After my daughter was born, we had a lot of bills for different doctors. My wifes doctor(s), my daughters doctor, my sons doctor, my doctor - there were many bills and we paid all of them. I know this because I had to prove that I paid them, OVER and OVER and OVER AGAIN. I went to the bank and got proof that the balance in question was paid - this was not sufficient. For the people on the other end of the phone, I didn't experience any of the "kindness" that they so proudly brag about on their site. They also brag about "exceptional customer service" none of which I experienced. The only thing I experienced was weekly and sometimes daily calls from someone on the other end who was occasionally out of line, demanding payment for bills that I already proved that I paid. The number 1 cause for bankruptcy in this country is....take a guess...medical bills! That's right! If you guessed correctly you'd better pray to something that you never get cancer. Its not exactly cheap. My mother is losing the fight with her second round of cancer at the moment. Her monthly medication and doctor bills are four figures. She spends a fair amount of time with collections agencies even when there is a slight misunderstanding between the doctors and the billing. So come home after double mastectomy and field calls from angry collections people. Yes they did this. That's how they gave back to my community. So the likelihood of these folks calling people to pay a bill that they cant afford in order to possibly stay alive is fairly high. If it's a medical bill, and they are being called by a collections agency, there is a very real chance they simply can't pay it. Or they are choosing to have a place to live instead of repaying a bill they have already paid. My son has severe nut allergies - I have no idea why. Nobody in the family has any allergies but here we are. Every time someone gives him a nut by accident like on a croissant, Kringle (marzipan) or a slice of cake (almond extract...seriously Almonds are everywhere) we have to give him a shot from the Epipen (ask me how much THOSE cost to have around, and give to the grandparents, and replace after they expire annually. Google: epipen price increase, for some light reading). After he gets a shot from the Epipen he has to go to the emergency room (mind you an ambulance ride today will run you around $1500 out of pocket unless you can get the insurance to cover it, which they sometimes do. Ask me how I know). Then you have emergency room costs which also have out of pocket expenses on top of what is billed to your insurance. So you can see, if my son goes to a birthday party and someone hands him a piece of birthday cake, an almond, cashew, chestnut, macadamia nut, pecan, pistachio or walnut, a cookie, or some Nutella (my poor kid will never know the taste of Nutella... if that doesn't crush your soul a tiny bit, you are a robot. Go power down) it will cost us four figures to keep him alive. Every time. If that somehow happened a few times in one month, I would lose my house. That is a fact. Since my daughter is still in diapers, its going to be some time before my wife can go back to work so I'm working two and three jobs so that we can afford to live in a place that has things like parks and schools, and so that my wife can drive a car that's safe, and so that my kids dont have to exclusively get hand me downs for their birthday. People and life are not black and white. We constantly find ourselves in situations beyond our control which makes companies like this...well not evil but certainly not good. The real bottom line is that companies like this mess around with peoples lives in a very real way. You're kicking people when they are down and a lot of the time in this day in age, they didn't do anything to deserve to be down or to be kicked. They certainly don't have all the answers. You say that you want to give back? You say that you want to make a difference in the community? Why dont you get on the phone with pharmaceutical companies that are raising the cost of medications thousands of percent instead of trying to extract that from people who are trying to stay alive? Called me saying I owe money to the fire department for pulling up to the scene of an accident I was involved in. I told them the fire department didn't do anything to me other than check my blood pressure and that's it. Lady on the phone said I would need to send in proof that they didn't do anything to me. How does that even make sense? How about you prove you guys did anything to me first before sending it to collections? I called LADWP, the actual power company, to see if they were using "fcnetwork" as a partner or collection service and they said they were not, that they do not use outside collection agencies. I don't answer their calls. if you have google voice, simply mute their number and you'll never hear from them again. gv goes straight to a voice mail message that says "this number is no longer in service" i've been screening/not answering their calls for many years, and they just started leaving a message once in awhile. everything i've read about them makes me feel very sad for people that don't know any better and answer their calls. if you do want to pay down your debt, there are many other options, don't choose to deal with them just because they phoned you and they make it seem like they're in charge. read more

Just learned about this debt as I had moved after my divorce and ex likes to go through and dispose of my mail. In the process of trying to get in a house, contacted FCN, paid my balance, and was told I would have a letter via email in 5 days from payment showing paid in full. Called on day 3 to reconfirm, yes you will have it day 5. Day 5, no email. Called and was told they have to request the letter and I would have it the following day. Day 6, no email. Called again, to be told the request was just done that day and I wouldn't get it until the following week being 10 business days. Three different employees, with three different procedures and they failed on each one. I am now homeless because they failed to provide that letter via email on day 5 as I was assured. I never received my final bill from socal gas. A couple months later, I check my credit and the only negative mark I have is from this company in collections. I paid it immediately and explained to them I never received the closing bill. I asked them politely to please remove this from my credit and they said it's not company policy and all they can do is mark it collection paid in full. This has had a damaging effect on my credit and has contributed in getting denied for anotcar loan, renting houses etc. I'm requesting that the owner Alicia Sundstrom please take a look at this and consider how much harm you are causing your customers after they pay you by not updating your policy's. They put a fake 26 year old unpaid debt of $1,504 on my credit rating for a Kawasaki I bought in 1988 through Household Retail Services via the dealer and paid the bike off early in 1991 and received the pink slip. In 1993 I sold the bike with the pink slip or I could not get DMV to allow me to sell a bike that was not mine legally! They insisted I owed this debt and never paid for the bike. I said, ok since I never paid the bike off and never got a pink slip , if I pay the $149.99 to squash the 26 yr old $1,504 debt you insist I owe, then you will send me the bikes pink slip or authorize my receiving the pink slip ! They openly admit they have no pink or title and cannot get me one even after paying the alleged debt on the bike ! Of course I knew there was no way they could give me title or the pink slip and thought this was enough to prove to them this was ridiculous, but nope! they continue to damage my credit knowingly posting data they know to be false. I learned that these companies can renew expired statute of limitations of 20 plus year old debts by tricking people into paying anything on the alleged debt! They know they are wrong yet refuse to do the right thing hoping to blackmail me for $149.99 ! Watch out for these folks as they are professional liars! A year after my rental house was vacant and empty for a few months I received a "bill" from the city for a sewer charge along with an apology about being so late due to bookeeping errors. I called the "collection department" which turned out to be a collection agency in Phoenix (the house is in California) and told them I owed nothing as the house was vacant therefore no sewer was used and I had no account or agreement with the city to pay for non-useage of utilities. They told me I owed the bill and I said please sue me, I would be honored to meet them in court. I also promised if they attempted to hurt my credit rating I would sue them personally. Now a couple of years later the "debt" has been sold to another bottomfeeding group, FCN. They called and I again told them the facts, then they sent a warning letter promising to hurt my credit if I did not pay them. I again said please sue me so I can end this farce and they said they do not sue for such a small amount. I replied that with no judgement there cannot be any ordered payment but they said they would collect the money anyway. They also denied having bought the "debt" , claiming to work for the city. I also promised them personal lawsuits if they attempted to hurt my credit rating. I can and will do just that if needed. Just tell them to leave you alone or pursue a lawsuit in any court for a legal judgement and promise to seek punishment for them for any continued harassment. read more
