A lovely setting, in The People's Park, near the waterfront of Dun Laoghaire. I do have to say, I think it was better years ago when there were more produce vendors and it was more of a farmers market. Now it is 90% prepared food stalls, a few artists, and only a couple of produce vendors. But the food is good and varied, with many ethnic goodies to try. There is an excellent cheese vendor (Irish cheeses are amazing!), a wood-fired Neopolitan pizza, and you are pretty close to the famous Teddy's of Dun Laoghaire ice cream shop to get your "99" fix. AH, MEMORIES: I remember one farmer was selling wine he made from his own grapes. Yes, Irish wine!!! Admittedly, the Sauvignon Blanc tasted like grape juice, but I still have the empty bottle with a lovely hand-colored label. My Mom had her first ever raw oyster (from Galway) here. I almost had to force it down her throat, but she loved it. The vendor no longer comes here, but every year when I visit her in Ireland we have to go out for some great Irish oysters. But she still eats only one!

There's always a great mix of people around the place, a really relaxed atmosphere and, the cherry on top for me, it's right beside the sea! The food selection here is great, you can find anything from Indian to Japanese and everything in between! The last time I was here I got an Italian-style Gourmet Sausage and a freshly made doughnut, both of which were absolutely delicious. We did have to queue for quite a while but it's so pleasant out here that nobody seems to mind. I could talk about this place all day but I'll only make myself hungry. We were running out of time on our hunt to find them when I realized, 'I've got my trusty guidebook!!' And that's how we ended up here. It was 12 Euros for 6 oysters and a glass of wine. Since there were four of us, the lady was nice enough to give us 4 cups of wine (yes, plastic cups - it's a farmer's market, what do you expect!) They even threw in an extra oyster! SO FRESH! SO BIG! (cue that's-what-she-said joke). Compared to NYC oysters, these babies looked like they were on steroids! They also have this dipping sauce (had onions and was really vinegar-y, but good. But if you don't like the sour, you should just take the oyster straight.) Didn't eat anything else from other stands because we just had lunch. However, I believe they had shish kebabs, crepes, and bread. Oh and FYI - Sheridans Cheesemongers was there (saw this place on Anthony Bourdain when he went to Dublin so thought this might be worth mentioning). Definitely check out this farmer's market!

St Annes Park and a backdrop of a fabulous red brick building. The veg stall looked well stocked. There was more than one baked goods stall, of which the fare was well presented. The obligatory olives stand. Hand made jewelry. The highlights for me:- Sheridans Cheesemongers; we were able to sample everything we were interested in and bought three cheeses as a result! Free parking The doggies tied up outside the market gate all looking anxiously for their ownsers return. Lowlight:- I got an americano from the coffee stall just inside the gate which tasted awful. I should have followed my gut and left the queue when I saw the milk steamer on the machine was not cleaned after each use, a habit like this is big no-no. It's not just restricted to food though, there are some cracking bookstalls and a few craft ones too. This is where I discovered Paulo Coelho, I'm in debt. Now, to business. Traditionally there are three days a year in which Dun Laoghaire stops hovering on the verge of crap and makes the great leap forward into being the greatest place in the world. The Festival of World Cultures, although it's just two days this year(29/30th Aug), is the best weekend in Dublin. Sun, sea, hippies, pints and banging samba drums all for free(except pints of course, but where there's a will...). It's pure awesome, and the Park is one of the festivals main hubs. Love it.

It boasts some cute little tearooms and one of the few Sunday farmers markets on the southside (though I'm open to correction on this one). There's a mellow buzz in the air during the market and even if you're not hungry, you're sure to snack on some of the fudge, falafel or fruit that the traders have to offer before leaving. Tends to be happy families in here on a sunny Sunday and there is often some impromptu entertainment in the offing too. It's picturesque and nautically themed with a boat overflowing with flowers at the entrance.

Spoke to one of the fellas who informed me its been running for over 25 years, and was in its day the first organic market in Dublin. In terms of quality, all on offer seemed phenomenal and what I got (some veg, organic dried stuffs, coffee and a jug o' raw milk from the butcher/milkman) was, at least, impeccable. In terms of "ambiance" a guy on a stage at the back of the room was playing music (folklore?) and families and strollers and the rest of what seemed like a jovial community was circulating inbetween the stalls, snacking and browsing. Great experience and, I think, I am a jovial regular to-be.
