Coming to visit family in Fairfield, I had heard of a newer cider brewery and restaurant that served great food and cool cider flavors. That was underselling it - this cider house is awesome! I love that there are so many different fruit flavors in their ciders. My personal favorites were the watermelon and apricot. There is also a great selection of burgers all the way from your classic cheeseburger down to a no-meat burger, each with its own unique toppings. I got the 'Merica Burger and didn't even have time to take a picture because I just scarfed it down. They have a great selection of sides too - chips, slaw, potato salad, or a glass of your favorite cider! We will definitely be coming back to the Cider House every time we are back in town. I've been a few times. The ambiance is great, it's delightful to sit outside in warm weather, and I love that they support live music. My only complaint is that food service is kinda slow and the way you order food and drinks is kinda clumsy. It's almost like the food is an afterthought to what was originally intended to be a bar. I recently made the mistake of going on a Friday night at 7pm. They were busy and there were about 10 people ahead of us in the line. It took 30+ minutes to reach the order window, at which time we were informed it was an hour and a half wait to get our food. Why couldn't a manager or a staff member inform the people standing patiently (as the line was steadily growing) of the wait time before we got to the window? Completely unacceptable lack of customer service. Once you actually get your food, it's great, and the bar service is pretty efficient. Great selection of drinks. read more

The burgers were amazing! We did not need ketchup, mustard, mayo or anything else from the original recipe. The service was also outstanding, as long as you're willing to go to a window to order. The ambience and the beauty of the facility are breathtaking! We drove from Des Moines Iowa, two hours to get to the cider house. We enjoyed the fall leaves, and are deeply grateful for a great meal! What a fantastic place off the beaten path this is! I've eaten at many establishments during my travel days, nationally and abroad, but this one tops the list. I met a friend here one evening for dinner because, she recommended it. She was spot on with how awesome it was! It's such a cool place with unique decor and a beautiful patio. The ambiance was fantastic. Staff was very friendly and attentive. All I ordered was the Caprese salad, but it was delicious. Wish they had another one in Des Moines. Without a doubt it would be one of the finest places here. Until then, I'll be taking the drive from Des Moines to Fairfield to go back here again...numerous times. read more

Stephenback and Fishson? This is such a fun place! This ciderie (a place that makes cider?) is located in the middle of nowhere north of Fairfield. The place is off a dirt road on the other side of a little lake, which makes for a picturesque place to take in your ciders. They offer a flight deal, which I highly recommend. You can take in the whole menu of their own ciders in two flights, or eight tastes of about six ounces each, which makes for a great deal. Their flavors are seriously all over the place. When I went, the brewer (ciderer?) was there to answer all my plentiful questions. She knew her stuff. They add all kinds of other fruits and flavors to the ciders to get these crazy tastes. Most of them are less alcoholic than the typical beer, so get wild with tasting all the flavors. The menu seems to change as the seasons change and their availability of certain types of fruits and such come into season. The bar also serves burgers. I didn't try the food. They have indoor and outdoor seating. When I went, the outdoor patio was the place to be, with a great view of the prairie and the sunset made for a gorgeous backdrop to delicious ciders. They also have a full bar, with lots of local beers, but I solely stuck to the ciders. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our night here even though it took an hour for our food to come. Be prepared to wait and order a flight of hard cider or two and the time passes pretty quickly. The only hard cider we didn't care for was the pineapple. I had the Barbershop Burger and the pumpkin soup, which I loved but don't worry there is also potato salad, chips etc. No French fries here. We drove almost an hour to get here but it was a fun adventure. read more

The "Really Fun Guy" burger is the best burger I've ever eaten. Highly recommend. The building is also really enjoyable, with tons of windows over the view of a pond. Was in the area and decided to try it out. Took 45 minutes to get our sandwich to long for bar food. The food was ok but not exceptional. We were hungry so the 45 minute wait did not help our attitude. We got some drinks and the bartender shorted my drink. Said he would take a $1.00 off but not sure he did as he had to redo our bill after he put someone else's drinks on our tab.
