After finally moving back to the Lou to raise a family we decided to rejoin the club to partake in the swimming and the tennis courts. The decor really hasn't changed much in several decades. The same wooden doors grace the entrance and the same smell and sound of indoor tennis permeates once you walk in. They dining room has been nicely expanded and looks very comfortable. There are about 9 rubberized indoor courts. The rubberized courts are fairly unique in St. Louis. They are much easier on the knees while chasing down tennis balls. They did install volleyball/basketball courts in the lower level along with a rehab and sports fitness center. The use of which is all included in a full club membership. Not too bad! Outdoor courts are incredible. There are about 15 courts in total but 6 of these are true "clay" courts. Also a hard find in St. Louis as they are harder to maintain. If you like French open tennis then check these clay courts out! No grass courts however. On the top lawn they have a small croquet pad as well. My kiddos love the swimming pool. Designed for both lap swim and leisure. They have a small kiddie pool just right for toddlers and plenty of covered tables and seating around the pool. Different days of the week they have food specials. Our favorite is the taco Tuesdays! Life guards always on duty.

In addition, a membership for Silver Sneakers is free. Many mornings I am the only person walking the lap lanes. Not because there are few members but because they open at 5:30 AM and everybody is not an early bird. The gym is very clean! It has two rooms equipped with every type of weight machines or cycles or treadmills. Also, free weights, kettlebells and ping pong is available. There is a soccer court and basketball court. This community gym has got a lot going for it, but it's not quite perfect…read more The things I like about this gym are: 1) Plenty machines so you never really have to wait for one 2) For a community gym, it's really very clean and the premises are quite grand 2) Airy, open space with a view out onto some grass rather than, say, a busy road 3) Very good membership rates, especially for local residents - we pay $40 a month for the two of us 4) There's an indoor running track 5) A somewhat decent selection of classes 6) The clientele is generally low key rather than scary muscle men putting your work-out to shame Things that I feel are a problem: 1) The Sunday closing time of 5pm 2) The scales are often broken 3) The people who work there don't really have a clue what's going on. I had to change my bank details for the monthly payment, and it took me the best part of a month to find an employee who could actually handle this task 4) You have to give 3 months' notice to cancel 5) There's no pay-as-you-go for classes. You have to pick one time that you're going to come every week and sign up for a whole "session" which goes on for 10 weeks or so, and pay upfront for the whole session 6) There's no Body Pump class - a personal favorite of mine 7) Sometimes the "low key clientele" like to stare at you as you puff away on the treadmill because all they're doing is walking at a 2mph pace, so they need some entertainment Looking over the two lists above, it seems as though there's really more negatives than positives, so it's somewhat surprising that I'm giving this gym 4 stars. I think what saves it for me is the low monthly price and the fact that it's a no-frills, let-you-get-on-with-it kind of gym - they're not constantly trying to sell you a "premium" membership, or get you to refer friends, like some other gyms - and what you see is what you really get as far as membership is concerned. They had a desk as soon as you walk down to greet you and see if you needed any assistance. We have personally been here a few times for family events or functions. Our kids always have a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoy going back. Our kids also always make friends which is great. There are tons of events such as kids night out, breakfast with Santa, princess dances with dad and much more I highly recommend following them and keeping an eye on all the upcoming events! Rude front desk staff ruined the experience…read more On June 21 around 1 PM, I came to the facility with my sisters, excited to enjoy a swim. Unfortunately, the indoor pool was at capacity--which is completely understandable. What wasn't okay was how the front desk staff spoke to us when we arrived. Instead of simply informing us the pool was full, the woman at the desk said, "Y'all was ready to go swimming, huh?" in a tone that came off sarcastic and dismissive. It felt like we were being mocked for just showing up ready to enjoy the amenities. We didn't cause any trouble--we just wanted to enjoy our day. But that comment and her attitude made us feel extremely unwelcome and embarrassed for no reason. That's not how guests should be treated, especially not when they're following the rules and coming in with good intentions. We ended up going to the outdoor pool instead, but the interaction at the front desk stuck with me. A little professionalism and courtesy would've gone a long way. I hope management seriously considers retraining staff on how to speak to guests respectfully--because this was a major disappointment.
