    Fried green tomatoes
    Nina Z.

Grabbed a tasting and a snack here while visiting the heaven hill distillery. The fried green tomatoes were delicious and obviously the bourbon. Food came out fast after ordering at the bar which there was a bit of a wait to do that. There's seating indoor and outdoor. We chose to sit outside since it was so nice out. It was a lovely view so I recommend you do too.

The best kale salad I've ever had. The dressing was delicious, and the portions were extremely generous. Not pictured, the fantastic pimento cheese balls, and bourbon ball chocolate cake. The food came out so quickly and the staff was incredible. This is such a nice hidden gem in Bardstown. They have a great sized dining room and even a private room for events.

If you are planning on touring the Heaven Hill distillery definitely grab a craft cocktail or a pour of one of the amazing selections from the Heaven Hill line. I had the pleasure of visiting the distillery in the past but never had the chance to experience the 5 Brothers bar. It's a gorgeous bar that is spacious and has indoor and outdoor seating areas. It was derby week when I went and they also had some musicians setting the mood for the bar. Amazing pour selections to be had here and unique offerings from their mixologists. They also offers some snacks as well. If you have time to kill before or after a tour take the flight up the stairs to this beautiful bar!

    Chicken sandwich with fries

Casual vibe. Fortunately we were able to come up after a tour. Service was excellent and the sandwich was fantastic. Great flavor and fry on the chicken. The fries were crispy and fresh. We had the Kentucky 75 and Getting Figgy with it. Both were delicious. The Kentucky 75 was very citrus forward. The Getting Figgy with it was sugary fig in an old fashioned. It was very sweet but very good. I could definitely see holding an event here, either a small wedding or retirement party. The space is very interesting with a great view of the Rickhouses from the patio. We will definitely be returning!

Great cocktail. Friendly staff. I just wished there were food options when we were there

Reuben Knife and Fork sandwich at Five Brothers Bar & Kitchen.

We decided to come to this establishment for lunch while in Bardstown, Kentucky. We both ordered the Reuben sandwich - well, it seems that now I'm spoiled for Reubens elsewhere in the world! The Reuben sandwich was the best that I've ever had, anywhere! Definitely warrants five stars! It came with fries and ketchup, tons of cheese, and loaded with corned beef! This is definitely a hardy sandwich for the extra hungry!

Once seated we were given some recommendations by our sever, Bethany, who did an excellent job of taking care of us. So we ended up ordering the Pulled Pork Platter & Shrimp & Grits. Our meals arrived in short order & everything was outstanding. Our only complaint was the acousticss were pretty awful which made carrying on a conversation a little difficult but I suppose there isn't much that can be done about that. All in all we were more than happy with our experience & we will absolutely return again in the future.

The shepherds pie was just okay. Green fried tomatoes were fine, but missing the mark on the sauce. We ordered a special, souvlaki chicken. It was two skewers of really small, burnt and overcooked chicken with peppers on a bed of what tasted like microwaveable rice. Totally missing the seasoned and bright-herbaceous mix of olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and oregano. Just go to the bar. Find some other place for dinner.

They created our birthday girl as a reservation for 2 instead of 6 and helped us surprise her at the table. The lighting is a bit dark but that helped the surprise. The manager brought out a sparkling wine and the chef sent out an amuse bouche. The pimento spread was so good we took a pint home for $20 (shhh secret). Our waitress Mo was professional a helpful with meal suggestions and separating some mushrooms for me. The shrimp appetizer is delicious and had 9 shrimp. The corn fitters come in 4 and Mo added 2. They were okay but I'd try something different in the future. The whole large kernels were odd in a light fritter. Our meals were fantastic. Everyone raved about bites of the filet and the chicken dish. The bolognese is a staple in the menu and was almost the perfect bite, perhaps a bit more meat in the sauce but the pasta was perfect. I had the wild boar and goat cheese polenta. The polenta didn't have a strong goatyness to it but was creamy, I ate it all. The boar was done to just short of falling off the bone. I used a piece of the grilled bread from my friends pasta to finish the meal. The wine list is short but complex. We had the Rioja red, so dry and smelled of old leather, but was a perfect wine to cut through the richness of the dishes. Our seat had a great view of the whiskey wall (almost every seat does) and it was a conversation piece the whole evening. Oh, forgot to mention the manhattan can be made into a black manhattan- outstanding. Best I've had in a restaurant. We are already making plans for our parties next birthday in July and will be asking for Mo. she was there at every turn throughout the meal. Pleasant and there to help at any point. The manager checked on us two times. WHP does fine dining so well. I haven't had such a wonderful evening for everyone in quite some time. We will be back and highly recommend. Will be sending out an executive's here when they are looking for L'ville dining. Well done. Sorry no pics, the room is dark and the ones I took don't do the meal justice.

Food 2.5/5: This obviously carries the most weight. The menu itself is excellent and the descriptions and components of each dish sound perfect. The execution was way off! Literally everything was far too salty and we ordered things that should not be salty... diver scallops and black cod. These are delicate proteins that don't need much help. Why oh why over-salt these?! Oddly the cook on both was very good but the seasoning ruined both dishes. Drinks 4.5/5: We had 3 different cocktails all of which were excellent.

During an early 2025 trip to Washington, D.C., we went to multiple establishments and, coincidentally or not, encountered this specific bourbon and just loved it. The most notable occurrence was at Jack Rose Dining Saloon, where I had literally the best Old-Fashioned I've ever had, using a special Angel's Envy that hung out in some sherry barrels for a while. Since then, we've both regularly ordered it when given the opportunity, and ultimately decided that the best way to appreciate this fine spirit was to go right to the source. So to the mothership we went. My chum did most of the heavy lifting here and scheduled a bourbon tour with Louisville Food Tours (very strong recommend) that featured Angel's Envy at the first stop. It's hard to really put into words what this building looks like as you walk in and explore, but it's just so...nice. It's classy without being inaccessible, and it just felt like a true cathedral of bourbon. As tasteful as the bourbon it makes. During our initial tour, we were probably in the distillery for a solid half hour plus, getting a quick tour of the still and fermenters before being led into a side room on the second floor to formally taste some bourbon. Paula was our guide, both during this tour and later on, and was just enormously impressive, which I touched upon in my review of the official tour as well. She's no-nonsense and loves her bourbon - who can't relate? We learned how to inspect the bourbon in the glass, to take a test sip to numb the pain receptors and to truly appreciate the subtle notes in the bourbon with the second sip. It was legitimately helpful, useful information that we're both going to utilize going forward. After our three-hour tour ended (go hard or go home), it wasn't even much of a discussion - we came back here for a few hours to soak in more of the atmosphere and drink some more bourbon. At this point, it was probably close to 5ish but the place was still pretty busy; somehow we were able to secure spots at the bar upstairs and made ourselves at home. I wish I could remember the name of our bartender (blame the time that has elapsed, not the bourbon), but he was very good, social without being oppressive and was just present and let us do our thing. After sipping straight bourbon for most of the afternoon, I switched to the Bourbon Renewal, which you'll be shocked to know includes Angel's Envy but is a more summer, fruit-forward cocktail and super refreshing. Was the right call and hit the spot. (We also got waters because that's the responsible thing to do.) We finally went back downstairs to the gift shop, which doesn't feel like the right term - it was more majestic than something you'd walk into after going through, say, a museum for an hour or two. It's enormous and offers numerous bourbons and also some very high quality swag. We reunited with our chum Paula and sampled their limited edition two-grain, which was created due to a fortunate mistake in which the rye wasn't added so it's just the corn and malted barley. You CAN see the difference and taste it; to me at least, it's more caramel-y than their normal single barrel. We each bought a bottle to bring back to the homeland. My chum basically bought half the store, but I remained calm/deliberate and my only other purchase was a MAGNIFICENT black hoodie. I'm not kidding - I love hoodies and have probably owned dozens over the years, and this is literally the best quality one I've had. It has this interesting front pouch pocket design with like a pocket within the pocket for high-priority items like your ID or credit cards, and the hood itself is interesting. It's just really good and I wore it all day the next day as we slowly made our way back to the East Coast. It's been washed and carefully placed in my closet, where it will reign supreme when the weather inevitably turns nippy again. It's not an exaggeration to say we probably spent hundreds of dollars (at least not thousands) directly and indirectly involving Angel's Envy on this trip. Worth it.
