Got home equity loan with financial plus. I had the absolute pleasure of dealing with the loan manager Jamie Hogue. Very kind and professional. He answered all questions quickly and thoroughly. Always responded promptly to all forms of communication. Made the whole process an absolute breeze. Felt like I was in safe hands the entire process. My family and I couldn't thank him enough. I had an unpleasant loan application process with FPCU/Ottawa. I applied for a loan and never heard back. I had to follow up multiple times to no avail until the last call when i was placed on hold for several minutes until they sicked their CEO on me yo give me the bad news. I applied for a loan with another local bank and was not only approved for that loan but have since applied for and received approval for a 2nd loan because of the exemplary payment history i have established anx jncreased credit rating. Gee, my original review of this unfair customer experience was found to be deleted. read more

This location employs some of the nicest workers I have ever encountered. If they are very busy, they attempt to open another teller. They take their time with you when needed, are personable & helpful. I really like the staff in charge of the visa department but I suggest they have another person fully trained to cover for the main woman when she is on vacation. Some time ago, I had a visa issue which needed dealing with ASAP, but because she was unavailable, I could not do so. Because of this delay, I missed the date for re-cooping approx $3,000.00 from an entity that owed me the money (long story). If someone else would have been there, trained to fill out paperwork, fix my transaction, etc... I would have recouped the money; however, because no one could do this work, I was stuck. I tried, it was not my fault, but I was still unable to fix the situation to my benefit since no one was capable of doing the work by a certain date. This is really my only complaint. read more

This is THE place to bank at in Ottawa. . . as a member of the credit union you're treated exceptionally well---over the years I've had accounts in other towns, in other banks, etc., and there is simply NO place that has been as good as Financial Plus. The place has the area's most up-to-date technology; the staff is smart and helpful. It's not a bank. It's BETTER than a bank! :) read more

History

Established in 1951.

Financial Plus Credit Union was founded in May of 1951 by Charles Munks, President of Local Union 19, Federation of Glass, Ceramic, and Steel Workers of North America. The Credit Union originally served union employees of Libbey Owens Ford Glass Company and was named Glass Workers Credit Union. It operated in a small area in the Local 19 office building. Over the years, the charter was changed to a community charter, and Glass Workers Credit Union was renamed Financial Plus Credit Union in 1988. Today, Financial Plus is over a $150 million dollar financial institution with three offices and over 19,000 members.

Because every time I go in that branch...and I mean EVERY SINGLE TIME...everyone is kind and cordial and they know me by my first name. I do my business banking there as well and the personal bankers ALWAYS go out of their way to assist me with bank wires and other transactions and have every ready for me exceptionally fast. My review is for FNBO in general and for experiences both at various branches and with the call…read morecenter. FNBO offers excellent products. Their credit cards have low interest rate and no balance transfer fees. Their Free Checking does not charge ATM fees when you use another banks ATM and is part of the Allpoint Network. They have ACH transfers on their online banking so you can pay a person directly to their bank account without forcing them to use an App such as Zelle, Paypal or Venmo. And they make the first $100 from mobile deposits available immediately. Their online only division, FNBO Direct pays very high savings account rates. Now the negatives. FNBO takes pride in being the largest privately family owned bank in the US. You should not be fooled when a business claims it is small or family owned, they can still provide you will poor service and treat you just like a number. In my case, on numerous occasions I have not found call center and branch reps to be very knowledgeable, nor do they necessarily value your longevity as a customer with them. In my experience, this bank generally fails to inform you of any expectations or policies that they may have that can affect you. When I made a large deposit to my account, they didn't just put a hold on the deposit, they froze ALL of my FNBO accounts for almost two weeks without telling me. When I reported my credit card stolen they CONTINUED to pay automatic payments with my new account number claiming this was the norm, my other banks didn't do that. They closed a small credit card with a $500 limit that I cosigned for my son who has had bad credit his entire adult life. My son had that card 17 years without a single late or missed payment. They waited 17 years to cancel the card? I have great credit and another FNBO card with a much higher limit. This is how they treat a customer of 17 years! And most cases when you call a branch, they don't help you. I called two Illinois branches to see if their ATM's accepted deposits because on the ATM locator, they weren't listed as accepting deposits. The people at the branches didn't even know if their own ATM's accept deposits. And they would transfer me to the call center where the reps were confused as to why my call was even transferred there.

I stopped by to get information and possibly buy flood insurance, but I encountered a person with no manners and who was extremely disrespectful, to the point that she never offered us a seat. It is shameful to still have people who think that skin color or appearance makes a person better. This happens when a company is only interested in profits, and reporting bad service is not their priority.

My story nearly echoes the same things others state on the BBB website. They wanted all banking, income and debt info but were never in the office to receive it. Every time I went there, I would have to send an email asking when someone would be in and the reply was ALWAYS "what time can you come in tomorrow"? Never same day. Was told to bring in contract Friday, got there at 2PM (because previously told they take lunch from noon-1:30), nobody there, emailed Matt, received reply it's a holiday weekend (Memorial Day) and they will be back Tuesday. Then it took weeks for a "pre-approval" and they ran our credit every which way. They never answered calls, questions were just general answers you can find on the internet, we were always put on the back burner, finally said they had all the info needed but I had to give them $600 before they could sent it to underwriting. I had already paid with a money order two weeks earlier but then got a call from their processor stating they never received it. That got straightened out when the processor called me. She told me it was now between her and the underwriter so I told her I had been in a nightmare dealing with the unprofessionalism of the Morris location and she told me I was done dealing with Matt Mallon and she would let the RM above him know of my complaints. I told her I didn't want my complaint to jeopardize our loan. I was told we "are very well qualified". A RM never called me but BOOM, next morning the appraiser calls to tell me the appraisal has been canceled by Matt. I call the processor and she sends a text 18hours later saying that there is a problem with an old student loan on my husband. I get an email from Matt simply stating that "it didn't work out" and they will send $450 back to me in "a few weeks". I was SHOCKED! This is over a 4k loan that I can pay off by snapping my fingers; it's literally nothing in the scheme of buying a house. So Matt says he's sending it back to underwriting and I'll hear back in 5 days. I get an email 5 days later saying " attached you will find your denial. This action has been taken at the direction of your Loan Officer, who submitted a request to deny your loan file." The attachment then says "Reason for Denial- Insufficient Income". So is that the income that he had proof of a month earlier while they wasted our time and took our money? Is that the income they had when they said there was a problem with an old student loan? Is that the income they had when they said we were "well qualified" for the loan? The first email said it all. The Loan Officer requested for the loan to be denied. Not because of our income, but out of retaliation. Do not do business with this company. EVER.
