Dave and Joe are exceptional coaches and are truly passionate about Muay Thai. Prior to finding CMA, I trained at large and well known gyms (e.g., AKA, El Niño) and these places do not come close to the high level of instruction I've received at CMA. The classes at CMA are a perfect balance of technical instruction and fitness - with an emphasis on improving your individual skill set and providing tailored feedback to help you achieve your goals. Dave and Joe have worked hard to provide a welcoming environment to all - no bro-culture here! Whether you're a beginner wanting to learn something new while also getting a work-out or a competitive martial artist, this is the place to be. 10/5, would recommend.

Private lessons offerings are available as well if you really want to ramp up, I learned a ton and the sport is something I'd recommend to anybody if you're on the fence about picking up a new hobby. Only leaving because of a move, but I'll still drop in if I'm ever back in the City. I highly recommended

Classes are well run and open to all levels, from beginners to experienced fighters. The atmosphere is welcoming, focused, and respectful. I've trained with Kru Sam for over 20 years. He has proven to be one of the best Muay Thai trainers in the world. Over the last 25 years, he has developed multiple world champions and helped launch the careers of some of San Francisco's top Muay Thai and MMA fighters. His teaching is clear, technical, and patient. He gives the same attention to new students as he does to seasoned fighters. He also hosts fight events, giving his students real opportunities to compete. This gym has a strong and supportive community. Everyone trains hard and looks out for one another. If you want real Muay Thai with world-class coaching and a team that feels like family, World Muay Thai Team USA is the place to be.

The coaches are skilled, personable, and really love to see when you're improving. The other students are welcoming and all putting in their best effort to better themselves all for various reasons, and if you're doing the same, you're gonna make some solid friendships here. Kru Sam is actually from Thailand and knows the traditions of the art and still goes back himself or sends students there regularly to train, which may be part of why he's trained so many champions. If you're looking to compete, a place to learn how to defend yourself, or even a place to get in a solid workout, give it a shot!

We enrolled our 4-year-old daughter in their week-long summer camp. On her first day, she was left behind at a playground in San Francisco during a camp outing. She was found by another adult, and thankfully, my daughter had memorized my cell phone number. That adult was able to contact me and let me know that my daughter had been left behind by the Barrios Martial Arts summer program. When I later spoke with a Barrios staff member, she apologized for my daughter being left behind. I asked how they account for children during outings, and she told me they do a headcount before leaving the park, but do not do a headcount when returning to the facility. I picked my daughter up and told them she would not be returning. When I later spoke with other parents, they told me that they don't have all the kids wear camp shirts, vests, or other visible identifiers during outings to show that they are part of the Barrios camp. I was also told that at the end of the day, the camp takes children back to the park to release them to parents, but does not ask for ID, even on the first day of camp. I am sharing this because parents deserve to know before trusting a camp with their young children. My daughter was 4 years old and was left behind at a public park. In my opinion, this raises serious concerns about their supervision, field trip procedures, headcounts, and overall child safety protocols.

That alone made the whole experience worth it. The counselors were incredibly patient and knew exactly how to connect with the kids. They struck a great balance between being encouraging, fun, and making every child feel included. Shout out to Mr. Joey. Before camp even started, Clare made a huge impression on me. She answered all of my questions, was genuinely kind, and made me feel completely comfortable sending my son. As a parent, that meant a lot. I actually found Barrios through their adult boot camp first, and that's what convinced me to check out everything else they offer. The workouts were tough in the best way, and the instructors somehow managed to push everyone while keeping the atmosphere positive and welcoming. If you're looking for a place where your child can build confidence or you're just looking for an incredible workout yourself, I highly recommend Barrios Martial Arts. We'll definitely be back.
