I had an excellent experience doing acupuncture at Five Phases. If I could give 10 out of 5 stars I would, except Yelp simply doesn't go beyond 5 stars. Previously an acupuncture skeptic, I am now convinced that traditional medicine works and is great especially when used alongside modern medicine. Dr. Tae is world class in acupuncture and herbal medicine and has a lot of patience and empathy for his patients. I first started going to Dr. Tae because of a torn Achilles - he treated me pre-surgery to help with my anxiety and reccomended herbs to reduce post surgery inflammation. I was doubtful at first, but when my orthopedic saw the operated ankle, he was in shock at how minimal the swelling and inflammation was. Post surgery, Dr. Tae performed acupuncture to help with inflammation, pain, scarring, healing/strengthening of the surgical area - all of this (alongside PT) pushed me on the recovery fast track and sped up the process to literally help me get back on my feet. The whole process is calming and gentle and the environment is relaxing. I find acupuncture to be a valuable complementary therapy alongside my regular health routine. I went here a number of years ago. This was my last hope! I was desperation to get some help,. Was highly recommended by one of his patients that I knew. Well, I can't say enough about Tay. Not only did he help me, but he taught me to respect other way of healing.. he is an excellent acupuncturist. His treatments are done with experience quality and care. very very weird guy. I came to him after i advised him that I can't tolerate any needles pain and to go very gentle with me . he kind of got upset about it and claimed that I am trying to "control" the session so eventually he said he can help with stretches but refused to hear any diagnosis from the xRay and MRI I had . last session while I am laying on my back and in front of someone else he came to me and with his finger pointed at me told my I am very very rude to share the MRI results with him because doctors don't know to heal and again -I am trying to "control" him. that "pleasure " of knowing him costed me $360 for 3 session in which he hardly work with me more than net 10 min per "session" (not to mention last time he treated my Healthy leg instead the other one which I now have pain there and not any improvement for the leg I came from read more

I went to Tae after being diagnosed with Bell's Palsy a few weeks ago. Tae was kind, patient, and understanding and made me feel positive and hopeful as soon as I walked in the door. Tae immediately started me on a regime of acupuncture and electrodes 2-3x a week and within 3 treatments I saw a huge difference!! Over the past two years I have been having a lot of inflammation in my body. After going from one dr to dr and medication after medication I came across Five Phases acupuncture. While discussing at my first session why I was there he pointed out my neck. My neck that I have been in pain for the past year and no one has answers for me. In one session I noticed a change a small change but enough to notice and that I left there and slept without pain. I also have digestive issues and lots of stomach inflammation. I had never had acupuncture. Dr Tae had me try acupuncture on my stomach. I went away for the weekend and did not feel my acid reflux act up once. I started going to Tae because of high levels of inflammation in by body due to an infection. I have always been against taking medication if I could avoid it. However, the inflammation was unbearable, causing body aches, daily headaches, brain fog, etc. This lasted a few months before I went to Tae. Within the first week of going to him, I stopped experiencing brain fog and haven't ever since. After that, Tae and I decided to work on my allergies. I used to walk outside around spring time and my eyes would immediately start burning. It had been so bad at times that I would need to pull over while driving they burnt so much. I never thought that acupuncture could help with my allergies. I knew that acupuncture could probably help with muscles aches and things like that. However, I never thought it could essentially cure me of my allergies. Within a few sessions, I completed stop experiencing them. I barely even notice its spring time because I feel nothing anymore. Everyone at five phases acupuncture is stellar! Tae treated my moms Bell's palsy, and it went 95 percent back to normal within a matter of 7 to 10 treatments! I myself have been treated on numerous occasions, and have always found relief from whatever my ailment seemed to be at the time. Be it exhaustion, pain, allergies, difficulty memorizing things for school, he has treated it all for me with great success. I would highly recommend Tae to anyone looking to experience acupuncture for the first time, looking for someone to continue their treatments from another practitioner, or to find the solution to very difficult cases. I go every week for occupational therapy on my thumb with Nick. He's great and has helped me tremendously regaining the motion and feeling in my thumb. I have been able to completely restore full motion to my thumb after becoming infected with Necrotising fasciitis. While I was receiving treatment for my thumb, I asked one of the physicals therapists Tae about my knee. I've been an athlete all my life. Early on we discovered that I had problems with my knees. After many visits to many doctors, it was determined that I had missed placed kneecaps. In high school I excelled at cross country and track and field. We tried orthotics which were extremely painful and I had settled for a brace and weekly physical therapy with exercises, heat, ice and even e-stim....Nothing seemed to work. When I went to college my physical therapist decided I should try orthotics again. The schools trainer asked if I was on scholarship. When I replied no. He said "Good, I didn't want to think we received damage goods. " I've been living with the pain since then. Fearing the inevitable surgery when the pain got unbearable. Week after week I watched Tae and his patients. One five minute session with him and for the first time in 17 years I was walking without pain! Don't believe me, come down yourself! Went here a few years ago for treatment of back pain. Tae is good at what he does but I have found that there are many excellent acupuncturists in LI. I am leaving this review because I felt uncomfortable with an arrangement he offered to collect maximum insurance money from me, which he worded in a way to appear altruistic when in hindsight it was a way for him to receive the most benefits. I am not sure if this is called insurance fraud but just wanted to share so that whichever future clients he approaches about this will be warned. Other than that, his attending skills can range from kind/caring to abrupt/rude based on his mood. read more

I began attending acupuncture for neck pain years back. When Tae found out in conversation that I suffered from bad seasonal allergies that had become year round he suggested we try his allergy protocol. Now my allergies weren't managed well with over the counter meds (I still struggled with itchy watery eyes, sneezing, and a runny nose that would inevitably become post nasal drip - and this was with medication). The protocol consisted of 10 sessions with needles in a variety of places including stomach, hands, and feet. The hands and feet were a little sensitive but didn't hurt! After the first three sessions I was already able to stop my seasonal medications. By the tenth session I felt great. I didn't have seasonal allergies for years! This most recent spring/summer I began noticing I was sneezing a little again, so I asked Tae if he would recommend a "tune-up". A single session later and I am back on track. I went to 5 Pillars for a painful chest cold today. (I'm a bit leery of all the over prescribing of antibiotics these days) The acupuncture stopped my chest pain within the first few minutes. After the entire acupuncture treatment, cupping, guided stretching for more breath-room, I felt so much better. I could breath again! Tae was professional, organized, confident, careful, and sent me home with breathing exercises, and motivation to continue with a few weekly treatments. I was seen on time. Nice clean facility. I came to see Tae at Five Phases about a month ago for acupuncture. I had a lot of pain on the back of my neck and left shoulder from whiplash and pinched nerves. My review for Tae is long overdue. During each spring my son has really bad seasonal allergies. I really do not like to medicate him with all the drugs and to make it worst, Benadryl and Claritin doesn't do much for him. I was looking for a more natural way to deal with the torturous symptom. I took my son to Five Phases for treatment last year and continued this year for a booster. Tae is very patient with kids. My son doesn't like needles but Tae was able to make him feel at ease. He likes Tae. During each treatment, my son always falls into a deep sleep. You can tell that the treatment is working and my son doesn't mind getting acupuncture as long as he feels better. Tae is very knowledgeable and professional about his craft. You can tell he genuinely care about his patient and does everything above and beyond to get you feeling better. I've been to many acupuncturists in Chinatown and Flushing and Tae is by far the best bet with kids. He would even suggest food diet to help with my son's mild ADAD. The office is newly renovated and very clean. He is reasonably priced for all his treatments from sport injuries to acupuncture. I came to Tae in a state of desperation. I travel from Stamford CT (over 50 minutes of travel) to gain relief from a C7 disc herniation which left me incapacitated. I was having severe symptoms including muscle cramps and spasms, numbness all the way down my arm and to my finger tips. I was experiencing weakness in my grip strength and in my ability to carry or move objects both great and small. The simplest of tasks became a great ordeal of needing to coordinate someone to be there to drive me to doctor appointments and the pharmacy and to do errands. By the time I came to Tae, I could no longer grocery shop on my own, make critical decisions or be trusted with a kitchen knife. My doctors put me on a cocktail of Percocet, muscle relaxers and nerve medications. I was a zombie and miserable. The pain blinded me to all else and my quality of life degraded to that of a couch potato, just waiting for someone to be able to come over to help me. I went to Tae because a coworker suggested him to me. She believed that he could help me. I was at the end of my rope and I said; "What do I have to lose? Yeah it's far for me but what if it does work?" It was the best decision I have ever made. Not only did Tae take time with me and compassionately listen to everything I had to say but he made me feel hope. A four letter word I had forgotten. Today, I am not 100%, but I no longer rely on prescriptions to dull my senses and can take back my life. I am able to work and function in the world.
