The one recommended seemed competent, but I found his attitude extremely arrogant and snobby. He doesn't really care about what you want, or your lifestyle. He doesn't care whether or not you will be able to style your hair at home following his work. He doesn't care about the issues you're having with hair loss, etc, but know that if you talk about this, he will push you to spend a fortune on very expensive store products that make no difference at all. He is very arrogant and seems to think his skills are over and above. You will look runway-ready when he's done with your hair, but unless you're a stylist yourself, you will likely not be able to duplicate the look at home, in fact, you will struggle with it every day. If I return to this salon, I will 100% avoid this stylist.

I saw this salon while grocery shopping, and decided to try it out on a whim - very glad I did! The initial appointment booking was positive - the receptionist asked a couple of questions about my hair, recommended a stylist and was helpful in finding a good time (evenings and weekends... :P) When I arrived for my appointment, the salon appeared fairly clean and tidy with lots of product displays. I was sent to the hair salon downstairs (I didn't realize the building was so big!), where I met my stylist Shauni. She was friendly and welcoming, and totally put me at ease immediately. Here's the thing. I like to change my hair up, and I like a stylist who isn't afraid to make some suggestions based on my face, the way I describe my routine, the length of my hair and any goals I might have (growing it out, something "beachy", etc...) I can be somewhat vague and I don't always know exactly what I want when I arrive at the salon, so I love someone who can be flexible, take charge and produce a great cut on a limited amount of information and direction. Shauni totally did that. She was a great listener, made some suggestions (we cut bangs instead of a side fringe because she pointed out it would get a bit flippy with my glasses - observant!!) and was a confident, efficient stylist. The hair wash chairs were the most comfortable I think I've ever been in. The salon was helpful and friendly, and there was a down-to-business attitude that I really like - I was in and out within about 45 minutes. I love my new haircut, and I'll be going back to her again when it's time to get it cut again!

SAM is the sweetest, kindest, gentlest soul and took my long tangles and tamed them into a shiny healthy beautiful cut and style! I am SO gratified! This is the most amazing hairstylist in the city and especially if you have Asian hair. I feel like I am with a New York stylist.. Raymond is so attention filled, he explains everythign he does and I always leave looking like i have lost 20 pounds because the hair shape he has choosen on me suits my whole persona. In general Calgary is lack of good Asian hair stylists compare to Vancouver, so I was happy that Raymond handled my hair fairly well. However, I started to get fed up with this place because even if you made an appointment, you still have to wait at least half hour for the hair stylist to come to you, then half way, he will be going to another person, and then you have to wait for him to come back to finish the job. In average, it takes me 2 hours to complete a simple hair cut from the time I walked in on time for my appointment. This has never happened in any other places I've been to. Also, although Raymond is a good hairstylist, when it's really busy, he got distracted, stressed and so he didn't do as a good job as he could. My last hair cut was horrible, I spent 2 and half hours there just got a few hair trimmed. I could have done that myself at home! Anyways, I am going to try some other places. It's just not worth the wait unless you really have tons of time.

It was obvious that she was a student still learning how to cut hair. You could tell she did not want to do it and was rude and very unprofessional. When she asked me what I wanted I told her that I usually go for a number 2 for the sides and a 5-6 for the top length. She started looking for her supplies in her drawer and couldn't even find her comb and then she said that she only had a number 4 for the top and that's all she was going to be able to do. She did not have the proper supplies!! I said to use her own discretion thinking she was a professional but I promptly realized she didn't even know how to properly hold the sheers to cut the sides or even the trimmer, which I thought would not be difficult to manage. She used the number 4 and it was way too short and since she was holding it wrong (I could feel something weird happening on my hair but could not see it) she made me bold and completely ruined my hair. The sides are uneven, the top is completely bold, the front is too short and I honestly look like someone shaved my head but used different numbers for each side. I did not get her name but she was young, in her twenties, long brown curly hair, glasses and she said she was half Jamaican, half French, which she mentioned because she asked me if I was from Calgary and told her I was but that my parents were from Colombia. I usually don't write reviews like these but I was so horrified that I had to say something. I just cannot believe that they would charge me 37 dollars plus tip for completely ruining my hair prior to an important Christmas event I'm supposed to attend in a few days. The haircut is so bad that I'm actually thinking about not attending this event because I would have to wear a hat. Whatever you do, DO NOT go to this Chatters, the quality is absolutely terrible, the people that run it are unprofessional, not knowledgable at all, they were supposed to have 25% off but was still charged full price. There was no compassion or willingness to fix the issue and compensate me in one way or another, I just paid and left. I just wanted to get out of there and run as fast as I could! I'm going to let the photos I took speak for themselves. And I will most definitely be taking this along with my evidence to the Better Business Bureau to place a formal compliant against this business so they can issue a fine. I'm going to contact my bank and show them the evidence and stop payment on the $42 dollars (including a $4.50 tip) they charged me for a haircut that is going to ruin the rest of the year!

My initial question upon entry was, "How much for a trim?" I was surprised to hear that it was only $25, but since it was my first visit I would receive 10% off. Awesome, I thought, let's do it. I was immediately seated at a stylists chair, since I was the only customer at the time, and promptly introduced to Sashi, my stylist for the day. It wa great friendly service from the two ladies working that day. My stylist, Sashi, really understood what I meant when I said I wanted to keep the length. She said she would only take off what was necessary to get rid of the dead ends. I loved her! She took maybe a centimetre off my ends, and fixed up my bangs for me. Once I was done I inquired about waxing, since many places are extremely over-priced. They told me I could have a full Brazilian done for only $40... I think that's pretty amazing. I decided to skip the invasive waxing for the day and just get my brows threaded instead. Now, I've never had the threading done, only the waxing. I've got to say, after experiencing threading of the brow, I don't think I'll ever go back to waxing! The overall experience at Trends was fabulous. I was in and out with a splendid trim and my eyebrows done in under 40 minutes... and it cost me under $40! That's a winner in my books!

The great thing about this salon is that they are personable and will give experienced advice while also being sensitive to listen. They stand behind their quality artistic work and take it very seriously. They are following sanitizing protocol and require masks for stylists and clients. The parking on the front street is sometimes crowded but side streets have space with no parking fees. They are fair in their pricing even with being in an upscale Kensington area. Book ahead if you can.
