, it has an English pub-style restaurant on the property that is one of what appears to be very few decent places to eat in Parksville. If you're looking for pampering at a spa getway, this isn't the place for you, but if you want a great fun family break it's ideal.

Our rental was owned by the resort (as opposed to being owned by an individual, which some cottages are). We found our rental very homey. It was spacious and layed out in such a way as to allow independent activities in different rooms that didn't impact the other person. The "resort" in mid-winter was quiet. The cottages are arranged close together, and it's easy to look into the windows next door. It's a tolerant jaunt to the beach and Rathtrevor Provincial Park, though not ADA accessible. If ADA access is needed to get to the beach, drive to the park from the resort (about one mile). The beach and park are outstanding in winter. The resort staff were very helpful and downright chipper. When we checked in, they kindly and patiently explained what was to us a unique style of accommodation (cottage rentals in a resort). Complaints and concerns expressed during our stay were graciously received, also. The kitchen was very good; plenty of accouterments and appliances. Note that the only food in the kitchen was salt and pepper. Bring spare paper towels and napkins. Washer and dryer worked great, and included one load's detergent. Bring detergent. The fireplace was either on or off, no adjustments. It heated the cottage quickly. We never figured out any of the three televisions' remotes, which didn't matter b/c we didn't want to watch TV. Could have been fresh batteries were needed; spares are recommended, as we changed the dead ones in the cottage clock. Beds were okay, with plenty of blankets. Bathrooms were fine with plenty of linens. Lots of closet and dresser space. Great layout in the cottage; very easy to move around.

After checkout, we got a bill for not stripping the beds, cleaning up and doing dishes. At no time were we told at booking that we would be charged for not cleaning up. This is first resort to charge you for not telling you that you will be charged. Definitely Not Going Back. We go to a resort to relax, Not to do housework!
