I just wanted to set the record straight because I have had business owners in the past message me all upset and whatnot. If you've never taken archery lessons before, swing through...this place was A-OK. I thought I was going to have to add the listing to Yelp, but someone did 9 hours prior...small world. And they also used a Groupon. I was originally going to go to the Staten Island based Groupon archery offering since it was 1/2 as much, but since I would have had to pay the toll to get to S.I, I figured it evened out. For 30 minutes, me and the one other guy taking the intro course learned about the methods and safety of archery. And then we put arrows into things for a little under an hour. We got about 4 rounds in I believe and were alternating on the 4 target course (narrow room on the second floor of some building) with a family of 4 who were obviously members and obviously practiced...they were on some Katniss and Legolas type ish. I feel confident picking up a bow and arrow now. Learned a lot from Q and Tyler. Q provided the archery lecture and it felt like a James Bond movie...you know when Q explains the gadgets to Bond. Except our Q was a woman. With a 99.9% safety rating. Ask her where that .1% went. I went to the 12 PM lesson on a weekday and I think the preceding lessons were packed or so I overheard. So I'm glad I chose the first lesson. It's why I chose the first lesson. Next up, fencing! And then ninjitsu.

We were…read morea large group (at least 20), and the instructors did a nice job staggering our group with safety instructions and prep while a set of tots were taking aim at the targets. Overall, it was a cool experience. We were buddied up and I paired with my friend, who immediately pigeonholed himself as troublemaker/class clown. He got some special attention from the staff and I received a couple of demerits for not following instructions (I'm oblivious, not insubordinate). Yes, friends, I had two of my arrows removed from my quiver at one point, but I couldn't really blame them as I had ample warning. Once I earned my way back into good standing, the arrows were returned. Shooting was fun and pretty straightforward after a few tries. My only criticism is that they should spend a little less time on the prep and let us loose sooner with the bows (time flies pretty quickly when you're shooting arrows). But I get why they over-prepare with the safety lessons.

NYC Urban does not take player health seriously. League did not do anything serious as far as getting information on the incident, despite someone named Mike even promising to call me back. Over a month (and one surgery) later, I have yet to receive a call. League office will give you lip service but doesn't actually want to follow up on anything if it means more work for them to do. Referees in this league will consistently ignore calls and even basic stuff (like cleaning wet surfaces) if it means they can get home earlier. League rules aren't consistent or actually enforced; my team filled with many beginners had to go against experienced players from a higher division multiple times. When I told a league official of this, they simply shrugged their shoulders. Scorekeepers often gave points to the wrong players. All in all, the title might say "professionals," but this league is anything but that. For your own safety, and sanity, avoid giving them your money.

Management here seems to have no interest in fixing anything. I emailed management about all of this and received zero reply. I wouldn't consider enrolling in a camp or other longer term class here until management gets their act together. 1. The vertical/magnetic teaching chess board used in classroom on ground level (used for the adult classes) absolutely must have the grid labeled. It was ridiculous that the instructor was rattling off squares (e.g. e5,d6, etc.) and expecting a beginner class to know exactly where to look. For goodness sakes, label the grid "a,b,c,d..." and "1,2,3,4..." like on a tournament chess board. 3. Have a check-in process for your tournaments and only match up players that have actually arrived. Several players (including my son) at a tournament just sat there during round 1 and did nothing because they were matched matched against no-shows instead of each other. We didn't pay the $40 entry fee to be in a tournament run so poorly. 3. Their website is outdated and doesn't describe current class offerings.

She runs the wheelchair tournaments which is a big event for the participants and the tennis center. Pickleball is available with dedicated courts. The location is also convenient with plenty of parking and a comfortable seating area to: watch your little ones play, catch up on homework or to just relax.

We recently participated in a tennis tournament here, and unfortunately it was the most…read moredisappointing and unfair experiences we've ever had in tennis. My son was completely cheated out of a match that we paid for. The line judge consistently favored his opponent. When my son challenged calls, they were almost always ruled against him. When his opponent challenged calls, they were routinely given in his favor. The inconsistency was blatant. What made this even more concerning was that at the very beginning of the match, my son's opponent was walking side-by-side with the line judge, talking to him and even touching him. It was very clear they knew each other and that the opponent likely attends the school. That alone created the appearance of bias and the officiating only reinforced it. After the match, I asked the line judge to explain some of the calls. He had no reasoning and admitted he did not even see at least one of the balls he ruled on. That is unacceptable in a paid tournament setting. To make matters worse, the front desk was extremely uncooperative. At the conclusion of the match, the front desk staff member even escalated the situation by asking both players if there was "outside interference from parents," despite already having spoken to us, the adults. It was an attempt to shift blame rather than address the clear officiating issue. We understand that calls can be missed, that's part of sports. What is not acceptable is consistent bias and a complete lack of accountability. We expect fairness and professionalism when paying for organized competition. That absolutely was not the case here.
