So this barber shop is a very happy medium if you want that classic New York community barber shop vibe like coming to America movie range of conversations often hilarious. But also this barber shop is levels above a local inner city barber shop, it's more avant garde but not TOO fancy and stuffy. It's a very cool place. Maybe the Raf Simmons or Rick Owens of babershops. It's highly respected amongst the classy but cool enough for the young and fly guys. Had a great experience here! I thought it was just hype, but yo it's worth it! My barber was DK and he gave me what I wanted and added his own twist to it. I think it's good that he gave his advice and twist to it because if I got exactly what I asked for, then I woulda looked like an idiot. I was going to ask for my sides to be completely shaved, but he and I agreed on a fade because my ears are popping out like a monkey and it woulda just looked weird. Walked in on time , Rich was backed up and put me on to get cut by Sean. Told Rich i was a in a rush. Sean has been cutting for a year and is new to the field - been working in this shop since the summer. Showed him a picture of the cut i wanted. The guy took 45 mins to cut my hair - only thing he did was give me a tape up on the sides/back and the two slashes on my side (all could be done in 15 mins. PAID 25 dollars for the cut and came out looking like i got a trim instead of a haircut. bottom line - i expected to come out looking fresh regardless how simple or little time it takes to do the cut, but did not. money talks, expected my hair to be taken care of if not just me as a person, did not happen. expected ALL the barbers to be at a certain skill level if you are working at a place that charges 25 dollars a cut, not noobs. Ive been going to this place almost exclusively for the past year and was gettin my hair cut by Nate. He was by far one of the most humble guys in that place and always kept it real. When you were gettin a cut you always were the center of attention and he focused on every last detail to make sure you were satisfied with the cut. It was a sad day when he left this place, but I respected it enough to keep coming back until I heard an hour before my appointment that they raised prices to $60. I've heard rave reviews of this place and even went out of my way to drive an hour to get here. Came in with two other friends. Both were pleased with their haircuts but I was sadly disappointed in mine. The female who cut my hair, her name was kaz, was in an absolute rush to finish and while not noticeable at the shop, she did a sloppy job of fading the hair and also cutting the back portion of the hair. The sides had many different patches of hair that was not cut and it was not noticeable till i checked at home. The back of my hair was an absolute mess and I had no idea because at no point during the cut did she show to me how the back looks. As someone else mentioned she needs to work on giving fades. I couldve gotten a better fade for $10 at a local barbershop I had much higher expectations especially since the haircut was $25 without tip. Today I finally decided to try it out and booked an appointment with Rich. This has probably been the cleanest and most smooth fade I've gotten in my life.
