First, the pros about Fitness First in general:
--your membership allows you to access all of the gyms in the Sydney area (outside of the platinum gyms). I've got one near my apartment, two near work in the CBD and like that I can gym with friends in different neighborhoods without having to pay extra.
--new ownership & a commitment to redo the gyms-- when I first joined about a year ago, I was shocked by the pricetag I paid and the quality of the machines. They've since redone both of the primary gyms that I go to -- now all of the treadmills have TV screens, there are new weights, etc. I feel like I am getting much more of a value here
--the ZONE! (which deserves a separate review all its own!)-- LOVE that they've turned an underperforming club in the CBD into a center that focuses on high intensity 30 minute classes. These seriously kick your ass and again, you can use the Zone without having to pay extra.
And the cons:
--No towels, or toiletries in the ladies room. I'm sorry, but having to pay an extra $3 for a towel each time I come is a bit ridiculous-- the towels aren't even nice and I'm guessing they make about $2.70 profit on each one. It also wouldn't kill them to have a tub of cheap lotion and some cheap shampoo/conditioner in the bathroom. Paying close to $100 each month and not having any of this makes you wonder where the money is going
--Class times-- I hear they're working on this but most people I know need to have a class finish before 8 am and needs to start AFTER 5:30-- would love to see more classes on the weekend as well!
Overall I think the best bang for your buck with gym memberships in Sydney, but still not great! read more
