The estimate was fast and fair (I had 3 competing estimates done and they were right in the middle, but offered a far better quality product than both and offered a knowledgeable staff who instilled confidence). This was my first major non-diy home improvement and so it was lovely to have a staff that could clearly explain what on my part needed to be done before breaking ground (permits and a remarking of the property lines etc) while they worked on gathering the materials and calling the various utilities to mark out where it was not safe to dig. The project lasted exactly as long as they said it would (3 days including demolition, as we had a big fence) and the workers were an amazing crew. They tried as much as possible to keep the workspace clutter to a minimum, and worked to avoid damaging the neighbor's yard (in fact you couldn't even tell they had been standing there!) They even worked around our apple trees and rose bushes without incident, something that I told them don't worry too much about since the fence was more important, so thanks guys, I was surprised how well that worked out!) He was able to deal with the awkward shifting weight and center of mass as he surgically removed round by round, all while it was still nestled in the crunched up metal roof of our carport. My husband is a woodworker, so he also likes exploring the offerings for elements to incorporate in his designs. From salvaged lumber to old cabinet hardware, there's almost no end to the creative potential! On the upper floors, it's always fun to explore the furniture and fixtures (even though we rarely have room in the car to bring anything home to Buffalo). They stock a lot more than just lumber!!! They have a great deal of tools, fixings for plumbing, electrics etc etc Which makes them a hardware store also. I find the lumber there better quality than the large chain stores, it's a lot straighter, and actually a lot of the time they are the same price. Sometimes a little higher but I live close to them so still save money when you factor the fuel costs driving down to Ithaca. They sell decent deck boards and a lot of high quality interior and exterior wood. I am very very happy with Stover and will continue to go there for most of my project supplies.
