Customers treated with suspicion instead of respect. Poor service and an unnecessarily hostile shopping experience.

I haven't been in a Wal-Mart in a very long time. Since I'm online catching up on reviews, I'm including this one. My last new years resolution was to stop shopping at Wal-Marts and Sams Clubs, FOREVER. A half a year later, I am still sticking to it and finding it easier and easier to not go back with every week that passes. My reasons for doing this are simple. The types of people they hire show no interest in excelling to reach customer satisfaction. The Wal-Mart business is just too dam big. The customer is no longer valued as such, ...a customer. The shelves are stocked with garbage that comes from China or just not worth buying. POINT: If you have healthy feet, do NOT buy footwear from Wal-Mart. Many products aren't as labeled, ...example being men's belts labeled as genuine leather. The clearance aisles in some, or all of the Wal-Marts can be a deceptive joke. Some items have been found actually priced higher than the standard going price elsewhere. And this is supposed to be clearance? Do they actually believe that some customers won't stand right there in that Aisle and not go online and check items for the going prices elsewhere? News flash! Customers aren't stupid. The self checkout technology. I'm sorry. Customers buy your products and you want them to do the stores job without getting a discount for doing it? That don't fly in my eyes. That's just another disrespectful Wal-Mart slap across the customers faces. I'll patronize establishments that respect me enough to use live human cashiers, ...thank you very much. Cutting third shift away from customer shopping. Another self inflicted injury business decision. And again, not thinking about the customer. Groceries. At Wal-Mart, the unhealthy groceries outweigh the healthy groceries. High fructose corn syrup, aspartame, sodium & sugar levels and other synthetic additives are easier to find here than in other grocery stores. The entire cold cereal aisle is junk. Cereals you won't find in other countries like Germany because they've been banned, restricted or outlawed. The pharmacy. Wal-Mart has made the decision to stock their vitamin shelves with vitamins lacking 'GMP' stamps and 'Lab Tested' stamps on the rear labels. Read the ingredients on some of their vitamin bottles. Went in at 7am for an oil change was told if I didn't have an appointment it was a 3 hour wait mind you thet had not one bay occupied or any persons waiting or in the parking lot worst customer service will not be returning to this Walmart read more

Pretty much worst curbside pickup ever! (: Waited in my car for almost 45 minutes AND it was delayed 15 minutes PAST the time I placed it. I called about 3 times- straight to voicemail. I waited with about 15 other cars with no one coming out. Wont be ordering here again. read more

Automotive center was very helpful. Got me four new tires installed in less than 40 minutes like I was getting ready for a NASCAR race thank you and props to the technician and the manager for getting me the right tires. read more

I HATE Walmart. But you can't live without them Customer service sucks. The app doesn't work all the time. I have several hundred dollars of gift cards loaded on the app and there is a glitch that says use other form of payment WTF!! Walmart already has several hundred dollars I paid for the gift cards and now refuses to honor them even though the app shows several hundred dollars still on them. Customer service says. On one hand, this might one of the nicer Walmart in the area with a wide selection of items to choose from. Upon entering from the underground parking lot and riding up the escalators (or elevators), there is a decent grocery section to the right. The rest of the store is also grouped into common areas. For instance there's the pharmacy section, home goods, electronics, clothes, etc. Sometimes it might get overwhelming with all the items around and usually there's hardly any assistance available from the associates to look for anything. The worst is the checkout lines, where often times, there's only one line open. Instead everyone usually opts to stand in the self checkout line where there are prone to be errors. Since there's only one cashier attending to multiple self checkouts, it may take some time just to check out. All in all, we are usually able to navigate around the store with relative ease, just wish sometimes that there would be more helpful associates when we're in need of something either throughout the store or more cashiers at the registers to help check out. read more

Walmart Supercenter - Rotisserie Chicken! - Department Stores Near Me - Monona, Wisconsin

I have been shopping retail for decades and I have never, ever encountered such unpleasant, sometimes down right hostile associates. I realize they are unpaid and poorly trained and I try to take that into account, but darn, it's not the customers' fault. There are a few "bright stars" working there, but most seem to be "novas." Everything in their demeanor says, "I don't want to be here, and I really don't want to help you." When you call to ask a simply question and they put you on hold, and an hour later you are still on hold.... well I guess that says it all. I'm fortunate to live in an area where there are other stores to shop and I don't ever have to go back there again. read more

Just for future reference, this is about Walmart in Monona. I have been there since it opened up. It is mis managed and the customers are not being directed to their items. When I was there, the manager showed no help and laughed when I told him that a man was staring at me and it was happening every day I worked . He made burnt hot dogs one time for all the workers. I complained about 1 customer who was yelling at me and calling me profanities. I then got talked to and I never yell at customers and thanked everyone for their patronage and business. I then was coached by Paul who thinks he knows it all and just because he's bilingual. He never said anything positive and after I told him what happened he heard Ricko say something about how he jumped in to help and then Ricko who came up from Chicago who yells at the customers about where they should go to the line. The manager never watched anybody up front and actually is the worst manager I have ever worked for. I was told to help security get 2 girls who were shoplifting and they only called 1 parent . There are so many shoplifters each day that they don't have enough people to catch all of them. So I took 2 hours out of my day to work in security. The customers bring their dogs in at night and let them pee and poop all over the floor. There is no cleaner there at night. The kids who work there for a short time never get reprimanded for being on their cell phones. This is the most mis-managed Walmart I have ever seen. After 35 years of working with the puplic and I have an associates degree. Id give it a -0 score. read more

I placed an order online for a customized birthday cake, two days in advance of the party, bc all store bakeries require 48 hours advance notice. All good and smooth for TEN hours. Then, they canceled it. Now it is too late to get a cake anywhere else! The reason for canceling? They had too many orders. How does this make any sense, what kind of a system is this? They can TAKE the order, they just can't fulfill it. Sounds like a Seinfeld episode. Very frustrating and disappointing, and I am sharing this because I want the message to get to the management people that can change the way their system works. It is hard to find their employees beside the front desk and electronic. Last time I called, no one answered my call, so I had to be connected to the electronic depart just talk to someone about something that is no even electronic department related matter. Overall! Got picked up by my friend to go out to dinner. Left car at Walmart. Her car broke down and we couldn't get back. Called the store twice, rang forever with no answer. Looked it up and online said it's legal to park overnight so I didn't sweat it. Come back in morning to see It's been towed 20 mins away at $330. The customer service here is wonderful! I came late to my grocery pick up and it was closed! Any other Walmart would have told me I have to return the next day! But they got my order and happily helped me!! They have the best customer service! And will go over and beyond for everyone! I am so very happy this is the Walmart by my house if it wasn't I would drive a hour to come to them!! They told me that if there is a way to help a customer they will! I had to write a review because this place was on the Best-Of list. Look folks, I'm not being self-righteous... I just don't understand how any of us stand in line for the abuse that Wal-Mart deals out. 1) There are never enough lanes open. Go at night and there's always only 2 lanes open. 2) They pimp everything about the system including low wages/no benefits and as the 2nd LARGEST employer after state & federal government - any other business would be required to do better. I SAY IT OFTEN, but I am a Southerner and that entails....We LOVE WAL-MART but it's only because we were brought to the mother cow teet at such a young age and with various levels of need ....that we believe nothing else matters nor exists (depending on which other Southerner you talk to and on what day). Trust me my friends and old high school classmates whine about Wal-Mart enough on FB but keep going back for the abuse. In short, go to Shop-Ko, Family Dollar, Dollar General - heck even Target now that they have decided to get off their high bourgeoisie horse and offer PRICE MATCH. Oh! BTW, I do shop here and I've had to teach several cashiers over the years how to do a price match on their Registers. And nope~ I've never worked at a Wal-Mart in my life nor any of my family members.....TOLD YA WHEN HAVE BEEN BRAINWASHED TO ALWAYS GO TO WAL-MART.. To boot: It's over-priced. I wish I lived a life that didn't involve going to Wal-Mart, but the unfortunate truth is that when you're working on a budget you sometimes have to accept the life of low, low prices. Compared to many of the chain's locations, this one isn't terrible. The selection is huge, there are plenty of registers, there's underground parking that's nice in poor weather, and the employees seem happier than the average Wal-Mart worker. For the most part the store is kept pretty tidy and well-stocked. The bathrooms leave quite a bit to be desired, and are often downright disgusting, but I guess we can't have it all, can we? Are there better places to shop? Certainly. Does Wal-Mart meet my basic needs? Yes. If I can keep saving a few bucks at a time to spend locally elsewhere, I'll take the $3 bath towels. read more

Pros: Great meat department, underground parking. Cons: Inadequate staffing, unprofessional staff who walk away when you try to ask them a question about beef jerky seasoning, staff who hang up on you when you call from the Sporting Goods department because you've been patiently waiting for 28 minutes after pushing the "request service" button four times and you've called the store two times prior from your cell phone because no one has responded to the two overhead pages announced, and you know it's bad when you finally get to the checkout (they were out of the seasoning packets), and the lady behind you in line has a melt down in the store and just leaves her cart while she storms out swearing on her cell phone. It wasn't their best night. And it really showed on everyone else who was there. read more

Well. It's a walmart. Bathroom is definitely worse than most Walmarts. More things are out of stock and unorganized than other Walmarts. However, there is also more on clearance than other Walmarts which is a plus. It also has covered parking - woohoo. Overall, it's a Walmart. Slightly worse than most. read more

Pros: Open 24 hours, underground parking. Cons: Always busy. Often picked over. It's a Walmart. The worst Madison area Walmart is the west one. NOT open 24 hours, small, often out of stock, often a mess, and there's ALWAYS a line at customer service no matter when you go. One of the staff members I frequently encounter at customer service is rude. Sun Prairie and Stoughton are tied for best. More likely to be in stock. More likely to be clean. Never had an issue with the staff. Open 24 hours. Probably helps that they are further from Madison proper and therefore less trafficed. Madison East (Nakoosa Trail) would be similar except it's not 24 hours. read more

Walmart Supercenter (2151 Royal Ave, Monona, WI 53713) is a very nice store with almost anything your are looking for. It has an excellent Pharmacy, Photo Center, Vision & Glasses Department, Coinstar, key making in the sports department, Minute Key machine etc. Excellent garden center. Excellent grocery store, produce section, and bakery. Breads are excellent and super affordable. Has nice deli and hot food section for an easy dinner pickup. The store is very clean and organized. The shelves are always stocked and item are always available. Excellent location just off beltline highway. Easy to get to. Many registers always open. Can get congested at times at registers depending on time of day but normally short wait times at registers. Also love that they have self checkout registers. Prices are very reasonable with excellent quality and super exchange/return policy. The bathrooms are very clean and maintained. Above all, the employees are exceptional. They are helpful, friendly, courteous, helpful, and very knowledgeably...they are great! Great job Walmart and staff!!! Has a SUBWAY®Restaurant in the store which is very clean, well maintained, and has excellent/very friendly employees. Always fresh subs, meats, vegetables, like all Subway Subs I have visited. read more

I just called Monona Walmart Super Center looking for an item that I know they do not carry on a regular basis. They do purchase from the vendor/supplier Who has the item I am looking for. I called the front staff and they tried to forward me to the correct department, my bad I called too late to speak w the manager of that department. So I was then put through to the PM store manager. Very pleasant, he understood exactly what I needed and told me who and when to give a call back. I won't get stuck on the phone tree. Problem solved. read more

Worst service of all time! I was there today to ask for assistance on a coffee maker. After 15 minutes, Two managers helped me and confirmed that an item is the same as the online item. Asked me to have the cashier to price match for me! When I get to the cashier, she declined to do so. And after 10 minutes later, 3 more personnel came. One confirmed there are about 20 items in stock, one walked away to find who I talked to in the first place, and one department manager told me to wait 1 minute, after 15 mins still didn't come back and have no response whatsoever. So I asked them to search for them, will call back in 3 hours. Called after 3 hours, waited for 15 minutes to get to a person, asked for the situation resolution. Put me on hold again. 15 mins later, a person came and asked who transferred you??? And put me back on hold. Hung up and called to talk to manager on duty. The person answered took my number down and refused to give me his name. He said he will call back within 3 hours. No follow up whatsoever. What kind of manager can refuse to give his name? Out of all the Walmart in the Madison, I've always enjoyed going to this one. I adore the large parking lot they have because I know I can always find parking. I also love how there is a major parking lot near where the plant/garden/outdoor items. In addition, the layout of the store is pretty great. When you come up from the elevator, you enter the grocery section of Walmart, and if you walk about 200 steps, to the left is where the clothing is for everybody. I even found scrubs there for $6 each! I love how big the art section is, and I love how they have everything you might need in stock. On top of those two things, i love how cheap Walmart is because of me being a college student. My friend and I got about $75 worth of art supplies, which we knew if we were anywhere else it would cost us at least $150 or more. Another perk is the fact that it is 24 hours! I love the fact I can get anything I need at anytime. read more

The Walmart on Royal Avenue, Monona, is a very good store. We do 90% of our grocery shopping there-the prices and selection are excellent. If you engage with an employee on the floor, they are usually very helpful and will take you right to the item you are looking for. The store is always clean and there's not much you can't find, within reason. The only reason I rated a 4 rather than 5, is that they are usually short on cashiers on what I call the "garden center" end, the end off the outdoor parking lot. read more

I'm writing a review for the tire and lube express area. I don't like to use Wal-Mart for groceries. I drive a Toyota Camry and you see Toyota didn't make it easy for me to access the headlights to replace bulbs. So I knew WM did light bulb installation. I called and guy said no waits right now. I spaced out the fact that it was 5:00 on the beltline and I live in Middleton and have to make it to South Towne Drive. It was not a pleasant drive. When I get to Wal-Mart there is one person working the auto counter and 3 people ahead of me. I thought great, the sun was starting to get low and shined into your eyes, the fire alarms were going off in one part of the building and the line was moving slow. Just those different things irritate the crap out of you. Finally after 15 minutes of waiting the representative gets to me and asks me what I need, I advised headlight installation (I purchased 2 as you should replace in pairs). He entered my information and he advised it would be hour. So I venture off to electronics to look at tvs... I get bored there and head back to TLE I see my car wasn't outside so I thought sweet they're currently on it. 30 minutes later it is all done. All for $7.50 a headlight for installation. What drives me nuts about this Wal-Mart is that it always feels dirty inside.... The concrete outside is stained, the inside of the store seems unorganized. There is always some odd characters hanging out underneath trying to sell something to you. I think I will stick with my Wal-Mart on Watts road even though it's not a Supercenter. The lady swears by this place for groceries, but I prefer Woodman's (much bigger selection). I'm really not sure about prices. I should do more comparison shopping. If your food shopping is mainly done by list, and you rarely depart from it, and you don't need anything that's kinda hard to find, then go to Walmart for groceries. But if you're like me and you need to see things to get ideas for stuff to cook, then Woodman's is better. There's just so much more to choose from. What about Copp's? The Super Walmart located on Royal Ave. in Monona, WI is usually FILTHY. Hurricane Florence coming through it would've been cleaner. The freezers in the grocery area are constantly malfunctioning. The shopper best be wary especially when purchasing bread from this store. The 'Great Value' bread is likely to be burned on the bottom, moldy, or stale. Self-checkout is problematic. Lack of actual cashiers in checkouts is a HUGE problem. Getting help takes too long to obtain. Staff is often rude/difficult to discuss issues with. read more

When the economy sucks, this funplex of disposables and half-rate goods is a necessary evil. Like most other Americans, I'm a sucker big. As long as your not expecting quality, you can purchase whatever you want, cheaply ... The joint is massive, there's a bank, arcade, hair salon, Subway, covered parking garage, full size Wal Mart, full size supermarket and a UW lecture hall. Well, only of those items is false. If you dig Wal-Marts, are cheap and/or don't give a damn about the mom and pop shops that get gobbled up (well, there all closed now anyway) ... go for it. read more

You need better checkout. And why is the only checkout lane usually open at night the farthest away from the exit. I have trouble walking and that along with a usually long line and inexperienced checkout clerk make this a really bad experience for me. Remember Cub foods. They made you bag your own groceries. They went out of business. Walmart now pushes you to self checkout where you not only have to bag your own groceries, you have to ring them up also. That rarely goes without a problem. Also, who can get those plastic bags open to put the groceries in. The machine is saying you need to put it in the bagging area, but you can't get the bags open to put the item in.
