I haven't been in a Wal-Mart in a very long time…read more Since I'm online catching up on reviews, I'm including this one. My last new years resolution was to stop shopping at Wal-Marts and Sams Clubs, FOREVER. A half a year later, I am still sticking to it and finding it easier and easier to not go back with every week that passes. My reasons for doing this are simple. The types of people they hire show no interest in excelling to reach customer satisfaction. The Wal-Mart business is just too dam big. The customer is no longer valued as such, ...a customer. The shelves are stocked with garbage that comes from China or just not worth buying. POINT: If you have healthy feet, do NOT buy footwear from Wal-Mart. Many products aren't as labeled, ...example being men's belts labeled as genuine leather. The clearance aisles in some, or all of the Wal-Marts can be a deceptive joke. Some items have been found actually priced higher than the standard going price elsewhere. And this is supposed to be clearance? Do they actually believe that some customers won't stand right there in that Aisle and not go online and check items for the going prices elsewhere? News flash! Customers aren't stupid. The self checkout technology. I'm sorry. Customers buy your products and you want them to do the stores job without getting a discount for doing it? That don't fly in my eyes. That's just another disrespectful Wal-Mart slap across the customers faces. I'll patronize establishments that respect me enough to use live human cashiers, ...thank you very much. Cutting third shift away from customer shopping. Another self inflicted injury business decision. And again, not thinking about the customer. Groceries. At Wal-Mart, the unhealthy groceries outweigh the healthy groceries. High fructose corn syrup, aspartame, sodium & sugar levels and other synthetic additives are easier to find here than in other grocery stores. The entire cold cereal aisle is junk. Cereals you won't find in other countries like Germany because they've been banned, restricted or outlawed. The pharmacy. Wal-Mart has made the decision to stock their vitamin shelves with vitamins lacking 'GMP' stamps and 'Lab Tested' stamps on the rear labels. Read the ingredients on some of their vitamin bottles. These are things I can't change. But, I can stop shopping here! And I did! Wal-Mart is just too dam big. The customer doesn't matter to them anymore. Incessant Research

I love the $5 for (almost) everything pricing model - so simple and clear. I love how curated the selection was, and great pieces in pretty darn good shape. I found two pieces here and appreciated the decor and dressing rooms provided. Definitely recommend a visit!

I visited Upshift for their Krazy for Kitties event. I saw on Facebook that you could play with…read morekittens and get half off the swap fee, so that was enough to convince me! The swap fee is usually $20, so $10 was even more of a steal. The owner of Upshift, Lindsay, was there to give me a little intro to how things work. I liked the low-key feel of the swap, as in there's no one looking through your bag, and it's not an item-for-item swap. If you bring in two brown bags, you get to take home up to two brown bags! The store is pretty small, so having a bunch of people (and kittens!) in there made it a bit crunched, but everyone was polite and I felt like I had enough room. As usual with thrifting, you have to be ok with digging a bit for jewels. At first I wasn't sure if I'd find things in my size and style, especially since there were some teenagers there browsing with their moms! I wondered if I was too old to be there! But, after just a few minutes of looking through the racks I was able to find some nice pieces -- some casual, some professional, some nice brands. I think that as more and more people start swapping, the options will be even better. There are 2 dressing rooms that you can pop into to try things on, and the lighting and mirrors were great. I love the idea that you can just take something home to try it out, even if you're not sure if it's quite your style -- it doesn't add any cost, so why not? At the same time, it didn't bug me to put things back on the rack -- I was only paying $10 so who cares if it's just a select few items I take, it was still cheap. I also like that I wasn't pressured into taking as much as I brought to swap. I am trying to minimize a bit, so bringing more than I take home is actually quite nice! There is also an online swap available, which is a really interesting idea. Overall, I would come back here to swap. If I have a bag of clothes I'm giving away, might as well take a look for a couple of new-to-me items.
