Hidy Ochiai Karate stood out above them all! Their classes go beyond the regular karate classes that other martial arts places provide. Here, they also do Kobudo which we learned is the use of ancient weapons! Trust me, your kids will go bonkers for this class!! It's taught in an extremely safe way, but still makes the kids feel like ninja superstars! I kind of want to take it myself :D Our daughter also did the summer camp this past summer and she loved it! She came home with real calligraphy paintings! Another thing that pushes them to the top is that they have Master Hidy Ochiai himself who comes down from New York to do special teachings with the kids each month. Look him up on YouTube and watch him slice an apple on someone's neck .... wait for it .... blindfolded! His skills are incredible and he is incredible with the kids as well. This school is in no competition with any other Martial Arts place because it's THAT good! I want to write a novel on here, lol, but I won't. Just one last thing to note: Sensei Winkler himself is AHmazing with the kids too. The way he talks and interacts with the kids makes them listen and have fun. I've sat and watched him a number of times when my daughter is in class. He's structured and fun, which is exactly what my daughter needs! Sensei Winkler is an incredible teacher because he has a lifetime of experience and many trophies from national Championship tournaments! They truly care about the students and the instruction really focuses on the whole childe, not just the movements. Austin is encouraged to utilize the Rules of Discipline and Rules of Manners in his world outside of the dojang. In addition if you are looking for a fun filled summer or holiday camp I highly recommend! The camp program is incredibly enriching and adventurous. If you don't have patience to work with children, then it's in the community's best interest if you find a different profession. I don't know a single healthy parent who supports teachers yelling at their child. Having a firm tone is one thing, but an emotionally charged scream is more than just disrespectful. My daughters taekwondo master is in the business of building confidence... not destroying a kids self esteem.

At that age, it's hard to imagine a child sticking with something consistently . . . but he absolutely LOVES it. Coach Mohammed Dajani is truly exceptional. He is not just an instructor, he is a role model. His patience, discipline, warmth, and ability to connect with young children is remarkable. He knows how to push them just enough while building them up at the same time. After school pickup by DYMA was incredibly helpful for us since we both worked and couldn't make it to school in time to pick them up. We weren't even really interested in Taekwondo but as our boys began to progress in their lessons, it became really important to us and to them as we saw their self-confidence grow and their excitement for it. We stopped going to DYMA after school when COVID shut everything down but decided to start going again for Taekwondo about a year ago (didn't need after school anymore) and we have been very impressed with the quality of instruction, the rapid progression of our kids, the care and concern of Grandmaster Jo and Director Jin for the well-being and development of our children. The owners of DYMA and the staff truly care about our children like their own and it is so helpful as parents to have other good people who care so deeply about our kids. A bus is offered to pick up our children and take them to Enshin, which in itself is relief enough, but the care they get once they're there makes us extremely happy to have Enshin in our lives. Even my kindergartener picked up the routine extremely quickly. The kids get a snack after school, can do homework or play games to decompress. Before it is time for parents to pick up, classes are held. I was happy to find out that children who attend the after-school program have the ability to progress through their belts just as someone who attended an evening class would. The first few weeks were difficult for my daughter, who was just getting used to not taking naps and now additional physical activity was thrown into the mix, but she survived and now acclimated to the change in schedule. My children have also attended one of their camps for days where the school is closed and they couldn't have been happier. They were excited to go, happy to be there when I was dropping them up, and wanted to stay more once I got there. Is there more a parent could ask for? I don't think so. The price is only slightly higher than Fairfax County SACC for two children but when you factor in that this is both childcare and a sports activity, it far surpasses SACC in value. You can sign-up for a yearly or month-to-month contract. The yearly contract gives you the best rates for days where schools are closed. It is also great to know that they pick up the children at the required time for early releases, scheduled or unscheduled caused by weather. I know my children are happy and safe with Enshin, and I'm happy with Enshin.

Atmosphere is great and the instructors seem to care a lot. They've got great covid protocols and they don't stuff so many kids in a class. Also, since parents can't stay to watch, they set up a Zoom session for each class so you can watch from your computer or phone. I also love that you're not tied down to a schedule. Every week you can decide which class you want your kids to attend. For example, there's a beginners class scheduled for everyday that starts at 5:30 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays and 4:50 on Tuesday and Thursdays. You get to choose which ones to attend. Sessions last 40 minutes, twice a week. Overall I highly recommend!
