Extremely low savings rate. Treats customers like children with restrictions on amounts that can be transferred between customers savings and checking accounts. You know, because we cant be trusted with our own money. The support person told me it was "just how the system was, so no one steals your money.." Like I'm a child. I just withdrew my savings from their miserable savings account and stuck it in a HYSA earning 400% more per year than FCCU. Plus, they STILL have customers entering their social security numbers via the phone they are calling from, so, their "security" concerns seem backwards. Robotic answering service proves their deep concern and interest in "customer service", now I expect a call later from customer service browbeating me for complaining here. This is the corporate headquarters and they are not deserving of even one star. I would hate to see how the branch offices function. They used to be more than acceptable when they first opened and I have been a member since this main office opened. They have been on a steady downward spiral and have finally crashed and burned. Unbelievably unprofessional, trying to reach someone by phone is a nightmare, unnecessary and ridiculous procedures to talk to anyone in person, getting a cashiers check is a nightmare, teller machines are a joke, etc. etc. Today was the last straw. BEWARE!!!! Enter at your own risk. This incredibly unprofessional organization does not deserve a single star. I'm sure that prisoners in the Harris County jail get better service, better treatment and more knowledgeable assistance than this sad excuse for a financial institution offers. Our history goes back a few years when we were attracted to a checking account that offered nearly 3% interest. We went to an HEB location to learn and we were assisted by a trainee probably on his first day who gave us such incorrect info that he had to call us back twice to apologize. The branch manager stood over to the side yakking with the tellers, I said her name several times, more loudly each time, before she came over. She gave us information that conflicted what the trainee told us, and much of what SHE told us also turned out to be untrue. The interest rate was much lower, but still better than any savings account we'd seen elsewhere, so we opened the account despite the perturbing indications of disinterest, indifference and incompetence. A couple of years later we applied for a home equity loan and got caught in a weeks-long ordeal that even the Three Stooges couldn't have gotten away with. Paperwork was repeatedly lost, bank officials refused to return calls or emails, and they were downright rude and condescending whenever they could be reached. Suddenly, at the end of the month, when quotas are due or whatever, they go into overdrive trying to get the credit line funded and start requesting all kinds of documents and things that we had already provided to them, some on multiple occasions. It was unbelievably bad, the people were rude and uncaring and, dare I say, ignorant of their own industry. We paid back that loan quickly, and the credit line remained open. Now we are purchasing a home and needed a payoff letter from the credit union to show that the payoff amount was zero. Well, of course, they refused to provide it and were quite rude and condescending in the process. Every other bank in the world does this as a standard procedure, but not the dunces at FCCU. I guess if we still owed one cent we MIGHT have been allowed to get a payoff letter, but I wouldn't hold my breath for these knuckleheads to do ANYTHING right. It's just too much effort for some solitaire-playing desk jockey to print out on a letterhead with our account number showing a zero payoff. Their website is a mess, like it's still in the 20th century. I tried to log in with id and password. Suddenly, it doesn't like me anymore and demands a code. I selected to have a code texted to me. It never comes. I ask it again. Nope. I click it again. Nope. I finally change tactics and ask for an emailed code. Wow! I got one. Of course, it was "invalid." When I tried to use it again, a message pops up that the account has been locked and I need to contact the "financial institution" to reset the password. Jeez! This is MY account and I used the correct ID and password and I get locked out. You cannot wire or ACH funds in or out of a checking account, like it's 1997 or something. I tried once and got hit with a "bill pay" fee for months that I could not get removed. I remember once I went to the main HQ on 529 to go through the mobile ATM. Out of Order. What a surprise. I went inside. ATM Out of Order. Hmm. Went to a teller terminal to speak via telephone to what may have been a human being on a TV monitor. I felt like I was buying trying to buy a black market pistol in a third world pawn shop. Very impersonal. Impersonal, Indifferent, Incompetent, Insensitive, Inoperative, Ill-Informed - don't go IN unless you want to get ILL. read more

If I could I would give zero stars. The people are great who work for FCCU but their banking philosophy is absurd. I would highly suggest to reconsidering opening a loan with this bank. I believe I've spent more in hidden fees and been charged more than my property is even worth. Their guidance is not very direct as they will stick you with cost you had no clue about. I would stay away from these people and their loan products. I just finished another loan with them and they didnt honor the original rate and terms they gave me in writing. It was too late to back out and I was forced to accept it. Consumer warning: They put life and disability insurance into their loans and dont tell you. You have to catch it and tell them to take it out. This insurance costs more than the total interest on the loan. Dont fall for their lowest rate scheme which you must accept this insurance. Their website is slow and clunky. Overall I am not happy with this place at all. I would try another location at least. There are much better banks as well. I only use this place for loans but I wont be doing any more with them. read more

I went earlier this week with my daughter. she was trying to deposit a check. not only did it take 30 minutes to get a teller and the lines weren't long at all, there were only 3 people in the lobby!!! finally my daughter got to speak with a teller and was told that it would go on hold even though my daughter has an established account which, by the way, has been since she was 13 and she is now 19. this was not the first time they have placed one of her checks on hold. the first time it happened was in July of this year. which was understandable the first time it happened, however, this time we were questioning why her check was being put on hold this time. we requested to speak to a manager, which apparently is Theresa. my daughter was trying to get an explanation from Theresa and it was evident she was being condescending towards my daughter. Theresa explained they were putting a hold on the check because of the amount. the check was for $798.42. Theresa was speaking to my daughter like she was incompetent and kept asking "What don't you understand?" my daughter was being nothing but cordial to her even though Theresa was displaying unprofessionalism not only in what she was saying to my daughter but also her the tone in her voice and facial expression. it's evident Theresa has an attitude problem. needless to say, my daughter and I will be closing our accounts (I have been member since 1998) read more

I have banked here for a long time. But lately their service has been so slow.... Especially in the drive through. There were two people in the drive through and took me 30 mins that's ridiculous. This isn't the first time that it has been so slow. But this one was definitely the longest. Also I had another incident were they transferred $7000 in a wrong account thank god it was my parents. My slip Was filled out correctly with the correct account number the teller made the mistake. These tellers need proper training to make all transactions clear and time efficient. They changed the rules that if you didn't maintain a minimum balance of $25.00 then you had to pay a $5.00 a month penalty . Certainly not thrilled with these bozo's. I've been a member for over 20 years and as another Yelper mentioned, their service has deteriorated immensely. I just called them (waited, was # 26 in line, to avoid any obstacles) because I have a large check i wanted to cash and Specifically asked if i needed an appointment for the lobby and I was told the Drive thru could handle it. She said I did NOT need to come into the lobby. So i drove there, was denied at the drive thru. They have a 4K limit. which i disclosed the amount of my check when i called. So then i go to the lobby and instead of someone actually helping me. i was turned away for no mask. I didn't bring one because i was told the drive thru would be able to complete my transaction. The lady in the lobby could have processed this for me especially considering the aforementioned circumstances. That is why i called initially to avoid any BS. Now i have to do it all over again. So sad that this once great banking institution who has grown off the local community have really lost touch with their client base. They should treat their members the same way they expect to be treated. What happened to "go above and beyond" or " surprise and delight" Such horrible service. Maybe it's time for one of those Six Sigma Black Belt programs to re-teach some basic customer service skills. This also is not my first complaint with them. I spoke to a manager a couple months ago regarding another CC service issue and even prior to that, I sent them some feedback directly through their site. They've just continued to be unprofessional, unhelpful and seems they are only good at giving bad service. Looking to social distance myself further from them and the mask they require. I had to close an account due to a death. I had to talk to the assistant Vice President. She couldn't do anything. These are just titles. Everything wa someone else's department. I had a money order I forgot to send. She said it's been over 90 days so there is nothing they can do. I said it's $2700 so what happens to the money. She said she didn't know. Really you are the assistant VICE PRESIDENT! The money order is intact, never presented for payment so the credit union just gets to keep the money. Be very careful when you bank here. They automatically charge for disability insurance and single credit life insurance on their cards. You must go to a branch location to opt out. They charge you a fee for not using their bill pay service. I've been a member for 20 years, but their fees are ridiculous. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! I've been with this credit union for over 7 years. I've had 2 auto loans, a credit card with a high limit,etc through them. Not once have I had a late payment and I have my personal AND BUSINESS accounts through FCCU. I have A+ credit score. I requested a relatively modest personal loan and have gotten the run around for over 2 weeks and am still without an answer. They wanted to make it a secured loan and with my history, I REFUSE. Today was the last straw... it is the 3rd time I've been told I would get a call back and NO ONE CALLED! These are 3 managers at 2 different branches, including the corporate branch, that I'm talking about. I will be switching credit unions next week. I have been a "member" for about 8 years now. I was experiencing unnecessary and exorbitant fees from the big banks and went looking for a local credit union or bank that didn't have so many fees. Things were great for years. Something changed recently. They seem to have adopted assorted fees. Here are two examples that hit me recently. First - they take $3.95 from you if you are signed up for billpay and don't pay a bill via billpay in any given month. I called customer support and they reimbursed me and told me how to get around this fee - just set up a $1 payment to a credit card and have it recurring monthly. This is silly. There are so many better ways to handle this. I would guess that the credit union has a cost for me to be signed up to billpay. My guess is they use a third party service under the covers for some part of it. So if this were the case, I can understand charging me a fee to leave it active AFTER YOU NOTIFY ME THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED. Why not just send me an online message of some type that this occurred and if I ignore that and do nothing, then sure, charge me a fee if I am unnecessarily costing them money?! Second - I recently saw that they took $5 from my account for an "incorrect address fee." I inquired about this (they did reimburse it) and they explained that this is charged when they receive returned mail from the post office. Really now? If you are going to charge me a fee for that, why didn't you send me an online message in the account message center showing me a picture of what you sent and was returned, and to what address it was sent? Shouldn't I get some type of warning or notification first that my address needed to be updated? I overlooked changing this address following a recent move. Shame on me. You could be using your online messaging service to communicate these things to your members. Especially before charging a fee. read more

Auto loan department is the worst! They don't respond to emails, you can't get them on the phone, and if you call their main line, you get an answering machine. I went with them b/c their rates are really good, but had I known their customer service sucked so bad, I would have gone with another credit union. If you deposit a check , they hold it for over two weeks...and if you pay debts out of your account they hold those funds back as well..I am moving to a local bank and to try to establish a relationship with a real banker. I never gave this credit union any reason to doubt my deposits...and no reason for such long holds on checks. I tried to do one (1) loan with them on a 5000.00 motorcycle for my son and they denied me on my income (which is 80 plus a year) because they coudn't verify my income...LOOK AT MY DEPOSITS IDIOTS... Im done with them...3 years is WAY too long there...OH, also I opened a business account with them because it was free checking ...and they started charging me for the account... If it were possible to give no stars in a review, this place would freaking deserve it. I went to do a shared branch transaction at this asinine place & went to the drive-through. I was told that, for the particular type of shared branch transaction I desired, I would have to go inside. So I did. What do they have for tellers inside? Machines! I don't know what the difference could possibly be in using the machine & video feed in the drive-through & the damn machines inside, except that it results in the maximum amount of inconvenience. Stay away from this fccu I am banking here more than 20 years they are playing games charging overdraft fees they are sneaky the account format changes all the time transaction disappear 12 of my transaction showed paid off 4 where left the bought back the 12 plus 4 and charge me overdraft fee $35 each and I opt out from overdraft protection they told me does not matter we still pay them and charge you $35 overdraft fee so even though i opt out they still charge me i no longer use the card or check i withdraw the money and put in a prepaid card and use it i just have to pay $4.95 a month. read more

I was behind a few months but manage to come up with the money but when I called to ensure FCCU was not going to towed my car, she yelled at me and said "I don't give f... I just want to know where the car is", how can they employ a woman whi cursed their customers on the phone FCCU sent me letters and called me asking me about the whereabouts of my car but I called to ensure it was ok she cursed me out and yelled at me. I will never do business with FCCU unless this woman is fired. I had the money to bring my account current and was ready to go into the branch and make the payment but when I called this arrogant and mad woman Cynthia Blackshear treated me bad by yelling and cursing in the phone. I had the money to bring my account current but they refused to take it. Can you believe it? The bank refused to take my money because they wanted to know where the car was. Remember the name Cynthia Blachshear who cursed me out and just said "I don't give f... I just want to know where the f...my car is". read more

My wife and I have been with FCCU for about 15 years. Today, I got a "late payment notice", a $25 charge because we have a balance of $16.50 on our account. This is the first time I've got a notice like this, so I thought I'd check into this. I know all banks charge a percentage for balance at the end of the month, but 150% appears a trifle high! Anyhow, I checked my account online and do not see a $25 charge anywhere! So I called the bank and spoke to an agent. She transferred me to their collections department. The lady I spoke to there said that that the late payment notice is wrong....they actually charged me about $16 for a $4 overdue amount!!!! This brings up questions: - their written communication says $25, and the actual amount is was $16....so we can't trust their letters? - they suddenly started charged 400% for a late payment? The lady on the phone said she's going to get with her supervisor to see what is going on. However, I've noticed FCCU has been increasingly nickle and dime-ing us the last year or two, when we have thousands of dollars in our checking account, so her words do not exactly fill me with confidence. Anyhow, I went online and transferred $12 from the checking account to the credit card sub-account. Guess what...they charged me $3.50 for transferring money online WITHIN THE SAME ACCOUNT!!! $3.50 charge for an online transfer within the same account, and 400% charge on a $4 overdue credit card would be ridiculous for a regular bank. This is beyond ridiculous for a credit union. I'm moving out. read more

Went this morning to collect a draft for a boat I sold to a member at FCCU, been in the business over 20 years and collected drafts from a lot of different financial institutions over the years, my experience at FCCU has got to be the WORST ever! I called a day before to see if I could fax the paper work to them to help speed up the process since it's the last day of the year and they close at 1:00 PM, I was told I didn't need to do that and it doesn't take long at all, got there at 9:15 am and left at 10:30 without the check, I was told 3 times that it'll about done just 5 more min, then I was told the lady is on her way down with the check, 10 min later I go to the receptionist and she calls upstairs and the lady says 10 more min, at this point I was LIVID, obviously the girl at the members service desk was not telling the truth and giving me the runaround. At this point, I left as I had another appointment and told her I'll be back before they close. IT does not take this long to issue a check for a draft!!! Want to be treated like CRAP? I have excellent credit. I have been with this credit union for at least 15 years. I have financed two homes and two cars and have excellent payment history. I am now in my 10 1/2 week of trying to get a house that they financed for 8 1/2year refinanced at a lower rate. The employees in their real estate department are clueless. Again, they have been dragging this loan out, asking for bits and pieces of information instead of presenting us with a loan package that we could sit down and put together. Horrible, horrible experience. You get what you pay for when hire employees. People there don't know their business. read more
