Been here many times for different concerts and it's a HIT every time! From the main floor, to high top seats by the sound booth, to balcony seats, there isn't a bad spot here to experience your favorite band or act. Many show up early and start the line that winds around the building so be ready for that. Rain, shine or snow! Haven't ordered any food here through all the concerts we've been to but have purchased a few cocktails and beers and the prices are reasonable for a venue like this. Cheaper than an arena that's for sure! The lights and sometimes the pyro that is allowed here is top notch. Mixed with the sound that rocks your chest (depending on the band of course), you get your money's worth. All of the ones we've been too have "gone over the specified time". Whatever that means, we're enjoying it. Whether it's the FIlmore's doing or the band's doing by feeding off of the crowd's energy, we'll always stick around longer! read more

The Fillmore Detroit was host to an outstanding author event! It was for our former Vice-President Kamala Harris. It was a sold-out affair. We started out with Happy Hour at The Fillmore Detroit Bar for food and a refreshing drink. The bar is the former State Bar. It is a cool place to chill and the service was very quick. I had a Watermelon Lemonade Riffresher, chicken tenders and fries. It was an excellent venue for us to hear from author Kamala Harris to talk about her new book, 107 Days. She was delivering a message on her short road to the presidential campaign and the state of affairs today that have many U. S. Citizens feeling emotionally hijacked....but I digress. This was a great opportunity to experience in such a beautiful venue. It truly reminded me of a more intimate Fox Theatre. read more

Interesting venue! I came to The Filmore to see Kalama Harris speak. The overall decor and interior of the venue was breathtaking. Beautifully decorated in the main space with gorgeous art on the walls and ceiling. Getting into the building was another story. Extremely long security lines, lots of steep stairs and semi clean bathrooms. I do understand this is a 100 year old building but some of it felt unsafe. I was seated in the upper balcony which made it hard to hear at times and difficult to see the main stage. There was a wide variety of drink options and food as well. Had a pretty good deal for popcorn and a drink for $10. The facility did its job but there are definitely room for improvements! read more

This location is perfect for events. Went on a date to the still sipping podcast tour that was held here. Found a garage close by to pay and park. The staff working was fast and friendly. Now the only thing I can say is that the drinks are highly overpriced and probably not worth it. The seat rows are pretty tight. It was a big and beautiful space and even sitting up high you can still see the stage. read more

Was there to see A Conversation with Kamala Harris, Former Vice President of the United States. There were separate lines for Fast Lane which is express entry into the theatre at an additional cost. For special events, the State Bar opens an hour prior to doors and offers a variety of lite refreshments and alcoholic beverages. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed by the crowd and some were quite unpleasant. We were able to clear security in a decent amount of time, but the show was delayed over an hour because of the additional screening. That was slightly off putting, but we didn't let it dampen the evening. Due to FOUR simultaneous events(Detroit Pistons game, concert at the Fox, a comedy show at Hockey Town and Kamala Harris at The Fillmore) Woodward Avenue was bustling with activity! Our seats were on the Main Floor and ushers were very helpful. The theatre is BEAUTIFUL and very ornate. Acoustics were good and our line of sight was awesome. In spite of it getting off to a rocky start, it was a FANTASTIC evening! read more

We've never been to The Fillmore and were so pleased with our experience! The Swedish band The Hives were in town and it was the perfect venue to house the electronic energy that they perform at. Considering it's a 100 year old venue it has great bones and is very beautiful inside. We had great seats in the lodge with perfect sight lines. I enjoy this venue. It's not the most organized, as we were not let in at the correct times for our concert, which was a bit of a disappointment. Great venue! Gorgeous historic theater and staff are super helpful. The music always sounds robust. My latest visit to the Fillmore was when Something Corporate was in town. We bought parking ahead of time across the street from the Fillmore and Comerica Park. Super easy in and out. From getting out of the concert to our car took all of a few minutes. The line to get in was intimidating. We showed up 20 minutes after doors open and the line still was super long! Staff were doing their best to control where the line was wrapping. They also were diligently, checking IDs and getting wristbands on people who wanted to drink. Be sure to check their bag policy. You either can bring in a clear bag that's larger or a smaller bag like a clutch. They do extensive searches of your bags. They will open every single tiny little compartment and even open eye glass cases or if you have a tin of mints. You also cannot bring in hand sanitizer. There's tons of bars everywhere, no matter the level that you're on. They also have some food items. They check tickets no matter where you're sitting. General admission was totally closed off other than small entrances that had staff checking tickets. This obviously goes for the tickets with a seat too. We sat in the highest balcony, which doesn't have the greatest views and was super hot. But the bar and bathrooms were never that busy. Staff were really helpful with getting you to your seat and also shining the light for you if you are walking down the stairs during the show. The theater is absolutely gorgeous and you could spend a whole night just walking through it and admiring the architecture and decor. The theater can hold a decent amount of people, but is not so large that you lose that intimate type vibe of a concert. read more

I didn't realize this is the former State Theater until someone told me. It's been 30 years since I was in this building. Of course it's been updated a tad. I came for the Black Women Rock 20th Anniversary Concert with friends. Their staff is helpful (with finding your seat). The area is spacious and beautiful to see. If you want to buy drinks inside, they carded and placed a wristband on your arm. I was told that a single can of beer was $12. Thank goodness I wasn't there for that. The sound system worked VERY well. It was easy to see the stage. The views are good. read more

We usually only get the themed drinks at the state bar when we're at the Filmore so no comment on the food. Service has always been good, I'm just now reviewing this place after being here numerous times. So big shoutout to the staff, all helpful and chill. ( The black girl with the blonde highlights helped me out last visit too with our seats, she needs a raise, she's stellar and the adorable goth girl that is a waitress, we had her last time too, both of these ladies make your venue great. Give them raises ) It was packed for Manson this last sunday ( heck of a good show ), lines moved fast and staff got it done. Sadly it was cold and raining, I feel like you guys should have setup an outside covering knowing the weather. GA/ Non fast lane and non state bar were out in that freezing rain for hours. There should have been accommodation in that regard. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't get physical tickets as keepsakes, I've done it before and the box office closed early this time it seems. Even with the nitpicks this is still one of my favorite venues, I always jump on acts I want to see if it's there. I'll be back soon enough for another show. Also, on your instagram. Don't turn off comments for controversial artists, I thought that was a little cowardly to turn off comments for the Manson concert. Left them on for Till Lindemann though. I came to the Fillmore tonight to see Postmodern Jukebox. I've been to most of the music venues in Detroit but had never been to the Fillmore before, so I was excited to try it out. Be aware they do have a bag policy, you can bring a wristlet basically or a larger clear bag. I was able to find details on it online so I opted just not to bring a bag. It was very easy to get into the venue, if you want to drink they give you a wristband but if you don't drink then don't bother with that. The chairs were actually really comfortable, I'm not sure if all of their concerts are like those or not, but we sat on the main floor and had chairs and plenty of legroom. The only caveat is that the bathroom is in the basement, but that's standard for a lot of the venues in this area. My friend and I each got a drink and they were $19 each, a bit pricey but that's Detroit for you now. Overall based on this experience I would come back here again to see a concert. read more

One of my favorite artists recently came to Detroit on his tour and had a show at The Fillmore. It's a beautiful historic building! Old staircases and crown molding. The standing room was beautiful hardwood floors (that I assume are original) The drink selection was pretty good but very pricey. I had a spicy margarita that was really good but also was $24 for middle self tequila. The other disappointing part was you could buy bottled or tap water- they only serve liquid death. All of the staff I encountered were super nice and helpful. I would definitely return for another concert! read more

Treated VIP ticket holders like cattle for hours on a freezing windy rainy day, the lobby is empty, the marquee area (out of the wind ) empty. They forced VIP to stand across the street on an opposing block (WHY?) in front of a bank and the bank whined about us being there-the venue should take care of those who fund their events in a kinder manner. Last show I will ever attend there out of principle. read more

Beautiful concert venue with a ton of art and vintage decor everywhere. I liked how cozy it still felt even though its super historic looking. The only thing I guess I could say I didn't like is that its standing room only for the lower level and the security guard was so strict on standing past the line smh. Also, sean paul came out 2 hours late and that pissed me off but thats not the fillmore's fault (I hope not anyway). I like this place more than little caesars arena and will be back to see someone else hopefully again before the end of the year. read more

The Fillmore is such a historic venue in downtown Detroit and is probably my personal favorite event space! They are super organized, host a variety of events (concerts, comedy shows, etc.), and are a good mid-sized venue that still makes your events feel intimate, while also feeling a ton of camaraderie with fellow attendees. I believe the capacity is around 5,000 people. I love that the main floor has "steps" to it, which helps to give you multiple spots on the main floor to stand where you could still get a good view, especially if you're short like me! I also love that the balcony above doesn't seem too far so you'll still feel close to the stage even up there! The decor of the Fillmore is also so fun, I don't know why they're there, but the two knight status bracketing either side of the stage gaze proudly upon the audience at every event and I love seeing them there! Every event I've gone to at the Fillmore has been spectacular and I always get excited when I see people and groups that I want to see performing here! To many more events at the Fillmore! read more

What a great place to see a show - get the tickets at one of the tables! Real seats and a place to put your drink - by far the most comfortable seating option of any of the local theaters. Even the regular seats have little tables near them so you don't have to hold your drink the whole time. I will say that they struggled with the lighting and sound last night. Some direction was needed from the band and there were a few feedback situations; one that was particularly bad and very loud in between the last song and the encore lasting the entire time the band was offstage. Not ideal. Getting is was super fast, the lines at the bars was easy to get through, and there was no waiting in the Comerica parking garage when we left. Very smooth. I'd go out of my way to see another show here for sure. read more

Dope location. The architecture is old victorian style. The seat were mad comfortable. I originally thought that it was a standing venue only but I was pleasantly surprised by the seating. We went to see Chöle perform. I won some tickets, wasn't a huge fan but I wanted to experience the Filmore and who turns down free tickets. The performance was nice. The acoustics are very good. There's multiple bars on each level so the line flow very well. Overall I had a good experience and would recommend visiting. read more

Lost my id at a concert, called and they said yes we have it! Would you like us to mail it or do you want to come pick it up? I asked that they please mail it and they said okay. 3 weeks later and still no ID. I was trying to be patient with the holidays so I called again to see if they had mailed it and was informed at that time that they "just hand it off to usps and that process could take weeks." I am very upset as I was not informed of this the first time I called. I was told it was going to be "mailed to me" not handed off to usps right before Christmas for them to figure out and mail. I love that a venue would check bags for drugs or weapons, thank you for that. However I did bring a clear bag and the man who looked through my bag didn't just check it to make sure l didn't have any weapons...he inspected EVERY SINGLE ITEM one by one. He took out my mascara and looked it over, my lip gloss and looked it over, my floss and looked it over, my hair comb, my TAMPONS one by one and looked at them. I mean how unsanitary is that? Not to mention it just felt violating having every single thing in my purse be taken out one by one to be inspected and touched by a stranger with dirty ass hands in front of strangers. I felt like a criminal. It made me so unsettled that I couldn't even enjoy the concert. Just way too overboard. The venue itself is very beautiful. This review is directed towards the disgusting security that The Fillmore employed during the night of the Bazzi concert on November 4, 2022 starting at 7pm. The night was marred by a series of deeply troubling incidents that revealed a shocking level of unprofessionalism and racial profiling by the security staff. This review is a reflection of the utter disappointment and frustration we felt due to the unacceptable treatment we endured at what should have been a wonderful event. From the moment we arrived at The Fillmore, we were met with hostility. We were excited to see Bazzi perform, and as we approached the venue, we noticed the security presence was quite intense. While we understand the need for security at large events, the behavior of the security guards was overbearing and uncalled for. As we waited in line to enter, the security personnel yelled at us repeatedly. Their tone was aggressive and demeaning, making us feel like we were doing something wrong simply by being there. This was our first indication that the night might not go as planned. The entry process was chaotic and poorly managed. The security guards barked orders at the crowd with little regard for basic human decency. There was no clear direction or organization, and it felt as though the security staff were more interested in exerting their authority than ensuring a smooth and safe entry for concert-goers. The rude and condescending manner in which we were treated was not only unprofessional but also unnecessary. Once inside, things did not improve. It quickly became apparent that we were being singled out by security. Every time we moved, it felt like we were being watched. When we attempted to use the bathroom, a basic necessity, we were followed by security guards. This level of scrutiny was not only uncomfortable but also humiliating. We were there to enjoy a concert, not to be treated like the Uighurs. The constant surveillance made it impossible to relax and enjoy the event. When I confronted the hideous security guards about it, they simply rolled their eyes at me and continued following us around. What was most disturbing about this experience was the clear racial profiling that was taking place. It was obvious that the security staff were targeting us because of our race. We observed other concert-goers who were not subjected to the same level of scrutiny or hostility. This blatant discrimination is unacceptable in any context, let alone at a public event where everyone should feel welcome and safe. The Fillmore's security team should be trained to treat all guests with respect and dignity, regardless of their race or ethnicity. The oppressive and discriminatory behavior of the security team overshadowed the performance and left us feeling angry and disheartened. This was supposed to be a night of enjoyment, but instead, it turned into a distressing experience that none of us will forget for all the wrong reasons. To make matters worse, when we tried to address our concerns with the management, we were met with indifference. Our complaints were brushed off, and it was clear that they had no interest in addressing the issues we raised. This lack of accountability and refusal to acknowledge the problem only added to our frustration. It is disheartening to see a well-known venue like The Fillmore disregard the valid concerns of its patrons. No wonder why nobody wants to live in Detroit. The treatment we received at The Fillmore was not only unacceptable but also indicative of a deeper problem regarding the rotten and filthy minds that these disgusting and vile security guards have. The Fillmore needs to take a hard look at its security policies and training procedures to ensure that all guests are treated fairly and respectfully. Our experience at The Fillmore was a complete disappointment. The unprofessional and discriminatory behavior of the security staff ruined what should have been a memorable night. I strongly urge The Fillmore to take immediate steps to address these issues and ensure that no other guests have to endure the same treatment. Until then, I cannot recommend this venue to anyone and will certainly not be returning. If you value being treated with respect and dignity, I would advise you to steer clear of The Fillmore Detroit. There are plenty of other venues in the area that understand the importance of customer service and do not engage in discriminatory practices. Our night was ruined by the behavior of the security staff, and it is a shame that such a well-known venue allows this kind of conduct to continue. The security guards working here made me want to puke all over them from how nauseous I was from their repugnant behavior. They should be ashamed of themselves as their behavior is taking us back to the 1830s, as Taylor Swift once said. read more

Pros:The building is beautiful, seats were comfortable. Cons: Service, Staff, Bathrooms Service- It could be ran so much better. It was raining and the line was wrapped around the building. (except this unless you purchase fast lane) The workers were doing a good job managing the line and selling wristbands for those drinking. However, at no point did they inform us that umbrellas were not allowed inside the Venue. Their website says that large umbrellas are not allowed so, I brought a small one with me. Their website says they have a merch check. When I inquired about that-The guy said nope. I had to leave my designer umbrella which was a gift in a pile of umbrellas on the floor and hope for the best. After the concert, that area was unmanned and concert goers were digging through a pile of umbrellas trying to find theirs. It was a messy, unpleasant experience. Fortunately, I got my umbrella back (it was at the bottom of the pile). But, it tainted the whole experience for me. There was not enough staff available to direct you to your seat. You were pretty much on your own. Bathrooms- are tiny , mostly clean but not checked regularly. There was not any toilet tissue in one of the stalls. Kind of a big deal when there are only 3. This was my first time there - not sure I will return. read more

Plenty of parking nearby, all paid- parking garage, street parking. Went there for the 90s music concert. They started really late, 2 hours. But they were good. The sound/acoustics was decent but not all that great. Entrance is off of Woodward and the line gets really long but moves super quick as the have several security check lines. They have multiple drink/bar also some snack bar both in main level and mezzanine. The restrooms are in the basement though. The box chairs were little less comfortable compared to the general admission chairs. Funny. I would like to go when the construction is done and for a better show. read more

Wish there were more restrooms, but since the venue is pretty intimate, what they do have works. The building's architect was C. Howard Crane, a prominent Detroit-area architect. The style is Renaissance Revival, and it is beautiful. The ornate decorative elements give the space a luxurious, posh ambiance. The space is multifunctional and is especially well suited to concerts. When you pay for a ticket to see an act at the Fillmore, you get part of your money's worth simply from the beauty of the space. read more

First off, this place will ALWAYS be the State Theater to me. It's literally chiseled into the side of the building along with the name of the architect, C. Howard Crane, and the year of completion, 1925. I've never been to the Fillmore in San Francisco, and I don't doubt it's a venerable place, but it's that one edifice in SF and renaming various venues around the country cheapens it as well, IMO. Rebranding and franchising are a bit out of control these days. Okay, semantics rant over. I have a lot of good memories of the State Theater. Monday Night at the movies in the early 90s with only the hippest films, Looney Tunes before the main feature and the balcony sporting that distinctive marijuana odor. Seeing Fugazi with the Make Up opening, all hopped up on Mini Thins. Ween playing one of their notoriously long sets in 2003. Going to see Methodman and Redman and having to leave the line in the front when I saw the pat down was so thorough they were going to find the blunt I stashed and hiding it in the abando down the block and blazing it after they show. They played a bunch of stuff from Redman's first album, too. So dope! I've been here twice of late, getting the whole backstage V. I. P. treatment when hanging with my homeys Easy Action, who were opening for Wayne Kramer's MC50 and rolling dolo up in the nosebleeds to see Elvis Costello. The nosebleeds here aren't too bad, really. It's a nice steep grade so you're more high up than far away. I saw Slayer from up there something like 3 years ago, too. The sound is usually pretty good here, though the guitar wasn't as prominent as it should have been for Elvis Costello. He played for a full 2 hours and 15 minutes, very impressive for a fellow his age, though Ween still has him beat. The building itself is absolutely gorgeous, impeccably restored. I'm sure other folks beside me got some pics on here to attest to that. The line at the front moves at a snail's pace, which is really a drag, especially if it's cold or rainy out, and it often is in Michigan. And the concessions leave something to be desired. My hot dog was puny, especially for the size of the bun, and my nacho chips were both thin and lacking in flavor. So the State whiffed on price, portions and flavor. So eat before you get here if you can. There's usually lots of barkeeps on duty and those lines move pretty quick, except in the upper balcony.
