Glamorously named it isn't, and the orange colour scheme screams 'EasyGym'. But don't be too quick to turn your nose up - this is a very good gym, and for the price (a ridiculous £14.99 per month), it's nothing short of amazing.
The gym operates on a pay as you go basis - no contracts, just a flat rate fee of £14.99 per month which is collected through Direct Debit. If you want to leave, you cancel the Direct Debit. I think there are also day passes and individual month passes available, but when pay as you go access is so cheap and easy, why would you bother?
Turning to the gym itself - it's large and modern, in an attractive 'arch' setting, spacious, utilitarian but totally functional. As the club is new, most of the equipment is brand new and it's kitted out with everything you could want - tonnes of treadmills (no annoying 20 minute limit), rowers, bikes, ellipticals, recumbent cycles, free weights, suspension trainer, weights machines, swiss balls, kettlebells...I will have missed some things out, but the point is that there's everything you could want here. Oh, plus a nice studio with regular classes (spin classes too, on brand new Schwimmer spin bikes).
Showers and changing area are clean and well maintained - no free shower gel, but who uses that anyway?
The only downsides to this gym I can think are:
- no swimming pool (but most gyms don't have this even at £50 a month)
- no free towels (you'll live)
- TV screens only show music videos, rather than a choice of channels (you're at the gym to workout, not to watch TV).
It does get busy at about 5.30-7pm, with the after work rush, but I've never seen all the treadmills taken and the rush soon abates. Classes are normally easy to book through the website if you're prompt at booking the popular ones, and access to the club is through an ingenious 'fingerprint' system so you don't need to remember a membership card.
I'm lucky in that I live about 5 minutes' walk away from this gym, but I would give it 5 stars even if it were a bit more of a hassle to get to. The majority of gyms just aren't worth it - this one is the exception that proves the rule. read more
