I hit every furniture store along Central Avenue and Belmont Avenue and this place was the best for prices and selection and it's also large and clean. Don't fear - most of the styles on the floor are very "Euro-esque" which caters to the clientele in the neighborhood. I witnessed a European lady buying couches in brown leather with chrome legs and tassels and financing it too. But they also have less aggressive traditional American styles. Just ask for Ali or Besam. If they don't have it in stock they will get from their warehouse in Elgin. I was looking for a very specific piece. My room is small and there is no room for bedside tables so I wanted a headboard/hutch with cubby holes to hold a water glass or clock radio. I use a futon with a wooden frame as a bed and I wanted a hutch to match. Ali and Besam found EXACTLY what I had in mind and it was only $80 so I was very happy. My hutch is sturdy, solid wood and made in Malaysia. It is nice to have a small locally-owned business in the neighborhood with excellent prices!

Think about "Cook Brothers Warehouse," "Forman Mills," and those major discount retailers (TJ Maxx, Ross Dress for Less, and Marshall's). "Save & Tell Outlet" is like a combination of these three, with the entire downstairs basement featuring all furniture. Since we were on the lookout for a bed frame, we took a peek and found some possibilities. S&T is having a grand-opening special during the month of March on most of their furniture, saving up to $400 on some of the pieces. S&T carries overstock or liquidation from Macy's. The old Macy's tags were still present on their clothing items. I saw some young girls picking out bras and panties. I wasn't that curious, yet hubby was and went straight to the section. He then reported back to me that four (4) bras were on sale for $17. You do the math, and I would say that deal was pretty good! I also saw name-brand perfumes, kitchenware, curtains, shoes, and blankets. Overall, it's a decent store for the convenience of neighborhood residents.

This store opened a few months ago and it looks so strange from the outside -like a big warehouse that would sell industrial materials or something. I had been afraid to go in there because the neighborhood is a bit rough in them thar' parts, but it was my boyfriend's birthday and I wanted to treat him to a gift. He too is mourning the loss of his favorite store (AJ Wright) so I was hoping to give him a double bday present -the hope that he has found an equitable replacement *and* an actual gift. He acted as my bodyguard and we braved the deary, rainy elements to venture out to that part of the city. I was actually really impressed! It was very AJ-Wright-ish but actually kinda better because it wasn't all chaotic and disorganized. They actually had a bunch of cute stuff. Tons of cute T-shirts, jeans, purses and (ooooooh snap!) ladies, -I found my funky shoe place once again! -And I'm embarrassed to say I added two more pairs to my ridiculous collection! The crowd was cool too. There is a well built (and handsome!) security guard in the front and a bunch of regular old people -lots of families, diversity. I even got a compliment on the shoes I was wearing by one of the sales clerks (I made sure to credit -you guessed it -AJ Wright). It was a great experience! Cashier Tammy was very nice too and even alerted the Supervisor when I asked if there was a damaged merchandise discount (there is-10%) since the shoes in my size were a little beat up but I still liked them! Total damage? $38.93 for two pairs of shoes and a funky belt. So glad I checked it out! Her brother Ed lives in Quezon City w/his daughter and 3 grandkids. 2 girls and 1 boy. My wife calls frequently to check up and see how he's doing (I mean even if there was a problem he wouldn't tell her). So anyway she was talking to him last night to see how he's doing and if there were any specific items that he needed. The 7 year old granddaughter was asked if she wanted anything. She doesn't want anything like a Barbie doll she wants an i phone X. Yeah right let's get her a $1000 i phone X. Maybe one for her sister too lol. We recently found out after years of driving by that it is open to the public. This coupled by our plans to go to the Philippines early next year we ventured into the building that houses Advance Distributors to see if there was anything we could find. Upon entering we found row after row of merchandise some of value and others not so much (kind of like a giant flea market). I met one the owners Vijay who told me they have been there since 1974. It was originally owned by his father and now he & his brother run Advance Distributers. He told me he would give me a discount, but much of the discount is volume driven and I didn't need to buy more of certain items. Unfortunately there wasn't much that we needed from the store & many of the items that were name brand items I have bought when on sale at other stores at lower prices.

Some things are sold in bulk for even more savings--nag champa super hit is a steal here! I like to come here for packing and mailing supplies. Never spend $5 for a roll of packing tape again! Bubble mailers of all sizes are $1.50 for two! These are the exact same things you'd buy at the UPS store but without the steep markup. The staff is a whole lot friendlier, too. It's also good for coloring books--so cheap, and some kids just go right through them. Now, the downside. They sell out of things fairly often. The place is not beautiful. You get dollar store quality for many items with dollar store prices. There's often only one type of a given item, so if you don't like the color on hand, tough cookies. It's close to both the Lawrence and Pulaski buses, but not the train or bike racks, and parking a car can be a pain. Keep your expectations low and your mind open to have the best possible shopping experience here.
