Imagine you're putting on a fair, and while attendees from all over the world and campuses attend, the stars are local gifts given a new life to be sold or resold here, at the Fisher Home Hospice Shop. That is the Fisher Home Hospice Shop: a marvelous showroom of timeless artifacts, clothes, books, games, and necessities that you might overlook or fail to live without. Let me give you a nice laundry list of my purchase of a tidy litany of needs, all for under a hundred dollars: Relevant literature/books for me, my new favorite clutch purse bag, snow gloves, two phone holders for vehicles, fine clothing for me and my family, household staples like notepads or three ring binder punches, and for sure my list could go on. Let's stop saying that the money you pay for these is too much or too little and instead look to what your purchase does: it funds the Fisher Hospice Home. This isn't your typical 'store,' and would be more fair to call it a non-profit venture. Volunteers maintain the store floor, swap out goods seasonally, review donations, and they all work as volunteers, for gratuity alone. The love they spend on what visitors might like is obvious, from their childrens' toy section, to their miniature library, to the household goods section. The space is maintained, full of light, and is accessible. What might challenge you is that what you find here is going to be more personal to you, instead of some wide class you happen to be a part of. That is what happens when you merchandise in timeless necessities--you would just as likely find a selfie stick here as you might find typewriter paper. What you leave with is actually liberating: there's no tracker of your behavior as a consumer, there's no brand loyalty that you're analyzed for, you're just a local shopper. Perhaps that's why the Fisher Home Hospice Shop feels like any internationally savvy visitor would visit, because what strikes you might be as surprising as any other bargain reseller, like Marshalls or TJ Maxx. Here, it's local, it's for a cause, and it's open to the public. The mother of all thrift stores! Looks like a nice boutique inside. Stock changes by the hour due to high volume of donations and shoppers. Worth a trip to Western Mas! read more

It is indeed very nice quality and well priced - but the selection was very small. I went to try to expand my work wardrobe, as some reviews made it sound like a destination for business-casual, but found only a handful of items worth trying in. The store was clean and well organized, and employees/volunteers kind enough, but I don't think it's a shop I'll make a point of going back to often. read more

Wonderful place with great finds & prices. Not a big selection as the shop is small. They are moving across the street in Sept to a larger space with more parking. I hope they are able to put out more household items and clothing. read more

The men's section in this store is extremely small, but for the prices that you're paying you really can't complain. The first time I came in, the ladies working the counter were in a rush to get me out of the store, but once they realized that I was actually going to buy something they were extremely excited to have me in there and were telling me about all of the deals that they were preparing for as the clothing season was about to change. 50% off followed by $1 everything in the store? Ya, I'll but some khakis there, anytime. read more

Clean, neatly organized shop. Prices are very reasonable. Quality clothing and accessories. I needed a coat this winter. Found a current style, wool, ivory coat in my size for $8.00. I have found beautiful linens at times.......timeless treasures for $2.00. I purchase books, read them and return them for resale because the price is so reasonable. All of the volunteers that offer their time to run the store are lovely and very helpful. Because items that I have purchased have been so reasonable I have begun to bring my gently used items to them for their resale......a very worthy cause. read more

I looked up places to thrift while vacationing in New England. I decided to stop by because it looked like a good cause to support. There is not a lot of inventory, but the items they do have looked to be in great condition and most prices were quite reasonable. The book section had some recent titles and prices on those were a steal! Wish there wasn't weight limits on planes. Also, the volunteers that work there are giving of themselves & their time. I LOVE this place! I get 98% of my clothes here! They do such a good job cleaning and presenting them and the prices are incredible. Designer brand items for a steal. Every time I go in there's new stuff too! Only downside is they NEVER have had shoes in my size but that's OK bc my shoe size is pretty common (they must get bought up quickly). What a find. I feel like I shouldn't even post to keep the shopping competition down. If you are willing to wear quality, conservatively-styled used clothing, this is your place. They have women's and men's, some housewares/linens, shoes and accessories (mostly women's). I have found amazing things here, not chic designer finds, just very good stuff bought by people who want good things that last. The prices are CHEAP. Not tag sales prices, but very affordable. And they have frequent sales. For example, an iconic 1980s Lanz quilted satin red plaid Christmas hostess skirt with velvet buttons ($5), which I cut up and made into a set of three fantastic holiday pillows I'll be selling at a craft fair for $75. Recently I bought my friend, a jazz vocalist, a 1950s black top with attached cream silk-skirted dress there for....$15. Handmade, amazingly flattering and completely retro-FABULOUS. She was beyond excited and plans to wear it for her next few gigs. This is also a great place for grad students and young folks to find "work wear" for job interviews. The selection of men's sport jackets and suits is pretty impressive, if a bit tweedy, reflecting the town's university orientation. (There are three colleges/universities here.) read more

Unlike some thrift shops, the stuff here is clean and doesn't have that musty smell. I've scored some great skirts, sweaters, blazers, books, and decorations here.
