My family has had an amazing experience with Enshin Karate. My two children are in Kindergarten and in First Grade, and both attend the after school program offered. A bus is offered to pick up our children and take them to Enshin, which in itself is relief enough, but the care they get once they're there makes us extremely happy to have Enshin in our lives. Even my kindergartener picked up the routine extremely quickly. The kids get a snack after school, can do homework or play games to decompress. Before it is time for parents to pick up, classes are held. I was happy to find out that children who attend the after-school program have the ability to progress through their belts just as someone who attended an evening class would. The first few weeks were difficult for my daughter, who was just getting used to not taking naps and now additional physical activity was thrown into the mix, but she survived and now acclimated to the change in schedule. My children have also attended one of their camps for days where the school is closed and they couldn't have been happier. They were excited to go, happy to be there when I was dropping them up, and wanted to stay more once I got there. Is there more a parent could ask for? I don't think so. The price is only slightly higher than Fairfax County SACC for two children but when you factor in that this is both childcare and a sports activity, it far surpasses SACC in value. You can sign-up for a yearly or month-to-month contract. The yearly contract gives you the best rates for days where schools are closed. It is also great to know that they pick up the children at the required time for early releases, scheduled or unscheduled caused by weather. Be very careful when you give your credit card to these people, they keep on charging even if you don't attend classes and never return your money back. I informed them in person that my kids won't be taking classes for 3 months, still they charged for 3 months as one time payment and with in 2 months they charged for one more. Our son has been taking Karate classes at Enshin (Falls Church), as well as attending after-school care, and the multiple camps - summer, holiday and "snow camps" for 3 years now. We cannot express how positively this experience has impacted his life. The introduction to karate taught him very important life lessons, such as focus, character, dedication, honor, etc. During after/school care, he gets scheduled homework time, a karate lesson and then his favorite "games". Summer camp involves a different field trip almost daily, keeping the summer anything but boring, as well as continuing karate lessons each day. Finally, I think one of my favorite services provided by Enshin is the camps offered when Fairfax County schools are closed. They have saved our work days, and the work days of many of our friends with these camps, especially on "snow days". While there may be nominal charge, in addition to the regular monthly fee, it is definitely cheaper than a babysitter, - if you can even find one last minute on a snowy morning!!! Terrible. Read your agreement well before you sign up and don't do auto pay. If you do watch your charges. Even if you cancel it they are still charging. We register for 3 months and they charged us continuously for 9 months even tough we told the to cancel it verbally to owner. He said okay instead of telling us go online and send email. They credited me some after dealing with them for more than 45 days back and forth. However they still owe me $210 and they are not refunding. Original 3 months I agreed to pay was $420 What a headache and not honest business practices. read more

Some random facts: - They have separate classes for younger children, older children, teenagers, and adults. - Classes meet twice during weekdays, once during weekends (3 times per week). - They offer free one-week trials. - They offer more than Karate classes there; I see signs for MMA, Muay Thai, and Fitness training. I'm not sure about the details of these programs though. - They have an after-school program including pick-up. Sensei Nima is great with kids! My first offspring started 2+ years ago, second offspring almost one year ago. They still enjoy it. The youngest kids do games at the end of each class, which is what initially drew my kids into it. Now mine are older and in different classes, so it's more "serious", but still a lot of fun for them. They just recently moved/renovated their dojo into a very nice section of the (same) shopping center, with beautiful big windows letting lots of light in (I love natural lighting). Parking can get iffy sometimes (why oh why do folks insist on parking in the through-area, *getting out of their cars*, and *standing around*?! Grrr). read more

I came into this place a complete newbie, so I don't really have much to compare it to. That being said, I spent a good amount of time taking the Muay Thai classes here, and I have only good things to say. The instructors are all great, and they do an excellent job accommodating all skill levels while still ensuring everyone gets the most out of the class. If you want to move up toward competition they can help you reach that goal, but if you just want a great, fun workout they can help you with that too. Unfortunately, I had to drop out due to other responsibilities, but I'll always look back on my time here fondly. A while after leaving, I noticed a small error on my billing. I sent them an email, and they had it corrected immediately. These are guys who take customer service almost as seriously as they take fighting. It's a little thing, but these days it's refreshing to deal with a business who holds itself to such a high standard. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. The staff is amazing, very caring and conscientious. My son has been going here for more than a year in the after-school program and he also attends summer camp here. He particularly loves coming here to play the games, which are very physically active and fun; and he is progressing well in Karate. He also seems much more disciplined at school and at home. I love that he is learning important life and social skills as well as self-defense strategies. Once a month Enshin offers a parent's night out, which is wonderful: lots of fun activities and they provide dinner. My son looks forward to it for days and raves about how much fun he always has there. I am a huge fan and I expect my son will be coming here for many more years. Quality has been rising again :) kids are excited about going to their after school program and the program has improved to the point where I feel comfortable saying that if it isn't as good as last year, it is better. Thanks for listening to me and for trying hard to improve the establishment, and thank you for allowing the staff to do a better job with the gifts they naturally own. ***** Update on my review: I received a personal rude email from the owner and instead of giving me any sort of apology, she implied my review was a slander that had the intention to harm her business in the future, which is the worst way to handle a customer service problem. I believe my review below is more than accurate, specially after she personally offended me on my personal email. The staff is very friendly and I would recommend this place for after school as for any camps if it wasn't for the fact that the costumer service is one of the worst I've ever had. The most recent one being the fact that they are charging parents (who already paid for the entire week of after school program) an extra $60 per child per day for the "winter/snow" camp. As a parent of two and already paying a monthly tuition this is beyond ridiculous. They stuff the place with more children than the staff can support, won't give the necessary homework attention to your children unless you are a crying parent like me, and the karate level has dropped so much I regret signing a yearly contract (which you can't get off EVER). Was good in 2015 first semester, has gone downhill for the year of 2015-2016. I would research better places if you are actually paying the child care out of pocket like me. read more

My kids attended the Enshin summer camp for many years, my son is still in the evening kids class, and I do the adult karate class. The summer camp has a great variety of activities every day - not just karate! And almost everything is included in the price. The instructors are knowledgeable and patient. My kids have gained confidence, fitness, and discipline, as well as just having a lot of fun. The adult class provides a good workout while teaching valuable skills. We used their afterschool program for 2 years and liked it! They pick up from several neighborhood schools with their own small buses. Kids have a snack and homework time, then attend a karate class each day. It's better for older school kids, as the younger ones might find it to be too much karate and might get very tired by the time you come to pick them up. Staff seems to be responsive to criticism and if you bring up issues, they will be addressed. They also offer snow day camps when schools are closed, but that gets pretty expensive ($60/day extra on top of your monthly tuition). School break camps and summer camp are convenient and mostly fun for kids - daily filed trips to the park, laser tag, chuck e cheese's, bowling etc help kids not get bored from staying in the dojo everyday. On rainy days they watch movies projected onto ceiling while laying down on the mats - offering a bit of relaxation to the busy kids' lives. Just remember to speak up if your child is having issues while there and they will make every effort to fix the problem. Karate itself is not what we expected, kind of more of a game than real sport. They don't really push the kids to work hard on their karate skills to be competitive and lots of playing around is going on during class. My kid was very young when he attended so I didn't mind it too much. But if your child is seriously into karate, you might not be very happy with this. Our family has been involved with Enshin Karate for the last six years (after-school, summer and winter camp, evening classes, parents' nights out, and adult classes), so I feel I can speak knowledgeably about their programs. The quality of interaction between staff and students has always been wonderful. The environment is very supportive for students of all ages and ability levels. One learns so much more than karate there--confidence, discipline, respect, cooperation, conflict resolution. I had a different after-school situation than most families, as my children attend a school that is out of boundary for the pick-up option. It wasn't always convenient to drive, but the quality of the program made the sacrifice worth it. I have seen my children (and myself) grow in confidence and self-control as they continue in the art. The few minor concerns we've had over the years were met with compassion and immediate attention. I have always felt like a welcome part of the children's learning process and appreciate the open communication-- there is an email newsletter that keeps you up-to-date on the curriculum and staff are always available to address your questions or concerns.
