I'm not going to focus too much on the gym in this review as this isn't what I've primarily been doing here. I'd much rather say a few words on the Kickboxing classes because it might be helpful for the people who've never been to a kickboxing lesson or who might be interested in trying it.
So, first of all, the gym itself is very clean and everyone is super friendly. I've never seen it get too crowded (I usually go on Tuesdays after 7pm and on Saturdays after 9am). Machines are clean, there's water, paper towels in case you want to clean the machines or your face after an intense workout.
Now, for the best part: the kickboxing classes. First of all, Jorge, the trainer, is awesome. He's super helpful in providing pieces of advice here and there, and he does a great job of identifying flaws in your posture, in your form, and helps you correct them. Whenever you need help with anything, don't hesitate to ask.
The lesson itself lasts an hour and consists of roughly 25-30min warmup (which is already a great workout in itself, you're gonna be doing pushups, abs, lunges, squats, and so on. This is a full-body workout/warmup to get you ready for the intense part: the kicking and punching.)
After that, we start kicking and punching with the gloves and pads provided (protip: if you're serious about it: buy your own gloves, I find it cool to wear my special ones). Pairs are often created, trying to roughly match people of the same physical shape/size. Jabs, crosses, hooks, uppercuts, elbows.. roundhouse kicks, sidekicks, frontkicks, and so on will be teached to you by Jorge. He's always making sure that no one gets hurt and that everybody has good form. There's a punching bag where you can practice as well, giving you freedom to push yourself hard as the bag is not going to be easily harmed :).
My biggest advice for those who consider kickboxing classes is to not give up after the first lesson: the warmups/workouts gets easier, the kicks aren't as awkward as the first time you do them, and so on. You'll always feel amazing after a session, because you're gonna be proud of having pushed yourself that much. At least try it a few times imo :)
I can only finish by saying that it's amazing how much I'm looking forward to those lessons on the day they're happening or the day before. I'm eager to practice all the time now, thanks to Jorge. Sparring with him has just been crazy awesome. read more
