One of our grand-darlings is starting off her softball career this week, and being a good GP-unit, we decided to gift her a pair of cleats to get her off to a good start. Less than a week after purchase, my son's new Croc broke when the strap came out of the shoe and tore the shoe. Given that it was less than a week old, we didn't think twice about going back to the store to return what appeared to be a defective shoe. Our last pair was purchased at Nordstrom and at the time we were wondering if there was a different line sold at Nordstrom that was more reliable since his last pair lasted at least a year. We went to the store to make the return and the store manager, Gil, happened to be the person to help us. When we asked to return the shoes, we were almost immediately confronted with claims that the shoes couldn't be a week old due to the wear on the soles. Gil got another pair of shoes and showed us and claimed that the wear on our shoes was not possible within a week. We asserted that the shoes were less than a week old. He insisted the wear was not possible in that timeframe. It certainly is. He showed another associate, who would've reported into him and asked "this wear looks significant, right?" I don't think I'd disagree with my boss and the associate did not disagree. When Gil was looking at the bottom of our shoe, he then asserted "These shoes are made in Indonesia, the ones we sell are made in China". We noticed the pair of shoes he brought up showed that the shoe was made in India, not China. He didn't change his demeanor once he saw the shoe he brought up was not made in China. Gil then insisted that the strap was ripped out and that was not a defect. He then showed the action of someone intentionally ripping a strap out of a shoe to damage it. He continued that the return policy clearly stated that any returns must be in like new condition and re-sellable and that was clear as day in the policy. I looked at the return policy on the receipt, and I said the return policy says returns accepted within 90 days, nothing about being re-sellable and in like new condition. He re-asserted that it was not a "defect" and that the strap was "ripped" out of the shoe. My son wore the shoe for less than a week. He did not intentionally rip anything. Gil eventually agreed to do an exchange, but was unwilling to allow us to make a return. Still trying to "win" and treat us like we were committing fraud. We are regular customers, we did not try to defraud anyone. We have bought a lot from Dicks over the years and this one experience has completely turned us off of the company. All over a $40 pair of shoes. Went here to buy a bike, the one I chose had flat tires, loose seat, loose brakes.. just asked for those couple things to be adjusted so I could take it on a quick test ride.. employee was low key rude and I had to ask multiple times for it to be done correctly, he seemed irritated and just wanted to go on lunch break. Tried to sell my boyfriend on some maintenance plan for like $100 while the bike had flat tires and loose brakes and whatever.. I was like first of all why talk to him about it? He's literally just here with me along for the errand, I'm the one making the several hundred dollar purchase and it's for me... so after I said that he starts trying to sell it to me instead and I'm like..wanting to laugh like no way brother, it's not even a functional bike now as we speak on the literal first day I'm buying it why would I want to take it here for repairs? Whenever I find myself at Dicks Sporting Goods, I always seem to come away disappointed. I have been to this location a few times, but the last I was there it just left a bad taste in my mouth. Yes, they have a good selection of sporting goods. If you play a sport and need equipment, then yes, this is the place for you. They have all the balls, bats, weights, etc. that anyone could ever what. They also sell shoelaces l, which, for some reason seem oddly hard to find. Also, the value of their products seems just so-so. The prices seem ok, but not cheap, just ok. The real issue is service. The reason for my most recent visit was to try to replace a broken glasses case. About just over a a year ago, I a purchased a pair of Oakley sunglasses at a this Dick's location. I even purchased the insurance policy. Recently, the pull on the zipper of the glasses case broke off. I went to this location to see if I could get a new case. I tried to inquired with a cashier, and he seemed to want to help me, but he seems lost as how what to do. A woman who seemed like a manager step up and abruptly told me that there was nothing they could do. I asked if they had any extra cases, but without checking she just said no. I asked if my insurance policy might apply and if I could make a claim, without checking she just said no. I understand that that she might ultimately not be able to help me, but at least make an effort to in look into helping me rather dismiss my concerns out of hand. read more

My 16 year old went to buy a present on Friday around 7pm and they wouldn't let her in. What crazy policy is that?

The protection plan for their equipment is a complete mess. One signs up for it by activation via a text. Then to "return"something you need to call a number on the protection plan card to activate a shipping label being sent to you - then you need to go to a UPS and ship your item in a box to the Dicks return location - and they then send you a gift card to cover the cost of the returned item. This place is great. Out of all of the other locations nearby, I can confidently say that this store is the best. The location is by far the largest compared to the other locations. The store is very clean and well organized as well. This store has by far the best selection of shoes. They have many brands and different types, and you can find many pairs. The staff are helpful and show you around the place as well. The prices are pretty reasonable compared to other sport stores. Some things might get a bit pricy, but the quality is top notch and unmatched. Overall a very well put together location with a large selection of high quality items, all at a fairly reasonable price. read more

Not the cheapest place to shop but if your looking for any item - they'll have it here. Football, Volleyball, baseball, stuff and Chicago Bears clothing, it's all here. It's amazing how much sports stuff can be under one roof. It's a huge store and they seem to pack a lot of merchandise into each aisle. It's a bit roomier on the second floor, where they carry a lot of Columbia and North Face jackets, which is sweet. FYI, they're phasing out their ammunition, I guess they're conceding to BassPro shops. Tons of parking and other choices within Village Crossing mall. Take a deep breathe as you try to exit the mall, the parking lot configuration has frustrated many shoppers over the years. read more

Prices are high but that's to be expected here for example I bought a came back hydration backpack that I love, I paid about $55-60 for it but it's fair.They have everything you need and more. The staff is great and very helpful, their shoe section is always up to date (even better than some shoe stores), their warranties are awesome and make sense, I just love this store to the point where I am not allowed to shop here without the wife because I spend too much alone. Truth some things they don't always have everything in stock. Still very good store and has many good items for baseball, football, soccer, or even fishing. But what an incredibly perfect curbside pickup experience at their Niles location! We ordered a weight set that we were unsure would fit in our car. A whole team of masked associates came out with our set within a minute of letting them know we had arrived, and they quickly fit everything into our car. They were done within minutes of our arrival. Very friendly, asked if we had any questions or needed anything else. What a great way to shop!! The store is organized and the parking lot is plentiful. If you shop there a lot then you can sign up for a frequent card where you can earn points. Their cleaning policies make you feel very safe! I bought my bike at Dick's with a waranty. A year later gave bike to fix. They said they would look at it right away. A week later I'm calling every day - can't get thru to the bike dept- for a full week. Finally they tell me has not been looked at yet- after a full week. They tell me it will be looked at today. 48hrs later -still didn't hear from them. I don't know if I'll ever see my bike again. (and it was expensive) read more

Huge store but not super helpful staff from what I've encountered. It's a great place to go if you're trying to get really popular stuff - running shorts, college football hoodies, tents for camping, stuff like that. If you need specifics though I've had a rough time finding them here and the staff hasn't been too knowledgeable either, like arm bands that hold your phone while running or exercising. They also used to have a wider variety of cold weather workout gear and I feel a lot of variety got phased out for more space for the few biggest brands out there. For a store with this much space I never thought I'd leave empty handed but I've had to a few times. read more

Terrible experience with a totally "placebo" kiosk system that associates do not actually tend to. I went in to Dick's Sporting Goods to get a pair of shoes for my son. After some browsing, we found a pair that he liked, and we fulfilled a request on their kiosk to try on a pair in a specific size. After about 10 minutes of observing other floor associates assisting new coming customers with their requests, I had to inquire with a floor associate regarding the status of our request. The associate told us he will "check on it", and disappeared into the back room. After about 5 minutes, he went to the front of the store and never came back. I asked another floor associate if they could help with our request, meanwhile they are all taking care of orders of customers that have came in after us. After another 10 minutes of waiting, we finally were able to try on the pair of shoes (which by the way, we were only able to try on one of the shoes, not both). When we ready to purchase, the associates seemingly scrambled back and forth for another 5 minutes trying to find the other shoe for our size, and could not find it. He apologized turn off and walked to the back . None of the associates offer to order the shoes online for us, or check to see if another store had it.. I'd like to say its because they were to busy but I would be lying. Kiosk in the shoe dept. Only work if the employees are trained and supervised properly and evidently the associates on this day either ignore training or were not trained and supervised properly . Shame on the store manager if you don't put a stop to this . I've been a loyal customer for more then 12 years and have never Experienced this kind of service. I purchased my very expensive Shwinn Riverwalk last year.Glad I got extra warranty . Twice I have taken this bike to Dick's for repairs - same issue. Few weeks ago before my vacation they fixed, or so it seems - my bike. To my surprise I did not even pedal 2 miles from my lake house on the first day of my holiday ,when the same thing happens . I was in the middle of nowhere and had to walk along my Shwinn for the 2 miles. I could not use that bike for the next 10 days of my vacation. So I bring it again to the store and nothing happens for 5 weeks. Constant calling - 2,3 times a week to find out the progress and nothing. All I hear is, it will be ready in a few days, it is on the stand and it is being work on ...... So BE AWARE ! In total my bike has been out for service repairs for 2 months. I called to inquire about getting the flat tire on my bike fixed. This happened to me before in 2005, I bought an inner tube and tried to do it myself but couldn't. I just brought my bike in and the bike specialist did it for free on the spot. Flash forward years later, I wasn't expecting the same great service, but I called to inquire about when their bike specialist would be in. After repeated calls with no one answering during store hours, someone picked up and told me I was transferred to the wrong department, and she was unable to transfer me to the correct department. The automated system transferred me to her in the first place. I walked in to check if they still had a bike specialist and there were clear prices on all the services that were offered. I've only had good experiences with this store. It's out of my way and it happened to have a bike I was eyeing come back in stock. I went in store to check out the bike but nothing was outside so probably not assembled yet. I was greeted after a while. The bike guy was busy talking to another employee and adjusting a bike she just bought. I just stood there and waited. Went home and I placed an order for pickup and immediately got a call from the store explaining that the bike was in stock and it needed to be assembled but that particular brand shipped to the store with broken parts so they might cancel my order. I really appreciated the heads up. I got an alert for ready order pick up. Went to the store on a busy weekend day. Test the bike in store and it sounded scratchy so they suggested going upstairs to have the bike tech look at it. They were pretty busy and there was a line. I waited a while and maybe half an hour later I was tired and said I can just order it from a different location (another one popped up in stock). I orderd from the South Loop and get an email a few minutes later saying the bike was unavailable and my order canceled. Great job with your inventory South Loop. The bike tech, Nathan I think, insisted I stay and he said I was next. He seemed to know what he was doing because the other techs kept asking him questions. He adjusted my bike and let me go (without giving me his name, I heard another bike tech tell the person to mention his name so he would get credit). Also explained what the scratching might be while I scratched my head in confusion. I took the bike home and finally got to ride it a week later. The damn thing was squeaking, like a low grade constant fart. I took it to my closest location and they refused a refund, said I signed something and no exchanges or refunds but I could have their location's bike tech look at it. After waiting a half hour to have to bike tech at that location come over and spend 5 mins adjusting it, I bike home and still hear the noise. I come back a second time and wait another half an hour to because the employee forgets about me. I push a call button and he comes back to tell me the bike tech left. He goes on to tell me to just enjoy the bike and they are backlogged with repairs, bikes are hard to find now with Covid. They usually charge for repairs...blah blah blah. I'm thinking I paid more than $400 for a bike that farts the entire time? I give up and go home. I decided to call this location, the original and talk to a manager. I explain the entire situation and he offers to make an exception and take the return nearly a month later! I don't want to say his name because I'm not sure if he would get in trouble. But I really appreciate his keep the customer happy attitude. I just prefer the employees at this location. read more

I'd never been to this location before, but was relieved to learn they were carry a large variety for sporting goods. I was looking for something specific dumbbell weights, and they had many options. If I wasn't in a hurry, I may have shopped longer for other things. They had a great variety of sports items. I encountered the friendliest sale associate very helpful, personable and very knowledgeable. They know how to explain properly the items. They guided me on a different weighing equipment and gave me a reasonable price. It was very customer oriented. Things are a bit expensive, but quality is good. Issues with the delivery company below that Dicks contracts with and should re-evaluate. As far as Dicks is concerned, it was pulling teeth to give them $2k for a new exercise machine. Shouldn't be surprised that they contract with a terrible delivery company. Still waiting for delivery. Originally scheduled for May 11, we didn't find out till after the delivery window via email that we were rescheduled without a call or any notice. We called and were told someone would reach out by Monday close of business to reschedule. Call never came. Sent a follow up email that Wednesday and got a response two days later saying they would submit for scheduling. It's now 5 days since then. I followed up again and was told again that they've submitted for scheduling. Still nothing. Frankly, this may be the worst company we've ever had to deal with in any way shape or form. Which is sad because there are a lot of not so great companies out there. We've been waiting on our $2k order from Dicks for almost three weeks at this point. read more

Let me start by saying I'm a pretty laid back patient person. I've worked in customer service type positions for over a decade so I'm probably more patient than most. I came here on a Friday in the afternoon. I came to this location because I was interested in specific running shoes. I had my mind made up on the shoes I wanted and just wanted fo try them on to figure out the best size and which color I wanted. I had every intention to buy and would have with better service and maybe a little guidance or feedback from an employee/sales associate. After trying on the first pair I told the associate they felt big and he suggested a half size up and brought a bigger size out. Apparently he wasn't listening, fine. Asked him for a half size down and eventually got it. I also asked to try on some different shoes and he did bring out the right sizes requested for those. I wanted one pair of shoes they did not have the size and color in and the associate referred me to another location. I'm just surprised there wasn't any initiative to offer another option for me to order and pick up from this location at another date or something. In the middle of trying on the shoes he was pulled away to help with another project and I had no idea when he'd be back or if he was ever coming back. While waiting, another associate helped me briefly and then disappeared. I was very frustrated at the poor service and left without purchasing anything. The only upside of this visit was that now I know what size shoe to order online. I will just remember to keep my expectations of service VERY low next time (if there is a next time). Normally I am a self sufficient shopper and believe me if it was allowed, I would have went in the back and got the shoes myself and been a happy camper. read more

If I was able to give a zero star I would. I purchased a rowing machine and paid for delivery. I stayed home from work to receive it between 11a-2p. The delivery time came and went. I called the third-party delivery service and they insist that the delivery window they were provided is 4-7 pm. I called Dick's and they insist the window was 11a-2p. My paperwork says 11a-2p. One of them is not being honest and neither company will stand by their obligation to satisfy the customer. Dick's refused to provide me assistance or refund the delivery fee while still having the product delivered. Dick's customer service told me I had to get a refund from the delivery service. I explained that I had already spoken with the delivery service who insisted they had a different window and they didn't change the delivery window. I have never received such poor customer service. There are other recreation/sports stores as well as online providers to patronize. I would avoid Dick's. They don't care about their customers. read more

I needed a kayak today, and had looked into getting used but when I saw your selection online and decided to go with new. I was going to rent from REI at Ping Tom Park, but it was $40 for a half day. I was a bit hesitant going with a big retailer, so checked a number of used sources, and other new ones, but Dick's was the best option. What really made my experience excellent was the superb help that Joe provided. I don't know much about kayaks (other than I've been a few times and almost died by drowning and then, avoided that, by extreme hypothermia) in a fjord in Iceland so wanted something stable) and asked Joe for help. He was amazing, really knowledgeable and professional, but also personal and great to work with. I walked out a little later with a kayak, paddle, and pfd, very excited to be hitting the south branch of the Chicago River in Pilsen, the old Bubbly Creek portion of meat packing days, and more currently an urban oasis surrounded by coal fired power plants (thankfully now defunct) and industry. Any retail experience is only as good as the help, and Joe was fantastic. Hope you give that guy a raise! read more

It also has abundant merchandise--name brands, house brands, etc. It's tough to walk through the store and not find things that you would like to buy. From soccer cleats, to camping gear, to athletic bras, to swim trunks, to snow pants, to gravity-defying chaise lounges, we've bought countless great products, sometimes even at good sale prices. To the management of Dicks Sporting Goods - Headquarters division. Close this store down or fire every person that works here and start over! I shopped here since it was Galyans and the people that worked there were awesome. Since you bought it and changed the name, the store sucks. That's not a personal opinion, Galyans had fantastic ratings and the store was PACKED with customers. Why? Good Customer Service because employees were paid a small commission - so they gave good customer service. I used to spend thousands of dollars in that store every year - now, over the past 5 years, I bet I have spent less than $200. That's $50 per year vs $1,000 + You have no one in the hunting/fishing area - ever!!!! I have repeatedly watched others wait for 15 min or more for a person to help them. I have personally waited 10 minutes to get help and then the person is clueless! There used to be 3 people constantly working, selling equipment, knives, guns, shotguns, rifles etc. Now - there is NO ONE helping in that department because you've run off all the outdoor sportsmen. So there is no one at your store!!!!!! Don't you compare Galyans sales from 2002, 2003, 2004 to 10 years later as Dicks Sporting Goods? Jesus Christ, how did you get big enough to buy Galyans when your management sucks, your business model sucks and your stores suck? Fire everyone!!! You are a sorry excuse for a store and your management team is full of incompetent asses. Your store is a cautionary tale of what happens when a cheap big store buys a really good niche store for billions and then ruins it.
