The real pathetic disappointment is that we were assured by JD Speech Pathology that our insurance was covering the speech therapy--IN WRITING. Many sessions later, we're informed that our insurance was not covering it. This was JD Speech Pathology's failure and rather than zero out the balance decided to still bill us the difference. Have a weak voice or one that gives out after a short while? I did for years, not realizing that…read morethere is something that can be done. I was referred by an Ear, Nose & Throat doctor to a Speech Pathologist, Dr Shari Napier. These are the people that professional singers go to for help. Never occurred to me that this could help. I have sinus problems which irritate my throat and hence, my vocal cords get irritated and make me sound really hoarse and hard to be understood. While the irritation is always with me because of allergies, there are "exercises" that can be taught to help with all this. The sessions with Dr. Napier taught me how to train my vocal cords and how to talk differently so that I would resonate above my vocal cords. You have to practice under the watchful "ear" of Dr Napier, but she is patient and great at conveying these techniques. So, my voice drastically improved (roughly 15 sessions), but worth it. Phone calls and social gathers no problem now as they were before all this. But, understand, this is a new life stye because you have to continue to practice or you will fall back into your old sounding ways. That is OK however. I would highly recommend Dr Shari Napier to anyone having voice issues...she is great!
