It had a coupon for $12 off!! We called on Tuesday night about 7:45 (they closed at 9) and talked to Teresa who was able to schedule our foursome for a trip at 2:00 on Wednesday. She was so helpful and gave us some tips for travel to Hartford. Once we got there we checked in with a very competent and thorough young lady. We took a short bus ride to the "put in" point. On the 10 minute ride some of the guides performed fun comedic routines which kept us from thinking about how hot we were on a bus with no AC ( except open windows), decked out in life jackets and helmets while holding our paddles upright. :-) We got paired with a river rafting guide named Brantley. He gave us great paddling instructions before we even entered the raft. Since we had all been river rafting before, he explained that the trick to having a more exciting trip is to synchronize your paddle strokes. We had a great time with Brantley. We truly appreciate his concern for our "fun factor" and especially our safe trip down the river.

Our guide Johnny was on his first ride and did a super job, Tristan was supervising. They both were funny, kind, and provided an all around great experience. They aren't as commercial as the other boats, so we experienced a more chill ride in my opinion. I heard some of the other guides hollering at their rafters, "paddle, paddle, paddle!"! I'm so glad this place doesn't employ drill sergeants lol This was my first time water rafting and I chose the level 3/4 route. I'm so glad I did because we were able to experience some amazing splashes! Yes, you will be drenched on this route, and I loved every second of it! You have to paddle, and I was paired up with an amazing group of 5 other people who I immediately meshed well with! If you're thinking about white water rafting, do it! I will say, I'm not the most adventurous when it comes to water, but there were 2 places where the water was level and calm that my guide let us jump out and swim. Again, I am usually not one to do something like this, but it was my birthday so I allowed myself to totally embrace the moment. The water felt amazing, and I had the time of my life!

We had a 2pm start (1:30pm arrival) and were the only people registered so private ebike tour for us. TJ was our guide and he was training someone so we ended up with 2 guides, which was great. Both of them were very knowledgable about Asheville, nature (i learned what poison ivy looks like) and biking. It took me a few minutes to get my ebike bearings, but then were off. The first part of the ride was on gravel, which was a little tricky, but it was all good when we hit the road. It also started raining and we got pretty wet...i couldn't decide if the rain made the ride miserable or more fun. Maybe both! The biking itself wasn't too hard and honestly we probably could have done it on regular bikes and gotten a workout, but i do find ebiking super fun. We stopped a few times, which helped with our sore butts and learned about the area. A few hours later we said goodbye to our new friends and headed back to Asheville (about an hour away). They also offer many other activities like white water rafting so recommended if you're looking for a little adventure.

The rapids were not as crazy as they were last time we went a few years ago but it was still fun. However, our guide Caleb (who is probably a perfectly nice guy under different circumstances) does not have a clue how to interact with kids. His irritation that we had children in our party (and non-athletic kids who needed guidance on how to paddle at that) was quite apparent for the entire duration of our voyage. It put me on edge, feeling like I had to be apologetic for not having raised big strapping boys who'd spent their summers on the water, and I ended up spending the time barking orders at my kids because I was nicer about it than he was, and wanted him to lay off. At one point he started shouting at us all to paddle, then immediately realized we were paddling straight into a cluster of rocks and told us to stop - but it was too late. My eldest son and I went flying over the side of the raft. He was plucked from the water immediately, but I wasn't so lucky. My husband held out his oar for me to grab onto, but by then the raft was already too far away. I followed the instructions I had been given for such an event, floating and bobbing along until another raft pulled upside of me and was able to pull me aboard. Mind you, this experience didn't upset me: I didn't get hurt, I never felt I was in any real danger, and now I had a story to tell. But when my rescue raft dropped me off in the raft with my family, Caleb proceeded to chew me out for "letting go of the raft" (huh? I was never holding onto the raft?) Later on, my kids told me that after I'd fallen over, when no one knew how to proceed (try to save mom or keep moving?) he actually screamed at them to "Paddle, damnit!" The views were absolutely gorgeous. And we got to see a bald eagle.

Thankfully, I noticed it when we were very close to a rest area, so we did not end up stranded on the side of the road. Triple A came out, and all was well, but we missed our original rafting time. When we called NOC Upper Pigeon, they allowed us to reschedule for the next day without any fee or hassle. I was very grateful for that because it would have been awful to have to pay again just because we missed it. The check-in process was very smooth. Everything was clearly explained; the instructions were easy to follow, the bus ride was short, and the bus was clean. "@b****nee" was our guide, and she was really great at her job. You could tell she genuinely enjoyed it, and she shared a lot of interesting information about the river. One of the best parts was that she tried to get a sense of whether we wanted a more adventurous ride or something a little calmer. Being able to tailor the experience a bit to what we wanted made it even better. At one of the rapids, I ended up falling out of the raft (it happens), and "@b****nee" basically turned into Hercules and helped me get back in easily. I am not someone who is very easy to please, but @b****nee was excellent. You can tell she enjoys what she does, and she was also very hospitable, professional, and reassuring throughout the trip. Overall, it was a great experience.
