Wow!! Does it get better than 3 floors of thrift goodies? Village Discount has several stores throughout Chicago but none of them are this big! The first floor is women's and baby clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry, etc. The second floor is more jewelry, housewares, and men's and boys clothing. The third floor is furniture, books, and other miscellaneous stuff. If you're exhausted or overwhelmed by the first two floors, you're not missing much if you skip the third floor. This place is a hike too! The stairs are narrow and steep. They don't have traditional shopping carts. They have rolling baskets you pull around...and if you have a decent haul going, you're going to have to take all that with you to the upper floors. I give this store 4 stars (employees are pretty friendly too) for the quantity of stuff here...and good stuff! I bought 3 dresses and paid about $25. This store gets 2 stars for parking (street parking with a pay box) and its overall location. This store is not in a good area. I would come back here but only with friends...not alone. read more

Located in Little Village, this is a massive thrift store. It has 3 levels. Women's is downstairs, men's and housewares are on the 2nd floor, and furniture and wall art are on the 3rd. With 3 floors, you're going to find pretty much everything you can imagine. Be prepared to really dig though. Truthfully, I prefer thrifting in more curated shops. I'd rather pay more for stuff that has already been carefully picked by shop owners than sift through rows and rows of very basic brands looking for that one gem. Look at the tag colors and check if it's a color that's 1/2 off. You can find some really great deals that way. This is the dredges of thrift stores in Chicago. Dirty, unorganized, and a staff that have never heard of "Customer Service" yet somehow seem to maintain their jobs. If you do decide to shop hear, be prepared to stand in line an inordinate amount of time when checking out, (despite their claim that when more than 3 people are in line a new register is opened- DOESN'T HAPPEN! Additionally, if you want to see something beyond your reach, behind the counter, being told to "wait" while the service representative does busy work for 10 minutes (just to put you in your place). The employees here are DREADFUL!!!!! As for the merchandise, it is poorly organized, rarely interesting, and mostly overpriced. 10 years ago, this was a great thrift store, but it has been sadly mismanaged and is now a shadow of its former self and best avoided. read more

**July 2025: Thursday Evening Visit** This store is a massive treasure hunt! It's arranged loosely by style (ie. skirts, dresses, jackets etc) and by size, but there were definitely some hidden gems on my visit. I bought several very 90s pieces for a few upcoming throwback looks that I plan to put together and the prices were inexpensive/moderate for thrifting. Everything is individually priced and below are some examples for pricing. Black Pettycoat Skirt $3.99 Vintage Red Dress $3.99 Red Sequin Skirt $10.59 Denim Vest $5.99 Pink Scarf $1.99 Plastic Bag $.10 (Yes they do charge for bags) There weren't any dressing rooms that I could see so be sure to wear clothing that's easy to put clothes on/off, a can do attitude, and roll up your sleeves to plow through every rack. I remember when my mom and aunt would come here ages ago. This building is super super old but has a lot of variety to choose from. It's an old building so keep in mind it not air conditioned as one would like. It's lightly Air conditioned but it's stuffy and muggy. Get ready to dig! I was there to shop for teacher-appropriate basic clothing on the cheap and it was exactly what I needed. This is a good old thrift store with tons of stuff that is organized generally into what type of clothing it is and gender, but it is definitely not organized by size and is very messy. Clothes coming off hangers, stuffed onto the racks, shoes falling off shelves, etc. The colored tags go on sale for 50% off. I went on a Saturday and 3 different color tags were half off--I think that might just be on weekends though? Dunno. There are white tagged items that are listed under "better clothing" and they are a little more expensive with better brands. I skipped all the white tags cuz I was out for deals. Honestly, I was so occupied and overwhelmed by the first floor I didn't make it upstairs. Most of the clothing is relatively new brands that can't be more than a couple of years old from big stores, but you can find some cool vintage from the 70s through 00s here too (but like I said you will have to dig). There is also a good amount of Indian/modest dress which I thought was nice, a lot of it tagless/handmade. I think there is probably something for everyone here. I spent over 2 hours combing all the women's clothes and got some good stuff. Pictured is my haul: a dress, jumpsuit, cardigan, 6 shirts, 3 pairs of pants, and one pair of leather shoes for a total of $29.55. Also included pic of my receipt so you can see what the prices are like. All in all this place is great for the basics. There are cool vintage/unique treasures if you have time to dig. I don't know why the people who wrote bad reviews are hung up on customer service--this is the type of place where you definitely have to figure everything out yourself. So what? It's one of the largest Village Discount Outlet locations in the city of Chicago. You can find many stores and restaurants on the W. 26th. in the Little Village neighborhood. If you're a seasoned thrifter, I do recommend this location because this store has three (3) large floors. They have a dedicated floor for women's ready-to-wear and accessories (the ground floor), great selections on both men's and children's apparel and accessories, plus electronics (second floor), a plenty of books, vinyls, and furniture (third floor). They do have restrooms for patrons, but they didn't appear to be sanitary enough to my standard. Thus, utilize them at your own risk for sure. For the most part, Village Discount Outlet stores can be pretty dirty and antiquated. Well, you're thrifting, so there's no VIP or luxury kind of service catered to your needs. Somehow you have to get over this so that you can enjoy yourself. For me, thrifting is similar to riding a time-machine; I was born in 1985, and I missed the late 80's and early 90's fashion, music, and electronics. I've found many vintage Blazers and I LOVE wearing them. They are functionally practical (having REAL pockets, not the faux ones) and those pockets are deep enough to slip my cellular phone in (yes, so I can yelp and snap some pictures quickly and discreetly). Hubby scored a webcam for $5 and some change. He didn't want to wait until the half-off sale, which is on Saturday and Sunday (03/28 and 03/29). I know there's something called the "early bird special," yet I never bother to inquire one of the associates about this. Hubby and I thrift a lot, but we do this leisurely. All of their pricing at this location has skyrocketed. The store barely has customers at any given time, because they have all gone elsewhere. This is now a typical price for a toy doll. Mind you, this isn't any special doll. But the fact that it's clean, I guess, makes it worth $16.20 in a thrift store. It's a used toy that someone donated. Lady from Indiana made a killing with a bunch of Xmas decorations she said were 20 cents each and a pile of Xmas sweaters. Hey, it's a resale store -I don't judge. 6. This is my boyfriend's "secret" store, where he has found a lot of cool authentic looking Mexican style furniture and light fixtures. So he has had some pretty good luck here. Cons: 1. Scary clientele -I'm sure some of them were homeless and/or very impoverished. Hey, that's OK, but this store's particular clientele were not so friendly. I usually bond and laugh with other customers, but was slightly fearful for my life here. I got a couple of really evil looks as I nicely said "excuse me" to get through aisles! 2. Announcement stating "Watch your purse. We are not responsible for stolen items." Niiiiiiiice. 3. Overall, not as much cool stuff as I would have hoped. My husband and I are at your location in chicago, address in the subject line. Spoke with a manager because an item we were attempting to by had a tag on it with a date so needed her approval to buy it. Can't give you her name because she wouldn't give it to us. She called her worker Francisco, don't know what they talked about because they refused to talk in English. Francisco started to go to the elevator to meet my husband upstairs. My husband was behind him, he told my husband he can't take the elevator but would meet him up there, on the 3rd floor after just coming back down from walking all three flights ot stairs. When wre asked if the male worker who helped us originally could show him, they said yes, then Francisco now wants to walk up the three flights of stairs that he wouldn't walk up with my husband.  The manager says sometimes to Francisco in spanish then they both walk off. After standing there for 25 min, they never returned to sale us what we came there for. I feel so discriminated against and disrespected. I would never spend my time and or money in another village discount store. This was my first and last time ever patronizing a store that treat their customers that way. read more

The Village Discount Outlet services the diverse needs of the local community. The store offers a wide variety of items at affordable rates for the largely Mexican American population in Little VIllage. They have regular specials that discount the already low prices to provide extra savings. This store is a real resource for low-income residents, bargain shoppers, and thrift store junkies. I live within walking distance of the Village Discount Outlet and have found a number of quality goods that meet both my budget and my personal needs. The store is very popular to local residents so it can get crowded and the tight aisles can make it difficult to manuever. It functions almost like a garage sale rewarding the patient seeker with an eye for a good deal. The first floor comprises mainly clothing while the second floor has a large selection of furniture, electronics, books, and sporting equipment. I have found first class books (as low as 10 books for $1) and my wife has found great purchases for craft projects. I found a brand new DVD documentary (Walmart: The high cost of low prices) for $1.40 on the 4th of July when they had 50% off everything in store. The Village Discount Outlet is a store that is truly benefitting the people in the community. They offer everyday titems at prices everyone can afford. When visiting please be respectful and sensitive to the people that are going there as much out of necessity as thriftiness. My last trip I found a Blondie record and an amazing vintage cake stand. Atmosphere: D+ There is a lot of crap on the floor. Also, I hate when blouses are covering the skirts so you basically have to break your back to see what's what. I overheard the manager talking about a fresh pick-pocketing which I am sure is characteristic of most thrift stores. And at this particular Village (the "Village Village" as I call it), that territory includes a second floor with hundreds of thrift store paintings, 20+ lamps and lampshades, 40+ vintage hardshell suitcases piled on the floor and a store-length shelf of housewares any vintage Etsy seller would kill to get their hands on (vintage brass owl-shaped trivet anyone?). I bought a hard shell blue suitcase I swear I saw on Apartment Therapy for $2.00 the last time I was at the Village Village. Oh, and a Trapper Keeper for $0.60. A little hard to find parking if you drive, but 26th street is really fun to walk up and down. This whole area + this particular Village is worth the adventure. read more

Just left the store with family. My aunt was unable to purchase a single book because she didn't have enough money. I went back in less than 3 minutes later to buy it for her. They had it at the counter but wouldn't sell it to me without standing in line again. Granted today is a special sale day, but we had already stood in line for 30 mins and had only just left the store. Poor business practice. This Village has really gone downhill since back in the day. I get dreamy when I think of my turquoise ez bake oven scored here or some of the jewelry I snagged. I only get to hit Chicago thrift stores every 2-4 years and have watched this one in particular go into decline. Yes, dirt is a part of the thrift store experience. I've seen ca-ca in a dressing room, fights, utensils with food all over them...so I'm no stranger to mess and I do not run from it (though I might hold my breath)...but, does the score justify the mess? No stars here...and I mean that in the most regretful way. I have been shopping at the 'Village' as the intercom in the store says for many years. Mostly on the north side in Wicker Park/Logan Square. Just for fun I thought I would venture to a southside 'Village' in little village. 26th street is best known for 26th and California. Cook county jail. Village stores are always a little more discombobulated than most but this was RETARDED. It is a very small store in comparison to most. The floor was covered in EVERY aisle with clothes on the ground. I know it is saturday and busy but there is no way the LAZY ignots that work there could not have gone and picked up 1 or 2 hangers and items so that customers could navigate a cart through the store. There was a very limited selection of usable items...unless you are looking for those ugly 3" block heel frankenstein boots that were popular in about 1997. And then they had the nerve to charge $9.00 for a pair of these tragic boots that were horribly used. If you also enjoy used payless shoes then shop here. For all of my hunting here...I ended up finding an Eddie Bauer long down coat in great shape (a little overpriced at $12.00 but honestly worth it). I will NEVER go back here again, the people who shop here are rude and bring their 15 kids with them who run rampant through the store and then block the aisle and act like they cannot understand english when I say excuse me. The people who work here are just as ignorant, when I went to make my purchase the woman looked at my coat and said "This is $12.00..do you still want it?" Did she think I could not read the tag that clearly said $12.00??? Never again, never again..... Edit: well, never say never, I went back today. Found the store still a little bit of a mess but improved a little...the quality of the merchanise today was amazing. I got about 9 or 10 belts that were collector quality and a couple cute vintage dresses. Half price tags on most of the items that I got. So for the most part every item I bought was $1-$3!!! I used to be able to find great items for my teenage daughters, like designer stuff but has anyone else noticed those brand name items are no longer available? I was told by someone who worked there that they now list those items on Ebay and no longer offer them to the community which is a SHAME. People DONATE their items to help low income families buy at a cheap price but the owners/managers won't say WHY these items are kept off the floor. I just visited here this morning and it's the opposite of what everyone's said below. Maybe it's because I went first thing in the morning when they were open but it was very neat, very tidy. Clothes were color co-ordinated, hung up neatly in racks but I say this with a big BUT, it maybe because I went first thing in the morning before the daily crowd shuffled in. It was also very clean and organized. I bought two mens sweaters (JC Penny's brand, two polo shirts and a very smart Levi mens jean for $15! They were all in good condition. (although I should probably venture out to a nicer one, I'm sure I'd be worth the trip) As far as the customers that bring their 15 kids. Heck yes they do! It's a mexican thing. Try grocery shopping and doing laundry in this neighborhood. The problem is not that they BRING their kids, it's that their kids are ALWAYS so horrible. The parents will let them do anything, they do not watch them. MY fav. experience was doing laundry and this 10 yr old (who at that age should have known better) opened the box w/the circuit breakers and switched them off . Had to start my laundry over. I would have demanded my $ from the mom but she would have not understood me...sigh. Anyway WAYYY off topic back to V.D.O. I know the cashier you are talking about. I bought a dress last week from their "premium white tag rack" the only rack w/anything decent. It was $12 and she said "it's $12, you want?" Do I look like I can't read or afford friggin $12?? That store is always a mess. Usually overpriced on stuff that shouldn't be but then on stuff that should is cheap. For example I found a mint J. Crew skirt for like $2 and then some no name shirt $6.I sell on eBay so I go about once a week and will find a gem or two but I'm sure I could find more if I travel North. OH and my favorite policy of theirs.. that no one could tell me why it was. I found this REALLY pretty spaghetti strap long top. I looked it up and the brand is pretty expensive. Anyway it had no tag so when I brought it to the register I told the lady and she "you have to come back tomorrow" I was like huh?? I guess to re-staple a tag to a shirt takes a whole day??? They give you a sheet of paper with the item written on it to bring back. I thought yeah right it will mysteriously be not found. I came back the next day and brought my slip to the back and it did appear. What I don't get is their white tag premium rack tops are all usually the same price. Why the heck couldn't they just scribble it on a tag like they do and pop it on w/ a staple? Why must I come back??? No one could tell me why. Then again I was speaking english. It's always a mess, it wasn't a Saturday thing. I've gone about an hour after they opened and it was a mess. I don't think they clean it. They just keep hanging up new stuff and toss out the stuff that gets ruined on the floor. Also for some reason I am always terrified in that store that someone is gonna pickpocket me or get my wallet out of my purse(which I just read on craigslist that someones wallet got stolen at a different Village Discount Outlet, not this one) It's not the neighborhood that gives me that creepy "I'm gonna get robbed" feeling. I think it's more that the store is always so crowded and the aisles are so tiny and there always people brushing up to me as they pass. It used it be like an adventure shopping here....always found some great item at a great price. Used to be worth it to make the drive, wait for parking, deal with the kids crying real, real loud and the smell...but no anymore. Prices are much higher, you can actually get nicer NEW items at the store when they have sales/coupons. I discovered this store about a year ago, and I must say I am very pleased with my discovery. I tell endless people about this location for many many reasons. One, the staff is wonderful. The manager Tom is accommodating, interested in great service, and actually recognizes and speaks to you by name after a couple of visits. The cashier Rosie smiles, looks at you in the eye, and again, recognizes you after a few visits. They remember what you shop for and actually tell you if "your merchandise" has any new finds. It's not just the manager, the assistants, or the cashiers that speak. The workers who help you to the car with items, put clothes on the racks, and put out the nick nacks. The workers who wash the windows, sweep the floors, or unload the trucks. I have been there enough that they speak after I speak, or if I don't see them, they speak first! You can't beat that for customer service. This store has 3 levels. How wonderful is that. There is so much to choose from. Sometimes the prices don't reflect a "thrift store" price. The prices are high. But, there are enough items to choose from to get a great deal. The prices of book's are my pet peeve. .50 cents for a children's paperback, 1.00 for a children's hard cover, 1.00 for adult paperback novels and 2.00 for adult hard cover books. That is ridiculous. I used to buy the books, but now I just go to Unique, Goodwill, and the Salvation Army for my books. If there is no price on an item, Village's policy has you ask for a price check, but you must come back the next day to get the item. The drawback with this is if your don't live in the neighborhood, generally, one does not get back. I live approximately 30 miles away round trip. I am not returning for one item, no matter how much I like it. Unique Thrift store will price it for you immediately, and I wish Village Corporate would be so accommodating. I love this store. In this place I have found mid-century French pottery wine pitchers with the names of probably long-defunct cafes on them; a Punjabi pink and orange patchwork calico child's dress with mirrored embroidery on the bodice, in perfect condition; a black cashmere cowlneck sweater from Saks; a white nightdress thing by a Parisian designer; a black Eileen Fisher jacket ... etc. And while I do hold onto my purse, I have never felt threatened. The aisles are packed and you have to be careful not to step on a small child. (Anyway, I actually enjoy seeing little kids exploring this complex and overstimulating environment and asking their parents what stuff is.) The place is overstuffed and rewards digging. The ugly lighting is blue fluorescent old-school institutional, but that just makes it more rewarding to examine your purchases outside in natural light . . . I think a lot of people come here looking for work clothes, so if you're looking for something more unusual, it's likely to be there, unclaimed by others. read more

VDO is the cheapest chain of thrift. Much cheaper than Family Thrift or Unique. They tend to have more junk though but every once in a while I will find a really good find for cheaper than I would get anywhere else. If you enjoy the thrill of the hunt come here. There is three floors now. They have lots of golf clubs which puzzles me since I've never known a Mexican to play Golf. Also tennis rackets -some aluminum,fiberglass, old wood ones. Some old but usable basketballs. *Pants-Always wrong sizes on price tag. It will say 36 when it's actually 34. Outdated baggy pants. Dress pants are ok since the fashion doesn't change. *Shirts-mostly Fruit of the Loom screen prints for cancer walks and things like that. Dress shirts are ok again since the fashion doesn't change and they tend to be better condition *white tag- "better" pricey garments. Id rather avoid this and just go to Plato's. *dog stuff- mostly nylon collars and leashes sometimes clothes. *books- mostly fiction books from who cares authors. I'm into non-fiction so not interested. Once in a while you can find good bibles. Also they are expensive. Back in the day around '99 you could get ten of books for what you can get them now on regular price. *Videos- lots of VHS 3 for $1 *Furniture I'd mostly avoid this especially couches which are nasty with holes and stains. They even have mattresses...You can get a good condition (from the 90s) computer chair for cheap on sale days. *Kids- I'd recommend this section. Usually in better condition and not so outdated since kids wear their clothes for a short time. *Parking- there is none other than street parking. I park 2 blocks away to avoid paying for it. *half-off sales- Frequent. EVERYTHING is half off. However the store looks like any store on black friday. The day after a half off sale there is a book sale which is like 5 books for a dollar or something like that. *Credit cars- $5 minimum. read more

Please don't waste your time or money there. Their ticket system sucks. Today I found a great top. Well the price tag got smushed underneath everything else. The clerk called the manager who would only sale it to me the next day. I was upset because no other thrift store in the city does that. I argued the fact that the shirt was in my basket and wasn't my fault. Well the clerk and manager on duty whose English was horrible looked at me like I was crazy. Then the manager whose English was was barely audible mumbled something about the cameras. First of all this happens all time, you put stuff in the bag or basket and either the tag comes off or gets smashed. You don't win because they would rather let money walk out the door and make you come back the next day. Furthermore its a thrift store, why pay 69.00 for a Coach bag you don't if its real or not, when you can go to the outlet and get a brand new one for that price? Then when I had to pay half cash and the other in credit the manager tried to force me to pay my tab in cash cuz once again the clerk didn't have a clue. Surely they need to more people who speak Clear English. Secondly if a price tag gets smashed why should the customer leave without the merchandise? Go to Unique on Mondays where everything is half off and if something isn't priced the manager will do it on the spot and not make you wait until the next day to get the item you want. read more

First of all, Vintage mean just what it says, "Vintage" I read most of the coments and it appears that most of the readers went to the Village Outlet to just complain about what is not, rather than what is. I been going to the village outlet for approximately 30 years not because I had to, but because I wanted to and I find joy and relaxation when I do visit the store most of the time. Mind you, I been going to this same store for the entire time and ocassionally visit other stores but none have measured up to the the Village Outlet located at 4020 West 26th Street Chicago Illinois. I find the prices are within range of others and sometime they get a bit high, but I say to myself I am going to have to stop visiting this store and the very next time I return as if they heard me talking and brough down the price. I don't go there to see what nationality is shopping but to shop for what I am looking for. If and only then, will you come out with some great bargains. I love shopping there so much that when I retire from my job, I wish to open a store such as the Village Outlet for all people and especially the "Mexican" that so many have mentioned. Maybe if it were not for the Mexicans shopping at the village outlet it would have been closed a long time ago have you thought about that. Can't we just get alone and buy what we want and not be judgemental of others. "If you spent more time shopping which is the purpose of you being there, you would not observe who is and what nationality is shopoing in the store. God Bless! Tharecea M.
