Absolutely. I'd make it strong and frustrated, but tighten it up so the facts stand out and the review is more credible. SCAM! BEWARE BEFORE PAYING THE APPLICATION FEE! I only gave 1 star because I had to in order to leave this review. My experience with this company was incredibly frustrating. Before paying the application fee, I was unable to get clear information from anyone about the actual credit requirements or specific qualifications for renting a home. It was only AFTER we paid the application fees and were denied that I was finally able to get more information about their requirements. Even then, getting an explanation was ridiculous. The first agent I spoke with actually told me that the reason for our denial was "CLASSIFIED." Excuse me? This is not a government agency. You are a rental management company, and applicants who have paid fees deserve a clear explanation of the requirements and why they were denied. After escalating the issue to a supervisor, I was finally given more information. Apparently, they require EVERY applicant on the rental application to meet a credit standard that, in our situation, was comparable to what you would expect when qualifying to PURCHASE a home. If everyone already had home-buying-level credit, why would they necessarily be looking to rent? We do NOT have poor credit. Our credit is average, with one applicant actually well above their requirement and the other falling short by only a few points. Despite having superb rental history and MORE than the required income for the home, we were denied based on this credit requirement. My biggest issue is that this information should have been clearly disclosed BEFORE collecting application fees. Had we been able to speak with someone who could explain the actual requirements beforehand, we could have made an informed decision about whether it made sense to apply. Instead, we paid the fees first and learned the critical qualification details only after being denied. BEWARE BEFORE YOU APPLY AND PAY! Ask for the exact credit requirements for every applicant in writing before handing over your application fee. This is my 4th day dealing with a water leak from my ceiling in our living room. I have called and called and uploaded photos and today they finally came out after water damage my carpet and etc. So they stop the water leak but can't remove all the mess and leaving my living room looking at mess. After 12 years of paying my rent on time and have been a good tenant i will no longer sigh another lease. Pictures show how they left my living room. Didn't even bother to take some of that down. This as an actual concern I sent to them after several circus attempts of them not fixing my a/c issues. I am not a complainer and it takes a long time for me to get this angry. This is getting ridiculous. If I wasn't so mad I'd be laughing and how bad your service is. How are you still in business? A/C is running, blowing cooler air but I have still not heard a word about fixing the damaged air ducts under the house and replacing your ridiculous fix of a crawl space door. The A/C company told me they were waiting for a pest control call before they go under the house. Why did I have to hear that from them? I had no idea. Would you please fix the damn problem? would rate zero stars if I could We had a house their FirstKey two years ago and it took us forever to get a solution for a black mold issue so I should not have tried again but here I am needing a house, We applied for a new house that we really liked. Needless to say we did not end up getting it because the Indian call Center FirstKey uses told us everything was complete and we would hear back with approval or denial within 24 hours and we did not We waited more than 24 hours before the house was taken off the market and when I called them back, they said my application was incomplete even though the lady told me everything was complete. It was perfect and they submitted it. Then, after being told that we have to go to the vet and get documentation of what type of breed my psychiatric service animal is more than two times I had to explain that they're breaking a law for the fair housing act that they cannot request DNA from a service animal as it's not considered a pet After relocating multiple states and being homeless now for over a week, it took me almost an entire week to get a hold of a supervisor to listen to the recorded line, and of course, after they listen to the recorded line I got no call back and they just completely ignored my calls for almost another week as I was calling three times a day being told that a supervisor would call me back in the next couple hours to the next 24 hours no, after a two week process on Firstkey half my girlfriend finally got a hold of a supervisor even though I've been requesting a callback for weeks now and every time I get the same story that they're too busy on the phone from the second they opened to the second they close The sales team was claiming due to their mistake that we could talk to the supervisors and have them adjust the price of almost exactly the same house right next-door to match that one and of course, the supervisor is saying they cannot adjust prices on any of the houses as they posted it way over market value and sit on it for 2 to 5 months before they finally rented because then it's within an affair market value So now after over a three week process with 3 to 8 phone calls a day we are finally attempting to get a refund for our application as we are never going through FirstKey homes again and we're gonna have to wait 7 to 14 days to even get a refund for our applications This company has been a total joke in the past and this new application over 2 to 3 years later has proven that there's still a complete joke that they charge houses and that they do not assist you because everything goes through an Indian call center and you can't even reach a supervisor or anybody who can actually assist you besides for the telemarketers who answer the call and keep you on the phone for 30 minutes, trying to resolve your issue that they cannot resolve, even if you know that at the very beginning 0/10 I hate to say being that I'm homeless right now, but l'd rather be homeless and continue to be homeless than going through FirstKey homes Never again read more

Dont rent from this company. Do not. Do not. Do not. DO NOT! Save yourself the heartache and find another home. Issue after issue. My family has been sweltering in the heat after our air conditioning failed yet again. Going on 4 days without any sort of resolution, information of repairs, or even a call back. I have two elementary school aged kids, my wife is 8 months pregnant. Our home has been 86-90 degrees for days. And they have done nothing. 1 star. This was one of the worst rental experiences my family has had. The main problem with FirstKey Homes was not just that things broke. The real problem was the combination of broken home systems, very slow repair response, and charges that felt unfair and excessive. The water heater failed during December, in cold weather, and my family had to live without proper hot water for about a month. We bought electric kettles to heat water for bathing and sometimes had to go to hotels or the gym just to shower. That should never happen in a professionally managed rental. The sink drain pipe then broke, and instead of getting repaired promptly, that situation dragged on for around three months. Water spread onto the kitchen floor while multiple repair teams came to inspect the problem and left without fixing it. To make matters worse, parts of the area were opened up during inspection and not properly restored right away. The problem ended up being handled by me and a family member rather than by the company that was supposed to maintain the home. The refrigerator and kitchen hood also had problems. In one case, two technicians showed up for the same repair request at the same time, and I was later charged in connection with that visit. That was deeply frustrating. There was also rotted damage around the frame/door area that allowed rainwater to come into the house. That repair still took around two weeks. The garbage disposal issue was one of the clearest examples of why this experience felt so unfair. The disposal was old and no longer working. After a delay, a technician came out, and then FirstKey Homes tried to rely on photos of ordinary food residue from that day to blame me and charge me $150. From my perspective, that was not a credible explanation for why an outdated disposal unit had failed. Ramon the maintenance person came to fix the leaking and black water spots in the ceiling in the guest bathroom. Turns out it was a cracked pipe. At first I thought it was done and I gave Ramon a good review. I later learned that first key charged me a 150 fee to fix it. Said it was my responsibility to fix a cracked pipe in the attic. The maintenance man also inadvertently created a hole in the ceiling Turns out the black water spots came back. I was told that another maintenance man would be coming to fix the damages to the ceiling. This is not fair. I rent this place. Been here longer than first key. Time to make a change. read more

FirstKey Homes is by far the worst property management company I've dealt with. Maintenance issues go ignored for weeks unless you call their outsourced call center in the Philippines and demand escalation. Otherwise, you're left in a loop with no callback, no updates, no help. In our case, a kitchen light fixture completely failed. It took over two weeks to get a tech out -- and when he came, he was unprepared, installed only half the bulbs needed, and left electrical wires visible inside the light fixture. We provided photos and asked for a proper repair, and FirstKey refused. Instead, they charged us $105 and closed the ticket. Now we are left with a dimly lit kitchen and an unsightly yellow electrical wire exposed on the light fixture. If you're considering renting from them, don't. The company is unresponsive, disorganized, and does not care about tenant safety or service. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THESE SLUMLORDS!!! Maintenance is, for the most, part non-existent. However, when they do agree to come out for a maintenance issue, they are incompetent. Their stock answer to maintenance requests is "it's the residents responsibility". Maintenance requests that are non-emergency, and just about every request made they consider to be non-emergency - take weeks before anyone will address it. I called them after the Derecho storm in May 2024 regarding damage to the garage door - it was bent from the high winds to the extent that it was sagging in the center - and they came out and did a band-aid fix and left. Hurricane Beryl in July 2024 also had high winds and the door seemed fine, but would jerk and shake sometimes. Now, in October 2024, I was leaving the house and had backed out of the garage and the door was closing and as it came down, one of the cables broke, a couple of rolling pins came off the track and the door came down "wonky" - lower on one side - and the tracks bent and have pulled away from the wall. I had to have my brother-in-law come over to help lift the door on one side while I pulled down on the other to straighten the door, so that I could close and secure the garage. On one hand I am lucky, my car was outside the garage, so I am able to leave the house. The downside is that I must park on the street in a neighborhood that has ALOT of car break-ins. I called the maintenance dept and they gave me an "appointment" to come out 12 days later. The house I am renting is a patio home which has a completely enclosed front and back yard and the garage is more of a "carport" - two sides open to the yard and house inside the fenced in yard. One side of each house is also a shared wall between the patio homes. My neighbor contacted me after the Derecho storm to let me know that the gutters that are attached to the house I live in and makeup the shared wall/fence were damaged and leaking. I notified FirstKey to let them know. There response was that it was my responsibility to repair them. Gutters are attached to the house structure and the property owner's responsibility and yet they refuse to even survey the damage to THEIR PROPERTY. In the early spring, before the Derecho Storm, the AC condensation overflow pan that is in the attic began leaking through the hall bathroom air vent in the ceiling. It was really coming down. They sent a guy out who cleaned out the pipe that is supposed to drain condensation outside the house. However, when he left the flow of condensation to the bathroom did not slow and cease as he said it would when he left. Instead, it got worse. Another maintenance guy was sent back and he discovered that the previous guy while "fixing" things in the attic, stepped on the PVC condensation pipe in the attic and it broke clean in half, The second guy fixed the pipe and the leak stopped. My lease is ending next month and I gave my Notice to Vacate and then promptly received multiple emails trying to convince me to renew my lease. When that did not work, they then started sending me very foreboding emails preparing me for the inevitable. One email had a list of cleaning tasks that they expect me to do, when they made no attempt to do this before I moved in. They also provided a list of exorbitant charges that they would deduct from my security deposit if I did not complete these tasks - again, tasks that were not done prior to my move in. Charges like: $75 Deep Cleaning (per room), $350 tub resurface (the hall bath has an old ceramic tub that clearly has been "patched" in several areas that are peeling away and were there when I moved in), $350 Carpet stains/steam clean (they did not clean the urine soaked carpets before I moved in), $125-$250 to mow the yard, $125 replace smoke detector/CO2 detector, $15 to replace a lightbulb. They are clearly in the business of fleecing their tenants. Do not expect to get any of your deposit back. They have also stated that although my lease ends mid-month, I must pay a full month's rent at the beginning of the month and then they will reimburse me the overpayment of rent AFTER I move out. Not happening. They truly are not educated in Texas rental laws. When I moved in, this place was filthy. I accept the concept of leasing "as is" when you are renting a house, rather than an apartment, but I had mistakenly thought when I first walked the property that a "make ready" would be completed before my actual move-in. The house was overall filthy. Once I had removed all of the "plug-in" air fresheners I discovered why there were so many. The carpets reeked of dog urine. (Trash day didnt come yet). $700 to replace the carpet. There was nothing wrong with it. I even had it steamed cleaned just in case. No damages to it at all especially after years of foot traffic. $150 pressure washing. The house is peeling and needs paint but they chose to pressure wash it and charge me. $40 for a brick!!! A brick to prevent the mulch from being washed out from their half working gutter system. They literally charged me to throw the brick away. Seriously?? $225 to clean the house, even though i cleaned it. They dont clean their houses before the next tenant. They expect the previous tenants to make the house look brand new for the next tenant. They dont have their own cleaning crew so they have to hire one and they passed that charge onto me. They said the sinks needed to be wiped down because of water stains. the toilets had permanent rings in it. The water is really hard in the neighborhood. Normal household products wouldnt get it out. Thats why they had ti hire a cleaning crew. $75 to repaint the garage. It was an unfinished garage in raw condition with marks and random paint from when i moved in it was like this. They charge for that. ----------------------- Ashley and Theresa have zero communication mthey never answer emails or calls. They arre never in the office. Work from home or running errands all the time. You can hear kids in the background. Horrible maintenance. I lived here for about 8 years at the same address. They do not communicate at all. Management never reaches out whenever you request them to. Maintenance never knows what they are doing. I went at least four times over the 8 years without air conditioning for at least a week or two. They raise the rent drastically every year but aren't willing to fix things on the house. I would highly recommend NOT using this company. I'm so glad that we no longer have to rent from this company. Once i put my notice in, they charged me "non compliance fees" because of the grass, but it was raining for a week, and the grass grew quickly. After getting a notice to remedy it within 10 days, i cut it immediately, and they still charge fees. I've had notices before, and they never charge me anything as long as i fixed the situation. Now that i have left negative feedback or left bad reviews, they want to charge for stuff they have never charged. This company sucks. Beware! You can never get anyone on the phone.
