Our last trip in was for two bikes-- one for a four year old girl and another for a two year old boy. We left with two bikes: one girly pink and the other a boyish Iowa Hawkeyes. I was helped immediately. They showed me all the options, talked size and even installed new training wheels for me before taking them to the car for me. With ample parking, a friendly staff and an ever changing inventory of used sporting and exercise equipment this place serves its purpose. Since they rely on buying used equipment to then resell, their selection fluctuates so I recommend contacting them before going in. As she ventured out of the mall in her big ass SUV, her eyes came to the Black & Gold Shop. Having never been in, honestly always driving by it assuming it was just another run of the mill Iowa Hawkeye shop-- she asked herself, should she or shouldn't she? Glancing in her rearview mirror to two kiddos turning into little gremlins right before her eyes... she decided what the hell and pulled in. A last ditch effort. Horrendously parking in the very narrow, tiny lot-- Jenni pressed onward. And grabbed each tiny human's hand as she entered. HOLY HAWKEYES. An Iowa City native, Jenni had never seen so much high quality gear in one spot. Items ranging from apparel to decor, from football to basketball or wrestling. If this store didn't have what she was looking for, nowhere did. (Except maybe Amazon? But she'd have had to plan two days in advance for that, and heaven forbid she... but we digress.) As she perused the massive, meticulously organized store she took a look at the price tags attached. They were all ohhhh so very high. But, the selection! WOW. The staff was pleasant and helpful in a non lingering type of way. AND believe it or not, the cutter was found. I went to buckle my seatbelt and caught a small piece of fabric on the buckle and the jacket ripped again. I understand misuse, but if the item rips on the rounded part of a seat belt, it seems like the material is too delicate for the price I paid. I had no problems in any other stores in the mall until I went and Torrid. They told me I needed a mask and I explain to them that the governor has lifted the mandate and I have been vaccinated. They refused to help me. Said I'd have to come back when I would wear a mask. I said well if that's the case let me just return these items while I'm here. They refused to serve me again. While I was standing there calling their customer service number another customer got within 2 feet of my face and started yelling at me calling me a f****** b****. She was screaming and turning red in the face. I felt very sure this woman was going to do harm to me. That's when I decided to start recording. Thankfully that made her back off a little bit. They assured her that they called security on ME for not wearing a mask. She was in just as much violation as me for not wearing the mask. She was in my face avoiding the 6 foot social distancing sign on the door and screaming.When I told them I felt threatened by her because she was in my face and twice my size, the employee responded to me that it's a plus size store. I was also told several times by one of the employees that they did not want my business anymore. I am a very loyal customer that shops in both of your stores in my town several times a month. Very upsetting the way I was treated yesterday. I did speak with customer service and I'm waiting on another callback from headquarters. I have a video I'd like to share of the treatment from the employees yesterday. I don't have their names because they told me they would not give it to me because I was recording. When a customer asks an employee for a name they should always be willing to give it or an ID number. Clearly she knew she was wrong. I respect people that choose to continue to wear a mask, I feel like the people that are choosing not to wear a mask but staying 6 feet away and not going out when they're ill should be respected too. It's sad to see all the retail going out of business right now and you have stores like yours that will not serve people that want to come in and spend money. Shame on you! I will be gathering up all of the clothing I thought within the return period that still have tags to return back to that store. I refuse to give my money to someone that does not respect my choice to not wear a mask as I respect the choices of the people that choose to wear a mask.
