The owner encouraged me to come in straight away, explaining that once he saw the dress he could give me a quote and let me know if it could be completed before my flight. From the moment I met him, he was warm and welcoming. He immediately put me at ease during what was quite a stressful situation, and I felt confident that my dress was in experienced hands. When I tried the dress on, I honestly wasn't optimistic. It fit terribly around the bust and I couldn't imagine how it could ever look flattering. Within minutes, using just a few pins, he completely transformed the fit. I could suddenly see the beautiful dress I'd hoped I'd bought! The workmanship was exceptional. Satin is notoriously difficult to alter, but every change was beautifully executed and completely invisible. The dress now fits as though it was custom made for me. What impressed me even more was his professionalism and attention to detail. He had the dress finished two days before my flight, giving us time for any final adjustments if needed. Thankfully, none were necessary because the fit was absolutely perfect. During our conversation, I learned he has over 40 years of tailoring experience, and it certainly shows. I was also pleasantly surprised by how fair and honest his pricing was. I felt the cost was extremely reasonable and represented excellent value for the quality of workmanship. The tone and behavior came across as outright misogynistic, which is both shocking and unacceptable in this day and age. I had two dresses that needed work - one that needed a zipper replacement (except I wanted to replace the zipper with a heavier one and make it visible as opposed to invisible) and one that was way too large in the bust. I say all this because I think there's some complexity to what needed done, as opposed to a simpler "this needs hemming". The first dress was done with no issue, looks great, once I communicated what I wanted they had the exact right hardware and it's sewn wonderfully. The second dress - I have no idea what magical elixir the tailor was drinking but it fits perfectly. The straps are the right length and the bust now fits me instead of someone 2-3 cup sizes larger. I am SO pleased with these results (priced very well also) and will continue to bring clothes here. He said no problem, come back at the end of the day. $10 I picked up my garment for 5 stitches. The hole wasn't even closed, nor did he try to hide the stitches. Each stitch was 2 to 3 cm job. I feel like even myself can do a better job, and I'm not a professional. The tear originally can fit my 4 fingers wide. It was returned still 4 fingers wide, but spaced out. I asked for him to do a better job. It felt like he just poke more holes and pulled some material out. Told me my material is bad. Don't bother to fix it. If only he said this before he inspected it, and took a job he couldn't be bother to do. Bad service, bad job I wouldn't come back.

The price was also very reasonable! $60 for hemming a multi layered gown and taking in the shoulders (and he even pressed it for me as a complimentary service). Compare this to the $50 at Stitch It in the mall that I paid about 7 years ago, to hem a cheap polyester dress! This shop will now be my go-to in the area for alterations and dry cleaning.

After reading the positive reviews, I decided to give this place a try. When I arrived, the tailor spoke at length about his experience and the places he had worked around the world. The price quoted was $75 plus tax, which is higher than what other tailors had offered, but I decided to proceed based on his confidence and self-presentation. I requested a sleeve shortening and specifically asked for the stitching to match the original. When I picked up the coat, I was disappointed. The sleeve stitching was not straight and did not match the original style, which was surprising given the emphasis on his 20+ years of experience. Overall, my experience was not very positive, especially considering the higher price compared to other tailors.

My only issue with the dress, was that it was too long in the front. I asked to keep the dress long, but that I needed the front a bit shorter so I could walk without tripping. I had expected the altered result to look something like the second image. However, the dress came out with an added seam and unevenly long. The dress itself and the tail were now two different parts, and the dress flowed completely differently. Not to mention, despite the ends of the dress being trimmed, there was two added seams making something that looked like a belt pattern in the middle of the torso. Nothing was mentioned about this, and it looked terribly odd only in the front and with a backless dress. When visiting, the change rooms were dark and had almost no light, minus the light shining in from the other side of the curtain. I had brought in my dress 4 days before needing it. However, on the day of needing it, a few hours before I was supposed to pick it up, I was asked to come in again because he had forgotten to mark the dress. I trusted Silk Tailor with a dress I had genuinely loved so much, and had needed for an important event, and now I'm left with a dress I feel ashamed to wear to such a special occasion.
