Damn, I came here to write about my experience and saw that others differ. My daughter is a tenant at one of the Brookline apts and she has had a great experience. Other then packages getting stolen there are no real complaints. For her first apt she is loving it, the location, her experience. The few issues she had was addressed by management immediately. Move in was easy and she has had no issues at all and she has been there 6 months. The comments I read here is not a reflection of her experience. From my understanding this Company has a few properties and with that many tenants somethings are bound to go wrong or missed. I moved into 1810 Commonwealth Ave in Sept 2025. Immediately found: Rust-stained bathtub Gaps in the floor Trash odor in kitchen Black stains on pipes and windows Unauthorized entry Boston ISD inspected on 9/8/25 and failed the unit. Violations included: Smoke detector not working (life-threatening with gas stove present) Radiator chipped/rusted Broken window frame (black, fuzzy, moldy) Rusty pipes with peeling paint Window with hole, door in poor condition Broken, yellow-stained folding door Management lied on forms, entered my home without permission, filmed my things, and dismissed my concerns. I have never encountered such an unprofessional, negligent, and downright disrespectful property management company. Fineberg Management is a disgrace. The apartments are filthy, the facilities are falling apart, and every attempt to raise concerns is blatantly ignored. Diane, in particular, is incredibly dismissive and unresponsive -- it's nearly impossible to get a straight answer or even basic acknowledgment from her. There are rats and mice running through the building and courtyard, trash piled up everywhere, and a laundry room that looks like it hasn't been cleaned in months. It is disgusting. The conditions are unacceptable, and the lack of accountability is even worse. Do not rent from Fineberg. I would give this place a 0/10 if I could. Living here has been a nightmare, and I would never, under any circumstances, choose to live in a Fineberg property again. The apartment is really nice: high ceilings, spacious pretty much, the oven, stove is almost new. The laundry room is not bad. A nice apartment in a not too bad Fineberg building. But I never see the same person in the building. The people there, I won't call them tenants, are always different people. There are some odd people except us. Both maintenance and management are odd too. But in the apartment it's pretty good. read more

After a month that we reported the issues, the room was still not in a good shape: cracked and bubbling floor, clogged and peeling bathtubs, filthy kitchen, there are old grease stains in the oven, on the surface of the refrigerator, cabinets and floor. cockroaches were running around in the kitchen... If you are not a fun of an unhygienic and shabby apartment, stay away from this company! Although the previous reviewers have worse stories to tell than I do, I still wish for Fineberg to maintain their stellar straight-1-star review record mainly because their staff is rude and their apartments are all overpriced. I've had to talk to Gina on several occasions, generally nothing too serious (a check mix-up which was cleared up quickly and an inquiry for terminating our lease 1 month early because I don't want overlap with our next place), but every time she's constantly interrupting me and saying things like "I know, it's the same old story, everyone wants out early." I have this to say to you Gina. Maybe you're overworked because Fineberg's too cheap to hire enough people to staff their office, but that's still not my problem. That's yours. I'll take my business elsewhere because I just don't give a damn and I prefer to be treated with the same respect I show other people. As far as the apartment quality, my building also suffers from uncontrollable heat in the winter (though not as bad as others describe), the same charming plastic flooring in the kitchen I read about in another review, the same National Grid bill ambiguity which resulted in a notice from them warning they'd shut down my service if I didn't pay my 6 month late bill (?), and radio silence when I sent a maintenance request using the online form because I smelled gas in the apartment whenever the oven was turned on. I'm sure you guys don't want your building blowing up right? Or not? I haven't had pest problems and they've sent in exterminators regularly (although we had roaches for a few weeks when we first moved in, haven't seen them since in 2 years). This is one of the few things they've done well. Also, they do a nice job shoveling the snow and salting the steps. At the end of the day, though, they really don't care about your needs or your living experience at all. It's all about the bottom line. Our bathroom has tiles falling off the tub, someone sprayed expanding foam in all manners of cracks in the place and it's both unsightly and a show of poor workmanship (what were they doing anyway?), our door locks don't work well, some of the storm windows actually fall out of the windowsill if you open them (luckily they fall inwards, not outwards, I got hit on the head once), and I can go on and on about the painting and plastering they do and don't do. If you deal with an individual landlord who cares about the properties they own, they would be appalled at the shape fineberg apartments are in when they are turned over to new tenants. No self-respecting landlord would let their properties look like this. My DIY only went so far to make this place feel reasonably nice. It's not my job anyway. Rude property managers, the buildings & apartments are never cleaned as one person moves out and other moves in. I'm in a fenway property. There was a giant chunk of ice in my freezer when I move in. Yes the fridges are soo old they're not autofreeze. The whole building kinda smells like dead rats. I can't wait to move out! 12 more days! read more

I agree with everyone. This is the WORST management company that I have EVER rented from. The nasty ladies at Fineberg treat their tenants like PESTS to be chased away. Even if you just have an innocent question to ask, they immediately treat you as if you are at fault. For example, my boyfriend called them to inform them that we are breaking our lease early. He had a half an hour conversation with someone named Gina or Jaina. We promptly gave written notice and received written notice in return. About one week later, our new landlord called Fineberg and talked to the same lady, Gina, who claimed that she NEVER received any written or oral notice from us about breaking the lease. She refused to admit that until my boyfriend produced evidence, i.e. the signed written response from Fineberg itself. Stupid Gina was finally silenced. Gina, Sandy, and other Fineberg ladies are either 1. stupid or 2. incompetent or 3. senile or 4. malicious or 5. all of the above. We ended up having our new landlord call our ex-landlords in CA to give us recommendations, even though we have always been prompt with our rent to Fineberg. The only positive thing that Fineberg does is basic repair and maintenance within the apartment units. I suspect that they only do it because landlords have an obligation to maintain the premises in habitable condition. read more

I have been living at a building managed by the Fineberg Companies at 116 Washington Street and will be leaving in September. I call several times each month for repairs and rodent extermination only to receive lack luster responses and sub par effort. The repair work (if it's ever done) quickly degrades or breaks. This includes missing tiles in our bathroom, broken toilet seats, leaks in our ceiling, etc. The building is infested with mice, rats, cockroaches and other rodents and bugs. When I submit a request for a proper solution, The Fineberg Company provides me with a sticky pad which the mice get stuck to, die, and begin to rot in my apartment. I can't imagine how many other people have to deal with this. The building at 116 Washington Street is unclean at best, and The Fineberg Companies do not seem to make much of an effort to resolve it. I have seen their "cleaning crew" mopping with muddy water in the halls and the trash builds up in the hallways weekly. There is also pet excrement in the stairwell, solidifying an awful gutter/garbage stench throughout the entire building. The elevator is a death trap, I have often seen elderly couples who cannot use the stairs almost break limbs trying to open and close the out of date mechanisms on the elevators. I live in fear, in fear of contracting unwanted sicknesses such as Hepatitis or the Ebola Virus, among other things. This is not how a human being should live. read more

How do you know you're walking into a Fineberg establishment? First thing to do is to check their list of currently owned buildings: http://www.finebergcompanies.com/default.aspx?matrix=2 Second, and especially if a realtor is showing you around a bunch of places that day, avoid any building that has a visible bright red laminated sign in the entrance foyer saying that roof access is grounds for eviction. -- All fineberg buildings have this red sign. The reviews here on Yelp for Fineberg apartments are pretty funny, I've gotten a few laughs myself over how you'd think this kind of service just isn't possible from a company -- but oh, it is. I've read through them all, and I'm laughing (followed by very sad and concerned) that every single complaint you've read here is true. Don't take what you're reading about Fineberg lightly. If you disregard these reviews and get an apartment, mark my words -- you WILL think back to this very review and think to yourself "You know? I really should've listened to that guy on yelp." Where do I even begin with my two years here at Mt. Hood Road in Brighton? I suppose I could start with move in. I, too, was suckered into this place because we were late in the game in apartment hunting. It was our best choice, and based from a short realtor showing, it more than fine for our needs -- it's not like we had time to inspect anything in detail. So, it's true -- no one will come by to clean the apartment at move in. We had to clean everything ourselves. A painting crew did come by to paint the apartment, but they did 2 weeks after we moved in. Maintenance people will show up at the apartment unannounced and do god knows what at any given time, sometimes just to use your apartment as a short-cut to get to the back of the building. Don't be surprised if they accidentally cut your power when working on an adjacent unit. We didn't notice at the initial showing, but the walls in this apartment are completely appalling. When this building was first erected, the rooms had wallpaper. When fineberg bought the building, it seems like they didn't want to spend the time to remove the wallpaper so they painted right over it. 42 coats of paint later, year after year, the wallpaper and adhesive has disolved, causing the paint to crack absolutely everywhere and form gigantic soft spots (air bubbles) behind. There are some parts of the apartment where the paint on the walls is sagging, melting down over itself like a Dali painting. The floors also look like they've been used for ice hockey practice -- without any ice. We as well had only one outlet per room in our apartment, and they're all the old 60's style 2-prong type. No grounding in this place, no sir! Our bathroom had no plug at all -- forcing us to run a heavy-duty extension cord out the window of an adjacent bedroom. What's worse, the wiring in the apartment is so old, we only had 15 amps of power TOTAL to the whole apartment -- a 3 bedroom apartment -- 15 amps. If you want to use a vacuum cleaner, you're gonna have to turn off everything else first, guaranteed. Absolutely forget about installing an air-conditioner, you'll blow th Then there's the kitchen. You know how some other reviewers here talk about their floors being cheap, impossible-to-clean plastic? Get this -- not only are our floor plastic, but all of our cabinets and drawers are too. Plastic! Plastic that was molded and painted to look like wood. It's one of those details we didn't notice in the initial showing. When we found out that the kitchen was completely made out of plastic, that's when we felt duped. You pull out a drawer, and it screeches from the cheap plastic rubbing against cheap plastic. Step2 could have done a better job making this kitchen. Over my two years here, we've had over 100 mouse sightings, countless more house-centipede sightings, and more than a couple humungous spider sightings. Since fineberg never did a thing about the mouse problem, we were forced to take matters into our own hands with live traps. (Sorry, I can't deal with glue/snap traps.) With just one trap, I caught 7 mice -- and that was still not enough to get all of them. To this day, mice are still an issue, leaving collections of poo absolutely everywhere, especially in our stove and pantry. Even our bedrooms! Why?! To this day, they still have not replaced the shattered (yes shattered) window pane, and windows with broken vertical-release locks in our living room that we informed them about at move in. They still have not sealed the 4+ holes in the walls and floor in which vermin enter. After I leave this forsaken place, they will likely not remodel it for the next poor sap either. I could go on and on -- really, there's THAT much to say. But, it seems I'm limited to a 5000 character limit... So I'll leave it to this: Just Say No to Fineberg. If you value your sanity and health, steer clear of any Fineberg managed buildings. Other reviews have summed up the majority of their incompetencies very well so I'll skip over the bulk of my complaints of the last 9 months. Most recently and most concerning, their apartments are so poorly maintained they are literally falling apart. The worst is that the wood on doors and door frames is ready to break at any moment. I bent over reaching into my closet, bumped (not smacked, not careened into, just the force of bending over) the door with my hip and it SHATTERED, sending shards of wood into my side. I had a 1/2 inch sliver of wood embedded into my skin. EXTREMELY PAINFUL and was a huge ordeal to remove. I called the next business day to ask how they intended to remedy the condition of this crap apartment and I was told that nothing could be done because I hadn't called 6 months ago to file a complaint. So it's my fault for not anticipating this, apparently. With their track record and for all the regard they have for the tenants, I would love to know what they would have done if I had called in a time frame they deemed appropriate. Probably nothing. I initially gave 1star which deserved that rating. I've been living here for 1.5 year by now and I noticed multiple improvements. The lobby was updated with new mailboxes, carpets, and wall paint. It feels brighter and cleaner. Trash thrown by thoughtless residents has been cleaned up quickly. I haven't had any mail theft issue since last year. Also there's maintenance request page on Fineburg Mgmt website if you need anything getting fixed or something. (Plus is that I don't need to deal with rude employees there. Are they still there?) Response to the requests through webpage has been very prompt. So I've seen positive changes so I'm changing my rating. I haven't dealt with their employees there yet, though. Worst management ever; extremely, extremely rude staff, horrible building conditions, and extremely high prices for a surprisingly shitty building. AVOID AT ALL COST. They are the worst and most unprofessional management company in Boston, and no human being deserves to live in an apartment managed by them. The apartments are infested with cockroaches and mice. The day I moved in, there were numerous holes in the wall. There is no soundproof at all; it is so loud you cannot sleep at night. Both the maintenance and management can't do their jobs and are not cooperative or reasonable. They charge you a lockout fee when they did not leave you with the new keys after they changed the locks, and I have had my packages gone missing a few times due to bad security. It's very clear they don't care about their tenants, and if you have a problem, good luck because they're not going to do anything to help you. Just live somewhere else. read more

DO NOT LIVE HERE IF YOU CARE FOR YOUR HEALTH. ESPECIALLY international students. If there was an option of giving zero stars I would have done that. It's the worst management I have ever seen. They are rude and insensitive. There are bedbugs cockroaches horrible contractors that don't turn up even after complaining. They will never issue notices for water cuts, but will immediately act on notices with rent increase,laundry bills being updated, emptying the basement of the private vehicles. Money is not the only thing you need to pay at the month's end. You need to pay a lot of patience and a bit of your health every month if you plan to stay. Especially for international students who are battling a lot in their lives this management would only make is worse. read more

We lived in a Fineberg apartment for four and a half years. And while any and all maintenance requests were handled promptly, they outright refused to notify us that they were on their way or that it would be fixed and that the only indication that they had been in the apartments was a corrected issue and them leaving the lights on. They refused to confirm that a maintenance person had even been in our apartment until my wife said she was calling the cops because our lights were on and no one was home. This was just how they did business and I took that with a grain of salt. But in January this year, we notified them we were moving out and they listed our apartment. A realtor called, they came when they said they would, and they took photos. The next day, when looking for the listing, my wife found photos of our apartment with green leaves on the trees, no crib or pack and play for our 5 month old, and our cat who had been dead for 13 months sitting happily on the couch. They let different realtors in without our knowledge or consent to take photos of an apartment when we had already renewed our lease for the year. I echo the sentiment to avoid them if you value your sanity and peace of mind, as they will not care about either. Update: after sending our early termination fee in with our keys, they had not cashed the check after over a month. If I could give negative stars I would. This is my first management company I had ever dealt with and they pretty much ruined my trust in people. Where to begin..... Bed bug infestation at 1800 comm. ave. Their entire building is infested to the point where I had talked to a kid who had to go to the doctors because he was technically being eaten alive at night by bed bugs. I lucked out and my bed was brand new and luckily they did not like the material, thank god! Also the building is kept at a searing 100 degrees or more, we would keep every single window open in the place and still be sweating just watching TV on the couch. The elevator was 5 months past inspection when we moved out, and sounded like it was going to plummet. Dealing with Fineberg on the phone was one of the most painful and anger inducing experiences of my life. I had some old hag telling me that the bed bugs were our fault and we were just rented an empty apt and they must have came in on our furniture, which was all BRAND NEW, so impossible. What that old bag didn't bother to look up is that bed bugs nest in hardwood such as finebergs crap building. I had looked at another apt to rent before settling for that place and had kicked the wall cause the paint was falling off and heard a rat that must have been bigger then a cat scurry in the walls! If I had known what I know now when I was renting out that place I would have rather of lived in a teepee on boston commons. STAY AWAY FROM FINEBERG BUILDINGS!!!!!!!! Gina lies, lies, lies something awful. Like telling you she'll all the problems in the apt so you'll stay another year and then after you sign the lease going 'oops, those things aren't our problem'. I should have seen that coming. Or after being told by your realtor that gas is included and not paying for gas for the first year of the lease suddenyl 2 months into year tow she's signed you up for gas (in your name) without telling you and denies it because it's very much against the law. There are no cable outlets in the apt, you literally have to run the wire over pipes and doors (yes, pipes, exposed pipes heat the apt if you can call it heat). The bathroom is so old there is no caulk around the tub and the paint is just regular paint, so it peels constantly. The kitchen appliances are quite possibly older than I am and the kitchen isn't ventilated at all. We stayed because the rent was cheap, but apparently this year they got greedy and for a basement split they tried getting $1350. We said no way and everyone else did too until they dropped the rent $300 a month before move-in date. I feel bad for the poor sucker thinking they got a deal. I've now learned, don't be lazy and move the hell out of the crappy place- it'll be worth it. read more

They don't respond to requests for repairs (everything you request isn't "urgent" enough) so you have to harass them, they don't bother to put your proper contact information down (they didn't use the phone number I gave them for my contact info, so realtors call some other number and leave a message saying they're coming) when realtors want to show your apartment (so you have people randomly coming to you apartment asking to come in and JUST ENTERING if you're not home, which is ILLEGAL) and DON'T FIX IT when you call multiple times in a rage and say that realtors must actually speak to you to gain entry to your residence (which they don' t do), our fridge was brand new when we moved in and had to be replaced after 6 months because it's so cheap, our stove is the cheapest POS ever, they put up fake walls to cover the hideous walls from before as opposed to actually fixing them (you can hear plaster fall between the real and fake walls if you hammer something in), the maintenance guys, who are actually nice, told me that they're "not allowed" to retile bathrooms anymore so they have to put RUBBER over places where tiles have broken/fallen out, they refuse to recaulk rotten caulk in bathrooms, you have to clean the place yourself when you move in because they don't actually hire professional cleaners like it says they do in your lease, you have no control over the heat so in the winter your apartment is 90+ degrees when it's 10 degrees outside, so you have to RUN A FAN IN THE WINDOW to cool the apartment down in the middle of winter, the floor they put in my kitchen is so cheap that it cannot be cleaned (it's plastic... literally plastic... and normal foot traffic stains it permanently) and will probably have to be replaced for new tenants, they scratched the crap out of my floor when moving my original fridge in (after they had refinished the floors and put in the cheapo kitchen tiles), and when I called they told me "Well there's no security deposit you don't have to pay for it"... THAT'S NOT THE POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they said no undergrad students live in the building but I'm 90% sure they're admitting them now (probably because the apartments have gotten so crappy that nobody else would live there), it took 3 weeks to replace a broken screen, I've complained about broken windows for about 10 months straight now... The worst part is, it's a giant corporation so there's nobody to complain to. If you call the maintenance line, nice old ladies answer your angry calls and get offended that you're so angry. They're just a call center, they have no responsibility or reason to care about your issues. I've had them hang up on me several times because they thought "I was being rude". I'M the rude one!?!? Your company is a POS!!! I can just imagine the realtors after they've rented out a fineberg apartment.. they probably are thinking "Ohhhh!!! I Fineberg'd you!!!" and celebrate their selling of a craphole. So for the love of god, don't get Fineberg'd. It's easily the worst living situation I've ever had to deal with, and they charge you the same (or more) as what you can get from a real management company or landlord. They tried to raise my rent by $70 too. They don't give a crap about their tenants, they'll use you for a year, take your money, then let some other poor schmuck get ripped off. We're just dollar signs to them. OH MAN! I forgot about the best part!!! The day I was to move in, I DIDN'T HAVE A WORKING TOILET. It wouldn't flush. I called in a rage, threatening to withold rent/sue... and they said they'd get to it after the weekend (it was a saturday!). They wanted me to go two full days without a toilet!!! That's ILLEGAL!!! Also when I moved in, the lights weren't wired properly but I didn't know that because THERE WERE NO LIGHTBULBS. They had to get an electrician to come in. God, it sounds like I'm making all this up. One star doesn't begin describe Fineberg Companies. They are one of the most unhelpful, disrespectful, and low-life companies I have ever been in contact with. If you call the company about any problem, don't expect help for months. I moved in June, 2014. The day I moved in, my apartment was filthy when I had written documentation from my realtor and management company that the apartment would be repainted and professionally cleaned before I showed up for my 1pm move-in time. It was not clean so when I was receiving deliveries, beds and furniture were being delivered into a filthy apartment. Also, the day I moved into my apartment went to the laundry room and only 2/4 washers and 3/4 dryers were working. I have since been calling about this issue 2 to 3 times a month to Fineberg as well as the laundry company, it is now almost December, and the machines are still broken. If one has been fixed, another breaks down. Come, July my roommate and I start seeing mice. It took about two months of phone calls to finally end the issue. We had holes in the wall in our kitchen and they were climbing in on the gas pipes. Initially they stuffed the hole with steel wool which the mice quickly maneuvered around. My roommate and I continued to cover the whole with duct tape which they ate through almost every night. Finally they sprayed insulation and plastered over the hole to finally fix the problem. It is now late November and we are dealing with a large bed bug infestation in my bedroom. For months I had been suffering from what looked like hives and small bites. I went to the doctor 3 times concerning the issue and they consistently told me they were due to stress. My roommate, boyfriend, and I consistently checked for bugs on my mattress and could never find anything, until this past weekend we thought to check the curtain hanging behind my bed. We found hundreds of bugs on the back side of my curtain. We quickly quarantined the curtains. When we called the company they said they would contact the pest control and I asked that they would call me so I could set up a time. They said it would happen shortly. About 3 hours later I hadn't heard from them so I called the company back and later on heard from the pest control company. (Which by the way is Absolut Pest control, also with an extremely low rating on Yelp.) When the pest control showed up in the afternoon after bagging every piece of clothing I own, they informed me that they have been treating the building for a while and have recently treated almost 5 units in the building. 5 UNITS. When I questioned the pest control specialist about things I had read online about the bugs and infestation problems he kept telling me to not believe everything I read on the internet. Because I'm sure the government-endoresed site I was reading was feeding me false information...as if. I was also told that the company was not legally obligated to inform me of the infestation when I moved in. They are only obligated to inform the tenant if they ask. They continued to try and blame the problem on me that there was a slight chance I had brought it into the apartment via clothing, suitcases, etc. Very unlikely also considering every piece of furniture in my room including bedding and storage were brand new when I moved in. Including the bug infester curtains. I am now sitting with my roommate in a restaurant as I am kicked out of my apartment for treatment, leaving everything I own in the hands of a company who has consistently screwed me over. If I can offer any advice, I would say to NEVER NEVER NEVER live in a Fineberg property. EVER. And if you currently do, REPORT EVERY PEST ISSUE. This is the worst management company in existence. These people are hateful, lazy, uncaring, and truly deserve fates worse than death for all their incredibly illegal activity. If I had a genie, one of my three wishes would be for all of the Fineberg employees to be slowly lowered into an active volcano. Their apartments are well below any modern regulations. For example, my apartment has one power outlet. In the entire apartment. It is also a two pronged outlet, which adds to the incredible inconvenience and fire hazard. I have to run kitchen appliances all the way to my main living area if I want to use them. Speaking of electrical problems, their breakers were all built in the 1950s. No joke. You absolutely cannot run more than two electrical appliances at once. I have to unplug the fridge any time I want to use my computer. Forget about having an air conditioner in the summer. The buildings are some of the filthiest I have ever seen. There are no words for how disgusting it all is. The laundry room no longer has a ceiling due to water damage, constant flooding, and pest issues. Not to mention it's full of roaches and rats. If you call them to complain, they WILL hang up on you. They will do everything in their power to not do their jobs. The fact that this company has UNANIMOUS 1-star reviews says something. Be wise and do not rent from them. I make sure to put up signs in my apartment for prospective renters of how horrible it is here. When realtors come, I tell the students with them not to stay here. I'm going to agree with Travis D. here and say that if Yelp had a negative star system- Fineberg would find themselves there. I have lived in a Fineberg owned/operated building for about 8 months now and it has been nothing short of a nightmare. Where do I even begin?! Moving in: AFTER you sign the lease (and pay the non refundable first and last), they get you to sign a waiver stating that you're moving into an apartment that IS NOT going to be cleaned after the people before you move out. Basically, my roommates and I showed up to a filthy apartment and no where to store our stuff so we were forced to scrub the filth off the walls while moving in. Thanks for scamming us on that one! Of course it doesn't end there. The tile in our kitchen and bathroom is literally crumbling. It is impossible to keep the floors neat and clean. The deteriorating tile has also grown mold that bleaching doesn't cure. I'm sure that's really healthy to be breathing that in. We didn't have hot water for almost a month and it is still quite sporadic. I called at least twice a week and nothing was being solved. They would claim to send someone out to look at my place. Needless to say no one ever showed up. Hey wait, isn't hot water included in my rent?! Yea, it is. This goes along with outdated electrical outlets, a leaking sink (we can't use the storage under the sink), cracking walls and ceilings, NO fire alarm, moldy radiators, inadequate heating systems- basically a place that is falling apart. Oh, they will also send you nasty letters once you move in telling you what you can and cannot do in your building (all of which are not specified in your lease agreement.) STAY AWAY! When you're looking at places in the Boston area to live- be SURE to ask if it's managed or owned by Fineberg!!!! If so, spare yourself the grief (and the overpriced tag) and look somewhere else! After reading all of these reviews, I must say the "popular vote" is Fineberg management SUCKS and I most definitely AGREE with that! This has been the worse, most unprofessional, rude, lazy and UNCARING management of ALL TIME! They do not care what you need, they do what THEY want. Even while paying them rent to live in the apartment, they have no motivation to want to fix their tenants problems. I've been having inconsistent heat in my apartment for the last couple of months and sometimes just no heat at all (IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WINTER)! I called them MANY times about this issue and they always just give BS excuse or say they will "come by to fix the problem the next day" which is a lie because I dont see them again until I call and complain again! Whatever you do, DO NOT RENT ANY APARTMENT WITH THIS MANAGEMENT. Rent is cheap but they will never cater to your needs, they will be RUDE if you call them about an emergency issue in your apartment and they will most likely NEVER FIX THE REAL PROBLEM. Completely awful. I tell people that I pay luxury prices for section 8 housing. A million problems from day one. Unwilling to fix household problems, an elevator that is constantly broken, common areas that are perpetually dirty, overpriced laundry services, ROACHES. SO MANY ROACHES... and I am not a dirty girl. Don't turn on your microwave and have the kitchen light on... kills the power. I regret the day that I moved in. One of the worst companies ever. I wonder where to complain. I tried BBB but they do not deal with landlords. The apartments are OK. My biggest and most serious complaint is that people randomly enter your apartment for maintenance or for showing the apartment to someone else. The management leaves the new apartment leasing to realtors who are very rude for the most part and call 10 minutes before entering the apartment. So if you are in the middle of some intimate moments and fail to answer the call, you have someone at the door steps to show the apartment. Worse still if you don't open the door, they have keys that they can use to enter. This is THE WORST PART of living here. My 2 yrs of relatively smooth living has completely shadowed by these past 5 months when we had a stranger visiting the house almost every other day. Please please stay away from these people. I would like to file an official complaint against this management but don't know where to. May be consumer affairs. Yeah and Diane, you are rude and unhelpful. This will be my first Yelp review since I typically don't like to bash companies as I know how some experiences can just be a one off type of thing. I haven't even moved into my apartment and already I am frustrated by the lack of organization, rudeness of the staff, and overall difficult time I've had moving into one of their units. Every single person from every department is rude and unhelpful, especially in parking. There is a complete lack of organization or structure to this management company. I've tried to get a parking permit, which I'm paying an outrageous $175/month for on top of extremely high rent for a 2 bedroom, and am treated like an enemy to the company. I would not recommend signing a lease with this management company. My experience has been nothing but painful and frustrating so far, and I regret paying these people an astronomical amount of money to be treated like dirt. I have never posted such a negative review before but I just called Fineberg and they really got on my nerves. If only Yelp would allow me to give negative ratings, I definitely would. The people who work in the management office are so rude and unhelpful. I lost three packages last week and called Fineberg this morning asking whether they can do anything about it. Their replies were nonchalant and they were unwilling to help. Is it so hard to post a notice stating that packages not for you should just be left there untouched? Last year, a lot of packages were stolen and everyone in the apartment was posting signs everywhere asking Fineberg, even calling them directly, to at least tighten security (albeit without a concierge) so that our packages would remain safe. But did they do anything about it? NO. The lady that I encountered on the phone today was impudent and when I told her my problem, the response she gave me was "People who steal are going to steal anyway, there's nothing we can do about it." Her response left me in dismay and her bored tone made my blood boil. Stolen packages are the least of my worries as well. The laundromat was a nightmare as the washers and dryers were constantly out of order and everyone in the apartment was complaining about it for a year before they finally fixed it. Honestly, if you value your sanity and health, stay away! Their management is incompetent, rude and just plain useless. Get yourself an apartment someone where else for the same price you might get here! I know the company couldn't care less about the reviews posted online, and bashing them here wouldn't do me any good, nevertheless, I hope it serves as a warning for prospective renters. read more

There is no end to the horror that is Fineberg Companies. It would seem all the yelpers before me had said it all, but no..here is just a brief overview of my experience with Fineberg during a one year lease of a two bedroom apartment on Washington street in Brighton: 1. Move-in Day: as if Sept. 1 isn't bad enough, the apartment is visibly dirty, maintenance requests were not honored after repeated promises were made, and the shower did not work. I'm hot, I'm sweaty, I've been hauling boxes and furniture all day, and not a drop of water will come out of my shower. Took fineberg two days to fix it. 2. Remember those maintenance requests? We repeatedly called Fineberg (gotta love Gina, she's a real gem) only to receive rude responses and empty promises. Light fixtures were missing, cabinets were falling off, windows and ceilings leaking, doors that had been taken off the hinges were never put back on, the toilet ran constantly and the shower was growing mold in numerous places. Maintenance would show up occasionally, unannounced at 7:30am: a very large older man with extremely limited English skills simply let himself in while I was alone, sleeping in my bed. That's not just negligent, it's scary. And when maintenance does show up, the Fineberg solution for everything is simply...paint. That leak? The guys came moved all my living room furniture, left saying they would be back after lunch, and then showed up three days later to paint the windows. Problem solved! Yeah. I've reported them to the Boston housing authority, as there are many violations of Boston code in this unit alone, not to mention other units in my building that I have seen or heard of. 3. I mentioned Gina, who seems to be in charge of billing or the like. She left my sister and I repeated, threatening, rude messages regarding rent that had been paid weeks before, or simply to badger us into re-signing our lease. But it's not just Gina, it's the company as a whole: what Fineberg offers can not be called service, it's a general, blatent disregard for common decency among human beings. 4. Full disclosure: this place was my first apartment, and I was utterly duped. We pay 1600/month for this sh*thole, after being told repeatedly by realtors (scum of the earth, that lot) this is the best we'd find for our price range. And they're raising the rent on the next poor tenants that move in here. Please, please don't listen to that nonsense! There are nice places in boston, for reasonable prices, you just have to be willing to spend some time and frustration wading through the crap out there. After experiencing all this first hand, I can say this with confidence: it's companies like Fineberg that are what's wrong with the American economy. Large corporations that don't give a sh*t about people, and are just in it to milk poor schmucks for all they're worth and then some. The best advice I can give to prospective tenants, anyone about to make a major commitment like signing a lease, is to inform yourself! Be relentless with questions regarding your tenancy and the nature of the company you are renting from a maybe that way you won't get stuck in something like the situation I have described. read more

Absolutely awful. Every part of living in a building managed by Fineberg is a nightmare. The apartment was not cleaned or fixed up at all before we moved in. My apartment is like a free for all with men of all sorts coming in and out as they please without any warning or scheduling in advance, only a knock on the door and the expectation that they can enter whenever (this is like at least once a week). The building (99 brainerd) is disgusting--old everything--holes in the walls, disgusting old floors, office type ceilings. An actual trash pit. It's robbery to be paying for this apartment. Had the same problem with the kitchen sink six separate times and it was "fixed" only to have the same issue again a week later. The plumber literally admitted to using short term fixes and not actually tackling the real problem. The real problem never got fixed. One day I got home and my keys wouldn't open the door, the person on the emergency line was by far the most inconsiderate, unprofessional person I've ever spoken to basically telling me that I was stupid and didn't know how to use keys. Then audibly groaned while saying he'd be there in AN HOUR while I'm locked out of my apartment, have important time-sensitive commitments, and my cat meowing because she's starving on the other side of the door. I lived in a Fineberg property in Fenway for 3 years. Now that I have been living in a properly managed and maintained building, I don't know how I ever put up with Fineberg's crap for that long... maybe to avoid the huge hassle of moving? It was also a very convenient location for me, and I actually did like the character and layout of my apartment. Anyway, as other reviews have stated, the list of problems you will have living in one of their buildings never ends. The elevator (which, I admit, is nice to have at all) was one of those that you had to open and close the doors yourself. The "temporary" 90-day inspection card inside was expired for over a year before it was replaced... and the thing breaks at least a few times a month. More than one person has gotten stuck in it, between floors. We would go a week or more at a time without an elevator. It wasn't a huge problem for me; I don't have trouble walking up to the fourth floor. But there were a number of older people in the building, and I imagine it gets pretty difficult for them. The laundry room in the basement (which we shared with the building next door) is a joke. For the majority of my time living there, the very old machines (3 washers and 3 dryers) broke regularly (usually once a week, if not more), would not dry clothes properly, stained clothes with some sort of oily crap, etc etc. A little while before I moved out, they replaced them all with brand new machines, but these would still break regularly, and usually there would only be one or two washers and a dryer that worked. The prices also jumped from $1.25 to $2.00... at least the crappy machines were cheap. The maintenance line you call for repairs is not much help. You either get this nice older lady (who, while she seems willing to help, never gets much of anything done for you) or this other extremely surly woman. If you need electrical work done, be prepared to wait a while; they have an outside contractor take care of that stuff, and they can never seem to tell you how long it will take... the contractor is always "running behind". I had a break-in after living there for about two years because they did not install my deadbolt lock properly - the intruder was able to pop the core out of the door. It was not attached in any way to the bolt on the inside. When I asked them to put a new core in, because whoever stole my stuff also decided to keep the core (and what if they made a copy of the key with it?) they grumbled and gave me crap about it. I guess fixing things so my apartment is secure is a ridiculous expectation... Heat and hot water are included, which is nice when they actually work. Expect to be without both more than once in the winter. You cannot control the heat in your apartment, so you will most likely need to have a window open to cool off in January. They also like to do water maintenance without warning anyone about it - maybe a month or two before moving out I woke up on a Sunday to no water at all. When I called, the woman told me they were working on the water, but couldn't tell me how long it would be. When it did start working again, the water that came out was brown... needless to say I showered at my boyfriend's apartment that day. All of the appliances in my apartment were old and barely worked. In order to use my oven, I actually had to take the knob off the front and manually turn the metal piece that sticks out. The kitchen floor was peeling up and many tiles in the bathroom were just broken. One of my windows would not stay open on its own. The toilet was ancient and was extremely difficult to flush (think leaning down on the handle because the suction inside is so strong) and then would continue to run unless you made sure the plunger lined up perfectly with the hole in the tank. I'm fairly sure they don't bother to repair or clean anything in between tenants, but then you don't have to pay a security deposit. Luckily I never had any problems with pests as other people have described in their reviews, although I have a cat so that probably helps. This was my first apartment out of college, so I had no experience in dealing with management companies or what to really look for in an apartment. I was probably paying twice for what the actual apartment was worth... but the location really brings that rent up. Glad I'm out of there! Don't get stuck with Fineberg if you can help it! read more

I 100% agree with Nick. Fineberg is the worst management company I had ever dealt with. I lived in other 3 places in the past 5 yrs. What was said by the management before I signed the lease was totally a lie. The mgmt said the place would look like new. When I moved in, nothing was done! I called the mgmt and maintenance, both were rude and unprofessional. They give me the impression that they are the god you tenants have no RIGHT. Only they can talk and you tenants just listen. I moved in for a month. My light bulbs are not even fixed. Not to mention many other things still haven't been fixed. Fineberg does not even put its name out on its property but just its number. These VERY LOW star reviews - ACCURATE. Should be ZERO stars. I've lived in their Melrose apartment building for 2.5 years, and they do AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. You are pretty much ignored, their staff - RUDE! They NEVER come by, they DO NOT want to hear from the tenants, they let the place get run down & dirty, they hire the worst cleaning & maintenance people, they don't care about the illegal parking and illegal dumping taking place on our property. I could go on and on. I have helped them out so much, such as picking up the trash in the parking lot, removing mail from the entryway, wiping down the washing machines, calling in bldg. problems, such as water leaks, etc., and instead of acknowledging my helpfulness, they raise my rent. Well, I just got THE BEST news in a long time. Fineberg was FIRED, and we now have a fantastic high-quality management company. Fineberg lost 3 properties in Melrose, and 2 properties in nearby towns - 5 total properties! I can't understand why it took the building owners so long to realize - FINEBERG IS THE WORST! read more

I'd like to make it known that as I sit and type this review, the fire alarm is blaring painfully loud and has been for almost an hour. There's no fire, we got the all clear, the alarm just won't shut off. I called maintenance and they basically told me oh well, wait til the dudes come.The only thing I can give this company credit for is their balls. Fineberg management is willing to openly abuse its tenants. I've already reported them to the city of Boston for a health code inspection, which my outrageously overpriced apartment easily fails. This is the first apartment I've had here in Boston, and my naive self didn't realize just how pwned I was by my realtor/the management. When I first moved in, the apartment was filthy and the shower straight up didn't work. No water coming out at all -- and it took them two days to come and fix it. The living room and the bathroom have significant leaks in the ceiling. When I reported these leaks the company yes-yes'd me, saying they'd send someone right away. When the living room leak completely soaked my coach it took a full day and about 10 towels before they showed up to fix it. All three of the faucets leak in the bathroom -- the shower, the sink and the tub. They've claimed to fix it twice and it comes back within a week. The toilet runs constantly and you have to open up the tank to fix it after flushing. The maintenance guy basically told me to deal with it because they weren't going to replace the whole toilet just because it's needlessly wasting water, as if we aren't in the middle of a climate crisis.The bathroom ceiling started leaking profusely in the middle of the night and completely filled the light fixtures in the bathroom full of water and soaking the floor. Thinking this may be a potential electrical hazard I called maintenance immediately and it 'only' took them an hour to send a sleepy looking old man and his very young son (maybe 13) who were here for less than five minutes. The man told me that the tenants above us had overfilled their bathtub and that was the source of the problem. I'm friendly with the girls upstairs and found out that the bathtub was running but she started it only a minute before the leak began and it was less than half full by the time my bathroom was soaked. The man assured me that the "only way to fix a leak like this is a coat of paint!" and said he'd send someone tomorrow. I asked about the lights and he said it was "totally fine" to use them despite the fact that the bulbs were surrounded by water. This was a month ago. No one ever came to fix either of our leaks. The wood underneath the heaters is moldy and literally rotting away, the heater in the living room almost has nothing to stand on any more. The walls are moldy in the bathroom and no amount of scrubbing kills it. I've never had allergies like I have in this hellhole. When we signed the lease they promised us that the huge chunks of paint falling off of the walls and ceilings would be scraped and repainted but we didn't even get a courtesy sweep before we moved in. This place hasn't been cleaned in years and it's obvious once you live here a couple days. I took it upon myself to scrub the walls in the kitchen and I went through FOUR completely blackened sponges. Fineberg literally could not care less about its tenants and it's time they be held accountable for their blatant violation of boston health codes. Don't listen to realtors who talk up the building's location or tell you you won't get a better deal because you WILL, you just have to look! Fineberg tries to lure kids looking for cheaper move in costs in by offering no security deposit and no fee, but they make up for it by grossly overcharging you in rent. I pay $1600 a month to live in a building that is actually falling apart with no laundry access, no dishwasher, no gas and no electricity. It doesn't even matter that there's an elevator because it's broken on average a week out of every month. The hot water is spotty at best, don't even bother if it's earlier in the morning. I wish I could give zero stars. I've tried my best to warn all the kids looking at the apt I'm moving out of on the first (THANK GOD) and so far it hasn't been rerented -- probably because now they want $1675 a month for it, which is hilarious. Fineberg management is not a service provider. They're abusive and taking advantage of the poor schmucks who are too new to the boston apt scene to know better. I've done my time, never again! This is a review for their building on Park Drive near Fenway. Would definitely stay away if possible. The maintenance people were ok. We had our toilet handle break a few times and they always came to fix it within a few hours, and they replaced our sink faucet one time just because it looked old. However, the kitchen is ancient and falling apart. The only counter space is a crumbling cabinet with chipping paint. It's definitely not safe to prepare food on this surface, yet when I asked if they could replace it, they told me they had over 100 kitchens to redo. The main complaint for Fineberg....ROACHES AND RATS. We were a first floor apartment and the HUGE ROACHES would come up into our apartment from the basement. These are not little guys...these things are LARGE roaches that have probably been in the building for a long, long time. They are rampant in the basement, which is fun since the laundry and TRASH is located down there. I used to bring things to throw in front of me to scare the rats away when I was forced to go into the basement. LONG story short, just avoid if you can. It's falling apart, filled with rodents and roaches, and just not worth it. Also had a big problem with people stealing packages from the mail area. read more
