I used to come here often when I lived in Glenview. Moved away just before Covid and hadn't been here since. Needed some gear for a trip to Michigan and spent a couple hundred dollars. I was shocked at the lack of any attention or decent customer service. Seemed like about 5 young guys working and not one person asked if I needed any help. All remained behind the counter. Came by around 6pm on a Wednesday the other week and it was pretty busy surprisingly enough. I'm still really new to fishing so there was a lot to see so it was very overwhelming to me. One of the older gentleman came by and asked if I had any questions and of course I asked a ton. He was super helpful and if he didn't have the answer, he asked his other co workers and even the owner came by to explain a few things. Okay, so let me preface this by saying I don't know much about fishing. That's a lie, I know nothing about fishing, but I still had a great experience shopping here. I came in to buy a gift, and asked for some help in picking out a fishing lure/bait for ice fishing. Jim was very helpful in explaining the different types and after noticing I taking a while to decide, came over again to help me pick something out. They also have a 20 yard archery lane that I can't wait to come back and try. It's $5 to book for 30 minutes and $5 to rent the bow/arrows, which is very inexpensive compared to other places. I think he had also mentioned that they have even had birthday parties before. As far as I could tell prices were decent and overall it's a great local place with friendly & helpful staff! read more

Been going to this place for 20+ years. It was called something else for most of that time but the service here has stayed the same ... Fantastic. Every time I walk in here I'm in awe. If you need it, they got it. I pass up several other places that sell live bait. So why do I go here? Well whether I'm fishing that same day or three weeks after the purchase I know the worms I bought will be alive. I cant say the same for Big-Box or other such stores. Staff is very knowledgeable. Don't know where to fish, they'll steer you to a spot. Know where your fishing, they'll let you know what the fish are biting on. Newbie? Show up with your I.D. and $50.00 (low end gear mind you) and in a half hour your walking out everything to begin fishing; license, tackle, gear, an idea of where to go, and a wee bit of knowledge. My buddy and I went to Fishtech this weekend to load up on supplies before joining a bigger group in the boundary waters for a fishing trip. We are both novice fishermen at best, so we were pretty overwhelmed once we walked in -- this is a legit store, with something for every type of fisherman/fish. Right away, one of the guys working there asked us if we needed help, then proceeded to walk us from section to section, answering our questions (without making us feel dumb!) and helping us to pick out the right type of gear. He was also price conscious, helping us to avoid the things that were unnecessarily expensive or for pros. They also threw the line on our rods for free, which was a nice touch at the end. My first time there was really one to remember. I was looking for a new rod for salmon fishing, but unfortunately most were gone. Instead of brushing me off, Doug the associate there helped me with all my questions and even shared some of his great stories. He was more than helpful and really went above and beyond. The prices are about the same as big box stores, but the selection of tackle is incredible and their knowledge and willingness to share is unmatched. Definitely a classic fishing store around the area. Great for live bait, can be pricey on hard and soft artificial baits competing with Bass Pro and Dick's but I like to support them.
