We enrolled our son in martial arts classes a few months ago, and the transformation has been incredible. I have had my two children enrolled in TopKick's afterschool program for 3 years and now take Tae Kwon Do classes there myself. My experience has been positive all the way around. I highly recommend TopKick for both their afterschool program as well as their traditional martial arts classes. I feel that the staff teaches discipline, respect and fosters an upbeat positive attitude. I do not look at TopKick as a day care facility as it clearly states on their store front that they are a tae kwon do studio. I think they provide a structured, fun atmosphere that is a great option for afterschool care. I have met all the Kevins - they rock. I have personally met Mr. Kevin Cassidy and think he has built a great school, respectful staff and a nice family environment that I trust for my childrens care. I HIGHLY recommend!!! read more

Our son attended his 2 week trial at Topkick @Broadlands location. He enjoyed every minute of the training.We had to extend our trial period for different reasons, but staff were very supportive. Special mention to master Jeremy who is exceptional in training. He is patient, fun and knowledgeable. Class includes innovative fun games, challenges, exercises, martial arts and many more that help in building discipline and confidence. Its amazing to see how the staff takes time to know every kid by name and encourages them in every possible way. We definitely recommend this place. My experience at this facility was not satisfactory. The manager, Kevin Cassidy behaved unprofessionally, immature and was confrontational with me on more than one occasion. I complained to the owner only to find out it was his brother. I would not recommend this type of leader to others, much less my own young child's delicate growing mind. read more

They duped me into paying a non-refundable registration fee BEFORE allowing me to have a tour of the facility. But that's not the part that stinks..... Their idea of 'outside time' is letting kids play along a concrete alleyway that leads to oncoming traffic (accident waiting to happen). I didn't see ONE staff member outside supervising. The classrooms are filthy. The floors were heavily stained, and the room is over crowded with junk. Small children are forced to use the public/main restroom while the older kids have restrooms inside the classroom (seems backwards) You can't differentiate between staff/teachers and random people off the street because no one wears a uniform -- I wasn't sure who to address upon walking into the building. The issue I struggled with the most is their lack of organization. Parents are forced to put their credit card information on a sheet of paper (for weekly account withdraws) that is kept in a folder out in the open at the front desk. (shouldn't that be under lock and key?) Lastly, I voiced my concern with the office manager and she gave me nothing but attitude. I returned the next day to make sure I wasn't over exaggerating about my initial visit, and the manager looked at me and said 'it's the same as it was yesterday.' That was all the confirmation I needed to ask for my paperwork back and enroll my son elsewhere. Don't waste your time or money.

There was a lot of waiting-in-line-for-your-turn (didn't experience this at G-Force, Stingrays) and it often felt like the instructor was more interested in chatting with the students and getting them to laugh at his jokes vs teaching them skills. Some staff - high school students - were clearly not ready to be instructors. Jess is fantastic and my child learned a lot from her, but one teacher cannot an entire tumbling program make and we couldn't always get into her classes. We ended up moving to a program with a greater number of strong instructors who focused on clean form and consistent progression. There are better options in Ashburn.

If this child was my own, I would seek to remove the double nose pierced woman who was in a caregiver position. Martial Artists understand everything is energy. If you don't have patience to work with children, then it's in the community's best interest if you find a different profession. I don't know a single healthy parent who supports teachers yelling at their child. Having a firm tone is one thing, but an emotionally charged scream is more than just disrespectful. My daughters taekwondo master is in the business of building confidence... not destroying a kids self esteem.

One day, I get a phone call from them, 2 hours before the school day ends, saying they will not be able to pick up my son from school. Very "reliable" school!!!!

It definitely required a lot more upper body strength than I gave a credit for, but once you actually climb a little and get in the air, it's so fun. Our instructor was incredibly strong and showed us a number of moves in our short amount of time together. She was overall good vibes and made the entire experience really enjoyable and approachable. My husband surprised me for Christmas for an intro silks class. When we walked up to the door, I…read morewas excited but also quite intimidated! I think silks are so cool and am always so mesmerized watching silks shows at the Renn Faire. But it looks so hard that I doubted I could do any of it! The class was an hour long and our instructor was very friendly and helpful. She explained proper form and how to get into the different poses, that I actually ended up flipping upside down and successfully getting into each of the different poses she taught us! More than that, it was SO much fun. I'm so thankful for her patience and teaching style.
