I'd wanted to visit here for ages and had never made it - even though I'm a south sider, I don't end up in this part of Glasgow very often. I'd heard good things though, so made a booking for a Monday night and arrived excited. I was seated at a table I couldn't quite get into - the restaurant is large, but the tables are pretty close together so it's a little squishy. I can't imagine what it's like on a busy night! We went for the lazy option when ordering, the Chef's Recommendation (£26.95 for two people): salad, patatas bravas, sauteed mushrooms, sauteed chicken, lamb in white wine sauce, chicken croquettes, battered prawns and meatballs. The food arrived pretty much all at once which was great initially but it did mean some of the dishes were cold by the time we got to them! I didn't have a huge appetite and we didn't manage to finish it all so I'd definitely say it was good value for money! Stand out dishes for me was the battered prawns (although it was served with sweet chilli dip, sad times) and I also really liked the croquettes even though they were a little stodgy. I was happy with the food but my Madrid memories from the previous week were perhaps too strong of an influence as I wasn't really wowed by anything we had . The service was really warm and friendly and I felt like we were really well looked after. All up the meal was about £30 including a wine and couple of soft drinks which I think is pretty good value seeing as we couldn't even finish it all!

Like the last place that was here it's too full on with bright colours, and they seen to have concentrated more on that than the style of food that they are trying to aim for. There is a menu deal on three tapas for £4.00, but that is only served during certain hours, I chose three items at £3.95 each Calamari, chicken wings & some potato dough ball things. With all, the items that l had I would have said that they where all bought in items and not home made, maybe it's because they are still looking for a chef. With the Brazilian tunes enticing us, and the shabby south American decor I thought, why not give it a try? We were seated in a booth in the back area, which I was quite impressed with. The size of the place was unexpected. The waiter was...sweet. He couldn't handle many of our questions and kept referring to other staff members. Perhaps he was new. We ordered a selection of tapas and when our request for table bread was met with confusion we ordered bread and olives instead. The food didn't take long, which was a blessing as by this point we were starving. But we quickly realized perhaps why the food was so quick. I ordered, Brazilian cheese balls, Tempura prawns with an avocado and mango dip, plus some calamari rings with chilli mayo. The cheese balls were quite bready. They are balls of quite tough pastry and a tiny amount of cheese baked into that so the balls were empty. The tempura prawns were done in a sort of batter like you'd get on fish at a chippy, and curled up like won tons, with very little prawn inside. The Calamari rings were probably the best dish, yet even they were quite chewy. The bread! Even the bread and olives was off. The bread itself was fine, mediocre, but the olives. They only sent green ones which I was a little miffed about but could accept it. They weren't pitted! I nearly cracked a tooth on one nibbling into it. I wanted to try and have something good to eat to write about so I ordered some Churros and chocolate dip. What could go wrong? Crunchy churros that's what, crunchy churros. It wasn't okay. Overall just a really poor excuse for food. I realized after we'd ordered that it's probably aimed at students, but I still don't think that's an excuse for poor quality. They didn't end up charging us for the bread and olives, but at that point there wasn't much they could have done to soften my opinion. I've heard it's good for a drink on a night, and maybe thats so, the music was very funky. But avoid the food.

A couple doors down we saw Mexican and thought why not!?! As an American I had very low expectations, as I just couldn't fathom good Mexican in Scotland. But guess what, I was proven wrong!!! Everything was fresh, flavorful, and spicy! The queso wasn't the best but I'll give them a pass because my desert was maybe one of the best things I have eaten in my life! My dessert was horchata ice cream (that tasted like dulce de leche) and cinnamon sugar flour tortilla chips. We had a spa appt and couldn't stay, but I would have finished it all!!! The ambiance is upbeat and good Spanish music. Fairly extensive menu of street tacos, enchiladas, burritos, tostadas, starters. Good variety of tequilas and margaritas. We shared between three of us: grilled prawn tostadas, roasted cauliflower street tacos, charred corn and refried bean quesadillas, chipotle roast vegetables quesadillas. Husband also ordered shredded honey pork tacos. Everything was very flavorful. Nothing spicy though. The Union Mezcal old fashioned margarita was good with mezcal tequila although a bit too sweet. The Tommy margaritas were even sweeter. Overall a very good dinner and I would recommend.

Came by on our first night in Edinburgh with my boyfriend because of some decent yelp reviews and we weren't disappointed. The host/server (manager? owner?) took the time to explain ALL of the dishes to us, including all of the specials. [sidenote, being from CA, and hearing Catalonian Spanish with a Scottish accent was such a trip.] He presented and explained all of the dishes table side like you expect in a fine dining restaurant, and brought some olives and bread on the house. We had the four specials, papas bravatos (I think) were my boyfriend's favorite, and the Sancho and Calamari were menu staples that were lovely. Everything we had was cooked perfectly to us, and all of the meats so tender. We washed it all down with a liter of sangria, which had cinnamon as a new twist for us. The tabla quijote platter of meat and cheese allowed us to taste every variety on offer. Some were nicer than others (I'm not a fan of blue cheese!) but it was a great sharing plate for anyone who loves cured meat and chorizo. I also ordered a tapas sized of small peppers with white asparagus and topped with an Andalusian sauce. Phallic looking as they were (haha!) I rather liked them. The dish was chilled, asparagus was soft (not crunchy how I normally like asparagus) but tasty nevertheless. The sauce was nice too and I'd order them again. For my main I ordered the Pork Cheeks stew which was recommended by jenny. I went for the medium side but boy it was big! watch out on the sizes if you're having starter tapas too! The stew was basically a big bowl of soup like stew. Not what I was expecting but extremely tasty. I've never had pork cheeks before but the meat was slow cooked and fell away from the fork. Yum! The only thing was the lack of "chunky homemade chips" as described in the menu. There were bits of potato in the stew but chips? Nope. Would I go back? Definitely. The food was authentic and tasty and its really near my work so v handy! It's small but cute with terracotta pots and plants dotted around inside. Quite quaint. If it wasn't for the garlic in the food it would be an ideal date venue! :)
