Lacks any form of Cleanliness. The sauna was dirty (in the women's) and my husband said the males room was not clean. He described the shower saying: if you shower you are definitely catching something. It has stains everywhere. The women's room has never been swept or mopped. One of the showers is out of order. Lacks ventilation in there too, someone there told me they used to have a box fan. Owner, don't let the young kids run the biz you just bought into the ground. Here's a list you can give them: Clean mirrors with disinfectant. Clean sinks with disinfectant. Clean countertops with disinfectant. Sweep floors. Wash floors with soap and water add disinfectant. Dry mop. Wipe door handles with Lysol wipes. Scrub toilets with soap and rinse with hot water. Spot clean wall with disinfectant. Scrub and disinfect sauna with soap and water and scrubbers. Owner, give them the tools and supplies: Gloves, scrubbers, toilet scrubbers, disinfectant, broom, dustpan, mop, rags (plural). Easy. read more

I was really excited to support a local gym, but unfortunately, my experience was incredibly disappointing. Much of the equipment was outdated, broken, or dirty, which made it difficult to feel comfortable working out. I was also told I wasn't on autopay, only to have money withdrawn from my account the following month. I called and emailed about the issue, but never received any real follow-up--though the payments did eventually stop. It's a shame things turned out this way. If you try to get out of contract within the guidelines they'll send you over to their dogs over at McDevitt Law in North Carolina to harass you and cash in the last month pay. Leaving this review in reply to another made from a week prior. Rebecca, this one's for you. I'll start off by saying I've been at this gym for 4 years. During lockdown, this place was a life-saver for many in the community, mentally and physically. Marina will forever have my respect and support for being brave enough to be one of the few gyms that fought closing at every turn for her community. That said, this gym has a beautiful tight-knit family vibe and structure. Never crowded, great vibe, and you'll see the same faces working hard every day. We have a collection of some amazing men and women athletes, all of whom are helpful and supportive, I honestly can't think of a safer or more positive environment to achieve your fitness goals. What Rebecca did was not in line with any gym environment I can think of. Rebecca threatened to physically assault me in front of at least three individuals who can testify, including an employee. I would rate this gym zero stars if I could. I was a member here for several years before everything went downhill. The gym is in poor condition and lacks a cleaning staff, which led to me contracting ringworm twice. It's also overpriced and very disorganized. Given that it's located in a military neighborhood, the lack of care and respect for the families who are members here is appalling. I highly recommend checking out other gyms in the area--there are many new options available. read more

They said i need a doctors note but then i explained that we don't have health insurance and that we r suiting the person that rear ended us to pay for our $10,000 plus medical bills for that reason. I have been a member for 4 years. This gym has everything you need although a lot of it is old. There is a big setback though, there is there is no membership option where you can bring a guest. Every other gym has that option for cheaper. $60/m plus initial sign up fee. Their premium membership is $90/m and only additionally grants you access to the tanning beds and classes. I'd upgrade to a membership where I can bring a guest for sure. Im hoping they change this soon rather than just continue raising prices. But I'm not optimistic that they'll do that. I have a ton of buddies here so I'd rather stay. If I get the month free promo they're doing right now I'll use that haha. read more

I was initially warned NOT to attend this gym by a friend who said that she had a horrible experience with two male employees. When she complained to the owner she was shut down, dismissed, and the employees were favored. I love the people who go to this gym, and the layout. However, recent events have shown the sincerity of my friend's impression. I should've heeded her concerns. 2 weeks ago I worked out with someone I ran into at the gym. Someone I do not know well, who is a friend of a friend. Imagine my surprise to find out on Saturday, 04/03 that an employee who saw us workout that day took it upon herself to tell this friend of a friend's GIRLFRIEND that she should "look me up" on instagram. The drama that created was absolutely ridiculous. In an attempt to resolve this maturely, I communicated directly with the owner, Marina, with whom I'd already communicated prior. She said she would speak to the employee. The employee then proceeded to essentially lose it on my friend's friend, telling him he was "fing crazy" and making no attempt to apologize for her behavior, the drama she purposefully started, or anything else. After being informed of the things she was saying, I had no desire to speak to her. I worked out at the gym on 04/07, and was shocked while on the stair stepper to be physically and verbally confronted by this trainer, Jenn, who told me I needed ot talk to her NOW. I said no thank you I don't want to be involved anymore. She said "too late. You're a child, you went to my FRIEND (meaning the owner) and you need to grow the f up" - naturally I did not take kindly to being spoken to in this way, IN FRONT OF MEMBERS, in the middle of my workout, by someone who had slandered me for no good reason to begin with. My tone mounted and I said she needed to be more professional. I also asked her to leave me alone and not to talk to me again. She continued to sling accusations and call me names. I communicated about her behavior with the owner again after she eventually walked away. I was shaking and crying in the car. Imagine my shock when I then receive a dm from the owner saying she "needed to defend her staff" and that "she has staff who are now afraid of me" - keep in mind, this trainer is several inches taller than me, and is quite a bit stronger and more intimidating. I asked her to please review the tapes from that day because it is VERY obvious that I was aggressively approached against my will and the audio would show that she was slinging insults at me as a MEMBER. The fact this person wasn't terminated and I was asked not to return is absolutely ludicrous and a great demonstration of the lack of professionalism rumored to go around since the owner's ex husband stepped away from the business years ago. I will be filing a formal complaint and I will never encourage a single person to go here. I've been going there minding my own business for 6 months, worked out with someone ONE TIME, my name is in staff members mouths, i confront the owner asking for help to resolve, and then I have to leave. The freedom is great, they give you the option to go 24 hours even when they close, you have you OWN KEY TO GO TO THE GYM!! You could literally have drinks Friday night and then go workout post clubbing.. JK... but for real I've literally gone at 4 am when there's no one and opened with my own key, and just felt like a total bad ass. They got an amazing sauna where you can detox, they got tons of cool equipment for weights AND... they got a "CrossFit area" if you're a power lifter, they got a space JUST FOR YOU. The owner is amazing, she truly cares about what people needs. She got an assault runner, we told her we loved it, she got a second one!!! They got the coolest climber (idk what it's called but I know it burns ALL THE CALORIES). They also got tons of assault bikes, the ski machine. Everything. Now, coolest thing for parents?! They GOT DAY CARE!!! WHAT?! YES!! They got daycare certain days where kids literally do arts and crafts. Just unbelievable. This gym is a GEM. If you go there, you'll fall in love with it. For that, I raise the review from 2 to 3 stars. I appreciate the follow-up. ** I have to rate my experience with this gym during the past year from a few different perspectives: The most positive: As a place in which to get a workout, IB Fitness is fine. It is rough around the edges and definitely utilitarian but has plenty of equipment and is open most hours. Lots of bars and squat racks, and plenty of area to deadlift, squat, and perform basic power lifts. It's not expensive and I never had a poor experience while working out. The owner seems to genuinely care for her paying members. What's frustrating: the cancellation policy. We had exceeded the constraints imposed by our year-long contract and were continuing month-to-month. When we notified IB Fitness that we wanted to cancel, they informed us of the requirement of 30-day notice. Which makes sense; no big deal. But here is the crazy part: When we provided our 30-day notice, they canceled our access to the gym immediately. So they literally pulled $78 dollars out of my account and provided zero service in return. It's basically theft. In every other establishment in which I have ever had to provide 30 days notice before cancellation, I had access to the service throughout the duration of those 30 days. But not at IB Fitness. Seems shady. But, maybe I should have read the fine print. There aren't many gym options in my area of Imperial Beach. I was happy to have IB Fitness available while I was a member. I worked out there daily every single morning. So I guess in some sense, if you have no options, I can't say that I would not recommend it. Just be aware of the membership policy. Also be aware that there is definitely a military/thin blue line culture rampant in this gym. I'm a combat veteran and appreciate service and patriotism, but despise hive-mind, group-think of which there are symptoms prevalent here. The gym has very old, dirty, run down equipment, most of which has issues if it still is operational at all. With how much the membership is I can't imagine they can't invest a little more back into the gym. Where to START ... on Friday I called the gym and asked how do I cancel my membership the girl asked me my name and told me all you need to do is come in and sign a piece of paper. She said your last payment will be taken out on February 24 I said OK no problem today is February. 26 I walk in and I told the girl at the counter, I need to cancel my membership she said OK scan your card, which I did, and she begins to fill out a piece of paper, she, fills out a paper and tells me your last payment will be March 24. I said why we are in February I already called and talk to someone she told me all I needed to do was come in, and that is why I am here. Then she tells me you need to pay your March 24 payment I said what I don't understand... What's the issue? She walked away and went to get the manager after waiting 10 minutes a 6'3 man approaches me with aggression speaking to me like I'm his child or he's the principal and I'm a student he walks up to the front desk and says first of all, let me tell you how this conversation is going to go. There will be no yelling, no attitude no disrespect, no cussing or anything, I said OK as I'm looking at him confused cause I don't understand what he's talking about .. he said OK now I'm going to try to help you, then his next statement was you need to pay March 24 payment I said why we are in February he said because that's the way it is here I said I just called on Friday do you want to see my call log I was told to come down here and fill out a piece of paper and that February 24 would be my last payment. He said No I don't want to see your call log thank you we're done I said excuse me I said why are you so nasty I said you approach me with aggression he said leave now before I call the cops I said, call the cops as I was gathering my items off the counter I don't know why he's so angry maybe because all he is a gym manager well if you don't want to be a gym manager, then find another job. And then I asked you for your name because I said I was going to pray for you.. I believe you said your name was Brian lucas. It's a bit pricey, but it's perfect for military, and veterans. It is in fact a 24hr gym. You just have to go sign up during the daytime when the staff is there. If you are not yet a member you will not be able to go inside the gym when the staff is gone. They have a strict rule against letting people in the gym when it's locked. The staff is very friendly, and helpful. The gym is also rarely packed, which is great! I definitely like the vibe at this gym way more than Planet Fitness. read more

Pros: 1. Gym is nice. Owner has upgraded a lot of the equipment in the year I've been a member. 2. People are nice! 3. If you live in IB it's nice to have a gym close to you. Cons: Before you sign any contract READ, READ, READ it! 1. You'll most likely sign a year contract. If you're promised something make sure it is added to the contract "In Writing". I knew I was signing up for a year but a lot of people on yelp say they didn't know. 2. Once your year is up you'll be required to give a 30 day notice of cancellation by going in and signing a membership change form or by sending a 30 day written notice certified mail to their designated billing company. You'll pay for the 30 days even if your year is up. 3. Bill pay. If you don't pay your bill on the day payment is due you will be contacted multiple times by the gym to pay. 4-7 times each day you're late. This gym is excellent! I began working out here this week on a 3 day pass to test it out and will be signing up for a membership. Good good things: ORGANIZED It's a very well organized gym. All of the equipment is arranged in a way that makes sense. CLEAN Cleaner than most gyms that's for sure! CUSTOMER SERVICE The staff is friendly, personable and down to earth. EQUIPMENT They have everything you need from free weights, TRX/Suspension systems, cable systems, assisted machines, cardio (including a stair climber), Bosu balls and more AMENITIES Locker room is very clean for a gym (ladies lock room - I haven't been in the mens and don't plan on it lol). Lockers are even clean. There's a dry sauna in there, shower and even magazines. I would actually take a shower here. I've had pretty bad experiences in the past attempting to shower at gyms because people are pretty gross. I feel like this place attracts the type of people that they are and they seem to be pretty clean and organized. (Everyone seems to re-rack their weights. Thank goodness) TRAFFIC It's never really packed like other gyms I've been to... they mentioned there are usually more between around 5pm but still not too many to where you'll be waiting for machines PRICING They are about $10 - $20 more expensive than some other gym choices but it's really worth it for the cleanliness, organization and also knowing you won't be waiting around for a machine or equipment forever. Their plans are straight to the point. Either a 12-month commitment for one price or month-to-month for a slightly higher price. No hidden BS. HOURS 24/7 LOCATION They are in a shopping center just before the Strand. Plenty of parking though I've actually been walking 1.5 miles to this gym. I actually walk RIGHT PAST the "other" Imperial Beach gym that is closer to my house but this one is just a way better fit for me. WHAT ELSE? People are pretty friendly and focused. If you're looking for a CLEAN/ORGANIZED spot with everything you need for your fitness goals, I recommend this spot. The only thing that would make this gym better is a basketball court but that's only because I like to get my basketball cardio in immediately after workouts. No points deducted on their end for that. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! A+ Thanks for a great experience so far. Minuses: It's not a large chain so when I'm traveling, I can't depend on having a place to work out while away. Still excellent for a smaller, local gym. Other than that, I would say GREEN LIGHT. very bad management i have been trying to cancel my membership, i went in about a week ago spoke to a worker there signed some paperwork to cancel he said he would put it into the system once he could since they were doing some remodeling and he couldn't at the time he just told me to call to follow up on when my last payments would be. I LOOOVE Jen. What an amazing manager to take the time to talk with each member of my family who joined. She always stops to chat, to give encouragement when I feel like my progress is too slow, etc. I had joined in 12/2019 and when the world shut down, I'd assumed they had too. I paid in full all cash that year... never asked for a cent back because this is a small business, and the money was spent. When I rejoined a month ago they gave me a fabulous deal ( again 4 of us all cash for the year)... it honestly touched me. You aren't going to get that kind of treatment at a big box gym. Our FAMILY needed this deal to make it work, and we need to work out to get over some mental health issues our teen is going through. After being drained by her medical bills, I feel this is just the therapy she needs. My hubby and I need it to combat the stress her breakdown has caused. I have been a member here for almost 6 years. This gym isn't perfect, what gym is... if you are looking for a pristine gym with state of the art equipment and everything shiny and new, then it's probably not the gym for you. Here's what I do get when I come: a super supportive environment, functional equipment and space for all types of workouts, plenty of weights, barbells, accessory items and rigs, and no shortage of down to earth people I genuinely enjoy seeing in my day. I take the classes right now with Amy and Dylan and they are encouraging, knowledgeable and genuinely care about everyone's growth no matter what stage they are at in their fitness journey. I highly recommend you try them out. (For what it's worth I also absolutely adored Jen too.) I have only had one issue with a patron being disrespectful to me in the entire time I've gone there and when I brought the situation up to Marina she made it right. Doing the classes, I sweat hard, rip hands open, on the floor a lot and have never had an issue with skin infections or irritations because they do stay on top of cleanliness as best as possible. Ask to be on a month to month and was promised by word of mouth but instead they had other plans in mind for me. Didn't check my agreement till it was too late and found out I signed a year contract (Signed with a guy named josh who said he was co owner of the company. Turns out he was only a manager which moved to riverside) I got duped!!! 2. Haven't been an active member for almost two months because of other priorities and asked to if I could switch users from me to my husband. At first, little boy at the counter said changing names for membership is $25. Ok, I'm cool with that so he continues to do paperwork and suddenly gets called by "owner" which is working out to speak with her. He then returns and tells me that just to transfer name on account is $49 because of the billing company they go through. Price change gets me all hot and crazy. So then I'm already heated and angry at why it's soo damn much to just change names on my account. I leave before shit starts to escalate. 3. I come back two days later to do it again and ask if I can downgrade to using just the gym without the classes and childcare because that childcare room is a damn joke anyway. Damn near a cardboard box. Because there's nothing on the contract saying anything about downgrading. It's the same kid giving me attitude when I'm trying to keep my cool and not go off on him. I told him I'm done talking to him and to call the owner so I could speak directly to her. She then tells him she's busy with PAYROLL. After how many tries to get her to me she finally picked up her balls and dragged them over to me. I told her my concerns and she just wasn't having it. She really didn't care about her customers. 4. Being the unsatisfied customer I asked to cancel my membership but the ONLY way I could do that was if I moved 25 miles away from gym and pay a $120 or $150 to cancel but that's ($$) is not in the contract. Can't do anything so I just left. Now I'm stuck with paying this leech. Overall this gym "OWNER" is only there to collect $$ not for her customers that pays for her rent. What leech!!! I signed up for Crossfit at IB Fitness on 6/16/15. I was told that I would be able to do month to month to test it out to see if I liked it. They marked the parts of the contract for me to fill out and I did. After, I filled out my portion they filled out the rest. I realized that was a mistake because they put it as a year long contract even though he gave me a verbal confirmation that it was a month to month membership. I decided that I wanted to quit the gym and when I went to cancel my membership, they informed me that the contract was for a year. When I spoke with the owner, Nick, he refused to cancel the contract, but agreed to cancel out 6 months, which left me with 2 months to pay. I showed up for a class on 9/29/15 and found the "Crossfit" gym dismantled. The instructor didn't show up for the class either. I have just learned that they are not affiliated with Crossfit at all. On my contract, it states Club Name: "Crossfit" and membership type: "Crossfit". When I asked to speak to the owner, the receptionist led me into his office and upon asking him about the changes, he said: "I'm having a bad day. Get the ***** out before I knock you the ***** out!"
