Just moved nearby.. called to get prices, wouldn't tell me over the phone. So I walked down to find the prices in person and the receptionist calls some guys (guess the owner or a salesman) and he tells me the prices over the phone. Hmmm. So here's a picture of the prices that she put out on the desk after I hung up with the salesman.. interesting customer service tactic. I finally decided to start working out and visit the gym again after several months because the pandemic situation, but it's very disappointing to me that during my cardio, the cleaning lady comes with all her tools to clean during ppl are working out. She's in in front of me right now vacuuming and all the dust obviously is in the whole area. I have lots of allergies specially for dust. I had to leave the gym and skip my workout because that situation made me very mad really. We are in a very serious times right now regarding the pandemia and this lady is spreading all the bacteria's with her vacuum. I understand that is not her fault, she's just following instructions. But managers and owner of this gym; please, be more conscious regarding this pandemia and try to clean the gym while is closed not when people is working out. Worst experience with the manager... they were charging me while the Covid situation was occurring and they were closed. I had lost my card. Since I thought they were closed I didn't think of calling. Now they are charging me a $20 Dollar fee. I would've have kept my membership just because the location is convenient for me... but she was rude and obnoxious. I do not recommend going there. You get what you pay for. It's cheap. I got the two-year membership it seems really dirty and rundown but the essentials to get a workout in are there. One less star because there is not a "dance studio" or any real space to stretch, do yoga or anything like that. A small area with mirrors the size of a closet. Another less star because they are not open 24/7. I work crazy hours and have not utilized my website as much as I'd like to. I would get off work at 11pm or midnight wanting to blowoff some steam but they are closed. My big thing is the hours. I wish they were accessible 24/7. The gym itself functions like any other, but it is managed very poorly. I had to move after being laid off and left the county without cancelling my membership. When I called to cancel, a woman told me that I couldn't cancel over the phone and that she would call me back. She never did, I stopped getting charged, only to receive a letter a few months later that I owed $80 in late fees! To cancel, all they need is a written letter saying I want to cancel. Why they can't do that over the phone is beyond me. Why I have to pay $80 when their employees failed me is unfair. Do yourself a favor and pick a better gym. Okay, so as a bodybuilder and heavy gym user I have to say this gym could be much better and I wish I had the resources to do it! Sooo much potential. About 60% of the machines regularly work and another 20% have kinks. Some of the stuff in here is ancient, and some is new. The free weights and plate weighted machines are fine and they seem to fix the cable machines quickly. it's not always clean or well lit and so many things could be fixed but it has PLENTY OF STUFF, this place is much bigger than you think it is. I never ever wait for machines. All in all, I'm just so grateful to work out somewhere without all of the petty drama that IB fitness had and somewhere that actually has things like a pec deck lol. for $30 a month this gym is totally usable and no one is going to bother you. read more

Equipment that was never kept up, talking to people at the front made it quickly obvious that it was a waste of time to even mention it. Kept at it for two years, no one ever listened. Missing parts, using electrical tape to patch seats. I finally cancelled, only to have them keep charging me. Even after proving to them that I had cancelled, they refused to return what they had overcharged. It might be cheap, but they will treat you awful some day when you need to cancel. read more

I've been going to Fitness World for almost 2 years now. The environment at this gym is amazing. There is no ego lifters or people hogging up machines while on their phones for a whole hour, the people are friendly and helpful, as well as the staff. This gym is not like a commercial gym where trainers will try to sell you on "plans" or bug you on buying on unnecessary items. People leaving bad reviews expect the gym to be like a commercial gym. For the low payments each month with machines where you put in the work, beats the prices at commercial gyms with highly assisted machines. Best gym I've been to. Plus the old school vibe is awesome. To all the bad reviews ignore them , they are looking for a commercial gym they can take selfies and wait on a squat rack for 20 mimutes between sets , no knowledge or love for lifting weights . So I came for an experience. I got myself a trainer who trains like a legend with legends. Easy to find him. Alan Mariano. Aka superman. He knows what he's doing and I love going to fitness world because there aren't wannabes or rude people. Everyone in the staff are helpful. Communicate to you if and when you need something. Zero stars! This is the most horrible gym I've been to, not only do they close their locations without prior notice but also charged the members for the following month regardless if they canceled, the gym did not exist and they were still getting charged. People that did not get a chance to cancel were referred to the IB location, and were charged on a monthly base even if it not their choice. Made members pay cancellations fees and were told could only do that in person at the IB location. As to my personal experience with this gym, I decided to keep my membership and went to the IB location, first things you could notice was this location was very dirty, restrooms and showers did not work, the equipment is old, extremely outdated. Went for a few months did not like it couldn't get use to the idea of working at such dirty gym with everything broken, they brought a few machines from the two other locations they closed down. I went in and spoke with the receptionist about canceling my membership filed the paperwork and thought It was done. I had changed my bank accounts within those days and they asked me to pay $60 in fees due to cancellation and asked me to provided a blank check to process my cancelation. I thought it was strange since it was going to be a one Time payment for the "fees" however at this point I was tired of this gym and the poor service they provided so I did as they asked, they told me it was done, my membership was cancelled. On July of 2019, I realized that they were still charging me the monthly fee, it has been exactly 12 months since I been to that location and they were charging me monthly. I called in and spoke with deedee, their receptionist who transfer me to a lady who claims to have been working there for 15 years, and straight up told me it was my fault for not noticing the charges on my statements, I explained that I don't check every transaction made in autopay, and the only reason why I noticed was because it was a monthly charge under "check". She stated that it was my fault and she couldn't do anything about it, to go to the gym within 2 days to cancel my membership again or they were going to charge me for the month of August as well. I went to the gym cancelled my membership and the receptionist told me that she could see that I did canceled my membership but was Renew on July with a check. I explained the situation to her and she advice me to call the lady who's in charges of the accounts again to get a refund on those 12 months I did not go to the gym. She advice me to keep track of dates because they had a lot of issues in the last when the other locations closed down with members getting charged without their consent. I called again asked to get transfer, the lady over the phone who refused to give her name told me straight up again that it wasn't her problem and that they won't refund me even if I had canceled my membership last year. That to her when I brought in my check, as they had requested to process the "cancelation fees", it was interpreted as renewing my membership. I explained to her multiple times the situation that the only reason I had brought the check was because they requested the last payment to be made like that since they weren't accepting debit cards anymore. She was extremely rude, didn't let me talk didn't let me explain the situation, she went as far as to tell me that is not her responsibility if I had canceled and renew and that if I didn't use the gym during that year it was my fault and she couldn't force me to go. I told her that I had signed up for a new gym last July and it didn't make sense at all, she made it very clear that she didn't care for my complain, the fraud they had committed on renewing my membership without my consent. She said that the owner wouldn't care either and that they won't refund me anything and that there was absolutely nothing I could do, that they were keeping my money. This woman was yelling over the phone talking about how great the gym Is and how she's been working there for 15 years and they never have any issues, to which I responded, I'm sure your business is blooming with 2 out of your 3 locations closing down within months apart and a ton of complains from the members about the same issues. There is a serious problem with the upper management of this establishment, they clearly need to have better phone etiquette and more professionalism. The gym itself is not good, very old equipment, very dirty, management is a joke, the only pro this gym has is that is empty at all times, any day any time, you will see this place empty. This gym happens to be less than half a mile from where i live, so it would be convient. The problem is how the gym treats perspective customers. In order to inquire about pricing you are instructed to fill out a small information card and then are directed to a separate private room to speak to Paul, the manager. This process in itself makes no sense because the pricing is listed on a piece of paper in said room. How hard is it to give out prices when they are a mere 10 ft away? Anyway, Paul does not have the best customer service skills and kept trying to talk me into getting a membership at the all women's fitness center they have in chula vista. He even went as far as to tell me I wouldn't be intimidated by men if I got a membership there - are you kidding me? The layout of the gym itself isn't bad, although the listed rules of the gym are pretty silly (some of them). I understand bringing your own towels but you cannot chew gum? All I know is this place turned me off quicker than a ice cold shower. Save your money and time people. read more

I wanted to join a gym close to home but I will be looking for another gym soon. Does this gym serve its purpose? Yes of course but the cleanliness of the facility makes me not want to work out here. It's cheap, cost me $50 down and $20 per month no contract after 3 months. It's never too busy and even though some machines seem outdated they work fine. I really dislike that unlike other gyms this one doesn't have disinfecting wipes for people to use... I'm not w germ freak trust me but I don't like using the same wet towel that everyone uses to clean all machines ... Just check this place out and notice the small details about it read more

The gym has a variety of machines and there's plenty of them so you don't have to wait a while to use them. There's also cables, free weights, barbells, Smith machines, squat racks and plenty of cardio machines. Another positive is that there's always parking space, but the lot is pretty small so be careful since there are a few big trucks there. But! Most of the machines are old and smell of BO, and some have rust on them. The cleaning lady only vacuums the padded floor (I don't even know why they vacuum?), not even disinfect or wipe the machines! There's barely any fresh air circulation, making germs grow in the gym. The bathrooms use cheap toilet paper and they use a hand dryer instead of paper towels, which we all know heat causes germs to grow = germs that make you sick!! Another annoying thing is that some of the users don't put their weights back, and there is no staff to check and de-rack everything, unlike other gyms. Even their own staff who worked out didn't re-rack their own weights! Also, membership card is cheaply made, just a piece of laminated paper that easily starts to peel after a few months usage, and they charge you if you forget your membership card!! The only reason I'd keep going to this gym despite all the negative traits would be because there's plenty of machines to choose from, despite the fact they are really old (hard to adjust settings) and smell, as well as the fact that the gym is only $10 a month, but you get what you pay for! Definitely looking for a new gym! ALSO, this place has THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! It's surprising as they depend on their customers for their income. read more

So this place. It's one of two real options for gyms in imperial beach. One is waaaaay overpriced, and this one is priced reasonably. There is a trade off, but barely. The overpriced one is slightly nicer, but smaller and has much less equipment. This one is a bit run down, the other one is ok. If you are looking for a nicer place to take selfies, go to the other one. If you want to work out around people that are smart enough to not be overcharged like crazy, go here. There is plenty of equipment, but it's not super new. It is more than adequate, however, and it's not like the other gym has super high end stuff anyways. I have nothing but bad things to say about this corporation which is also associated with women world fitness in which I was a member starting with the owner who does not care about the members. Who closed its doors at the Chula Vista location without informing any of the members,never received a phone call, text message or email. Which doesn't surprise me since he did the same thing back in 2009 which he closed his doors the same way. And still they have the nerve to tell you,that your membership will be transfer to this location, in which is unsanitized and have the same old machines that are a hazard to work out with.Not only that but they have the nerve to tell me , that they are charging the month of February because that's what my contract states. I asked to have my contract. And the front desk said they did not know when they would have it it could be in couple of months since it's in storage, so I had no option but to allow them to charge the month of February in order for me to cancel. Save your time and money, don't come here and give business to a place we're they don't care about there members and are just money hungry. The front desk has zero clientele skills in which they are all rude and act like they are doing you a favor. I'm appalled the way I was treated while the receptionist was yelling at me and the owner went to hide in his office.Continue this way and I'm pretty sure you'll be closing this facility as well. This gym is owned by the same delusional man who doesn't maintain his facilities. When they closed the chula gym, they still charged me and make you go to a completely different gym to cancel in person. When i went in to cancel he berated me saying that his gym is cheaper and better than any other. When I said it's too far he mumbled, rolled his eyes and walked away. this place is a complete rip off i went in signed my son up for one year the way the girl explained was 99 down that would cover the first year and 9.99 monthly after that she quickly had us sign the paperwork i asked multiple times about the membership fees and she confirmed the price a month later i get a notice that i didn't pay my monthly fee so i came in to talk to them she wasn't there her initials are KE they wouldn't tell me her name they never gave me a copy of the contract well now i know why im sure this isn't the first time they have straight out lied to get you to sign the contract ''KE"' purposely misrepresented to get the sale i had two witnesses with me who where present for the whole experience thank god i didn't have time to sign up all my family which was my intention close one. Needs a serious customer success team to flip this team. I've been active close to 2 years paid every month with no issues. However an ex employee that worked front desk made an error with the change of card on file for the monthly payment this was the first month I started. Today I went in to cancel my subscription I was denied to do so due to a balance of $40. I explained what happened, didn't matter asked for payment to stop , didn't matter. I moved here from San Francisco recently my husband is from the area his name is Carlos and he's been going to this gym since he was in high school only because of how close it was to his house. The first time I walked into this gym I knew it was trash. What made me more disappointed with that they continue to charge my card every month yet every time I went in there to work out there was always a problem. They had so many different people working at the front and nobody knew what they were doing. The gym can be quite uncomfortable because there are a lot of people walking around wearing practically nothing and taking selfie's. There's one older Hispanic female was stalking me and my husband which made me feel extremely uncomfortable...This gym is overpriced for the quality that you get because it is quite run down. More importantly the reason why am writing this review it because although there is the coronavirus going on right now and the gym has been closed for several weeks they are still charging all of their customers the regular monthly fees which isn't right. I got charge my regular fee today and I plan to dispute the transaction I advised everyone to contact their bank to stop payment it could be several months before the gym is even open again and people are struggling just to pay their bills. read more

This gym is the cheapest around. It isn't crawling with preteen boys who hog dumbbells, or with half dressed wanna be gymsgark models taking selfies. There are no Zumba classes here so you don't have to worry about the gym gym being taken over by those crowds. It's never packed, I've never waited for a rack or a bench, and they have literally every piece of equipment you could need for any body part. Hella dumbbells and easybars. Small padded/mirror area if your doing like a hiit workout or need to practice posing. Small supp shop in the building. Staff is nice :) they literally told this other guy, go ahead and workout, just pay us when ya can, when he came in and was behind a payment. Love this gym.
