The community of students here has been very welcome among both newcomers, veterans, and returners. I gotta start with my teacher, Sifu Philip Wong. It's easy enough to see his credentials, as there are many and well-published. What I did want to capture is how he interacts with the class I'm in. We have a spectrum of students across different ages and martial arts experience levels and he makes sure to get the best out all of us. He finds ways to get us to push ourselves a little more each day and is very present to ensure our forms are correct. And he genuinely cares about his students as people, able to connect with anyone from a variety of backgrounds. The facilities and gear are high-quality and up-to-date. There's plenty of sparring gear for different purposes; whether it's hand-held for punches or kicks, or padded dummies, it's great to have something for every need. And my thanks the top-of-the-line floor mats the school uses can't be expressed enough. As I'm pushing 50, making sure that the mats can provide me traction when we warm up, stability when we strike, and cushion when we practice falls is very important to me. I can feel safe, not worry about injury, and focus on the exercises. And bonus points for the workout playlist that makes me feel like a kid again.

Legit gym with proven results but unforgivable unprofessionalism and predatory billing turned my…read moreexperience into a nightmare. Proceed with caution. I'll start with the truth: Zhong Luo's Dragon House MMA is a legitimate operation. Luo has undeniable credentials in traditional Chinese kung fu, runs a full-scale MMA program, and promotes his own successful fight events (Zhong Luo Cage Fighting Series) that draw serious talent. The gym produces competitive fighters, hosts high-level amateur and pro bouts, and clearly knows how to develop athletes who go on to bigger stages. No question. On paper, this place has credibility and results. But legitimacy doesn't excuse treating a sincere student like absolute shit. And that's exactly what happened to me in 2019. As someone with a profound admiration for Chinese culture and its martial traditions, I train religiously, pushing my physique to exceptional levels of strength. Raw power, disciplined conditioning, unyielding drive. I sought out Dragon House specifically for its authentic Kung Fu roots blended with modern MMA. Under proper guidance, channeling that energy and refining my skills, I could have become a devastating force in that realm; the kind of dedicated fighter any coach would be proud to mold. Instead, I got blatant disrespect and neglect. Luo repeatedly no-showed for scheduled classes; not once, but multiple times. I'd arrive eager to train, only to wait in vain while unsupervised students sparred chaotically around me. Safety was a joke. On my first day alone, one person attempted to eye gouge me during sparring. There was no oversight and no correction, only serious health and safety risks because the so called "Sifu" failed to honor his commitments, and because of racism (the person I was paired with was a racist white man, a grown adult who tried to eye gouge me, a college student). Even if those no-shows were some colossal "misunderstanding" (which I highly doubt), Luo offered zero explanation and zero apology on both occasions. Not a word. Just silence and indifference toward a student who showed up with nothing but respect and hunger to learn. Then came the real kicker: this "legit" gym still billed me whereabouts $1,700 for a full fucking year of training that I never received. When I disputed and blocked the unauthorized charge through my bank (because paying for phantom services is insane) they sent it straight to collections. Harassing me over money for services that were never provided. Unbelievable predatory bullshit from a place that claims to uphold discipline and honor. I'm not denying the gym's successes or Luo's skills. Plenty of people thrive there. But my experience exposes the rotten underbelly: chronic flakiness at the top, zero accountability, and ruthless billing tactics that screw over anyone who falls through the cracks. This isn't bitterness; it's outrage at being dismissed and exploited despite my sincerity. Dragon House has potential and pedigree, which makes the unprofessionalism even more shameful. Strong warning: sign anything here at your own risk. Demand clear terms, track attendance meticulously, and be prepared for zero recourse if things go south. There are other legit gyms out there worth considering instead. As my dear friends in China would say, "可惜你".

I've mixed feelings about updating my review for Silver Dragon. I've had both of my kids here for…read morethe past 7-8 years....maybe even a bit longer. They spent half of their life at Silver Dragon and I wanted them to stay so they could feel confident in difficult situations and to always incorporate physical activity in their life, something that was important to me when I was younger. I could tell my kids weren't as enthusiastic about attending as they were when younger, particularly the forms classes but they loved the teachers or Si Hings (Matt and Joseph) and really got a lot out of the sparring classes. I've got nothing but great things to say about Matt and Joseph. However, the owner can be extremely curt and downright unprofessional at times. I get that kung fu studio culture is a bit different and there is a hierarchy but my kids have experienced and I've seen first hand where the owner belittles the instructors and corrects them and/or their students in a very condescending, public way that is unprofessional and sets poor examples for the kids they're teaching. Its ironic that some of the same values that this studio preaches about - confidence and doing whats right is exactly what my oldest displayed that drew the ire of the owner when he spoke out in class about how it wasn't right that she was blaming her teachers publicly for inconsistencies and problems in the class that quite honestly, she often creates. Honestly, I wasn't there to witness that final exchange but I know my son and I know him to be authentic, honest and has a sense of social and moral justice - so I believe and support him. I'll believe and support the son who has been a straight A student and whose school teachers absolutely rave about, who spends his off time reading as well as volunteering at the library and for a local non-profit. On the other hand, I've seen inconsistencies with the owner's business practices, changing schedules and times multiple times and then blaming parents or kids for not staying on top of them, even when the public schedules weren't updated. So yeah, I know who I'd support in a heartbeat. I honestly should have pulled them years ago - certainly last year when my oldest was so upset after a class because the owner was contradicting the instructors again publicly. But we didn't because going to kung fu was part of our routine and we had hoped for some change after a talk with the owner. I'm glad to say that we finally pulled out this time. I debated on whether to update the review. The 5 star review I left 7 years certainly doesn't stand anymore. I don't think they're 1 star so I settled on 2 stars. The two stars are for Matt and Joseph and if you were to choose this studio, it would be for those 2 teachers. The patience and skill they've dedicated to the kids of the studio and to our 2 kids are second to none. And to thrive in such a space under such a difficult owner is quite the feat. Joseph in particular has really shone - the self defense techniques he's taught to my kids are pretty special and while I still wouldn't want my kids to be in a fight, I do feel a bit better know they've gotten some serious training with Joseph.

Always looked closed. No yelp reviews, nothing. I had a friend that sent his daughters here and he recommended this place so I did some research on this place before sending him here. I signed up the boy for 3 months to see how he likes it in 2015. It's been almost 1 year since. He's more disciplined now almost 6 years old compared to most kids out there. I've seen him develop his reflexes and self defense over the past year. I can say this small studio will do your kid right. No bs, no mess around kind of studio. I've been there and watch other kids from different martial arts with black belts and can't do what the eagle Claw kids do with just red and blue belts. I was pretty amazed and I'm not ragging on other martial arts but maybe it's easier to get belts in other places. Watching my boy practice, this isn't for the weak. They dont babysit. just teach kungfu, plain and simple. There is another wing chun class taught there at the same studio on certain nights only. (Haven't checked it out) seen some of the students there and doesn't look they mess around either. Definitely a good place to learn martial arts. I googled eagle Claw and found out they have many international studios... do your own research and figure it out. Worked out for my boy.

We both LOVE One Martial Arts. The entire welcome experience could not be more perfect. You book a free trial class easily online and show up to find your kids name on a big sign with a free t-shirt waiting. They are super supportive in the class and let the first-timers do a board breaking at the end so they get absolutely hooked from the jump. The joy in their faces after that board breaks and they feel so powerful is priceless! Arrive for your first real class their uniform is at the ready on the front desk. Seriously, so organized! We love the instructors. They break the kids into smaller groups so she's gotten to work with Shīfu Bender and Shīfu Fidler and Shīfu Lucas Dela Cruz who are all wonderful. They have an app that makes everything super easy. Including instructional videos kids can use to practice. When you arrive you just check your kiddo in on the ipad (they are located right next to the after class lollipops). The class itself is the perfect blend of skill-training and fun. They learn respect, discipline and hard work, then they get to play a fun game at the end like freeze tag to get all their energy out. They also earn sticker stripes leading up to the different color belts. My kiddo is highly motivated by this and always looks forward to the "earn" days. The support staff is super responsive and helpful with inquiries and questions. There are plenty of benches to sit and watch but it's in a great neighborhood so always fun to run out and grab a snack or bubbletea.
