BUT, I can say as a current graduate student of occupational therapy (shameless plug, if you have no idea what that is, ask me!) who has spent a lot of time in various assisted living facilities, this place is GREAT! I got a chance to speak to some of the residents while assessing the facility & the community is beautiful! The facilities are in tip-top shape & the services provided are above average. The staff seem to be very friendly & in-tune with the residents. When I'm 85+ & still kickin', please send me here!

OMG... My mother-in-law lived at Hawthorne Place Assisted Living apartments for over 2 years. It…read morewas wonderful. The apt was comfortable and decent size. We were lucky enough to be able to wait for a patio apt to become available, which for our 'Oma/Mom' made all the difference for her as she was a big time nature lover. The gardening is gorgeous. The STAFF IS AMAZING from Lisa in the front office to CNAs to nurses and house cleaning. I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH NICE THINGS! They worked so hard to ensure that 'Mom' was not only well cared for, but loved!! And when the end came near, they so kindly worked with us during Mom's short time in hospice, we were able to keep her in her home until she passed. We will be FOREVER grateful to everyone at HP. We all actually MISS seeing everyone regularly, including other residents. They became friends. :-)

I would highly recommend staying far away from this facility. My 87-year old mother lived there for…read morethe past year, until July when she fell in her bathroom and broke her hip. She fell at 2am on a Sunday. The facility is supposed to check on their residents by 9 am. No one checked on my mother that day at all. Infuriating. I talk with mother usually every Sunday so when I didn't hear back from her by Monday morning, I called Crestview to do a wellness check. Tori said she went to check on mom and said that mom was just tired but okay. So it took me calling to get them to check on her. Turns out that later in the day, another gal named Lisa, found my mom at 3pm still lying on the bathroom floor, in pain. She called 911 and my mom was taken to the hospital - after lying on the floor for 37 hours. So much for good care. We found a new place for mom and when I went to clean our mom's apt at Crestview last week, the director Christina asked to speak to me. She denied that we had left her any voice messages and said she didn't receive any - from myself, my aunt and also mom's social worker. Christina insisted we give a written 30-day notice and that mom has to pay for September rent despite her move being involuntary, as she can no longer live independently. I asked Christina if there was any way we could reach an agreement since we are not a litigious family, but she was unwilling to budge at all. OH, P.S. The State of Missouri is now investigating them for the elder abuse.

We have used a few services that you pay for such as Senior Helpers when she had a wound that needed daily tending and that was very helpful and reassuring. Also the on-site salon for haircuts and pedicures is convenient. One huge downside to caution about is that meals are not served at all on Sunday nights. This has been burdensome for our family and other residents have grumbled about this repeatedly. They get used to not cooking and then there is no meal and families are not always able to help. So then it's cold leftovers or PBJ. But that is the only down side, other than that, it's a wonderful place and we would recommend it!

Staff members smelled of marijuana. As soon as you open the door to the Memory Care floor, you can smell urine. Chairs & couches in community lounge reek of urine. How hard would it be to cover them in plastic or a waterproof fabric. Had to ask numerous times for someone to mop floor of room b/c it was sticky when aunt moved in and bathroom smelled bad. Staff didn't follow doctor's orders. The staff ask nice, but never follow through on what is asked of them. We were totally bamboozled by the sales lady.

Mom was a registered nurse until she retired at the ripe old age of 83 and the last 30+ years of her career was spent in nursing homes and care facilities, so she knew what she wanted in one for herself. While Mom was at Southview, she was well taken care of, and despite having a difficult personality (to say the least...), the staff was always friendly and accommodating whenever I came to visit and as I watched my mom interact with them. The facility was clean, attractive, and updated. It is a smaller facility, which is what my mom wanted, and there were many activities available. My mom's space was perfect for her while she was a resident there.

This is the second review I have posted in re to this facility. The first one was two weeks ago when I posted a one star, due to having a loved one in the Memory Care unit,and in a year,especially the last few months saw it seriously decline,and was witness to some disturbing incidences,and lack of any kind of sense. I am now giving three stars due to how quickly and efficiently they responded,and took action. Clearly they pay attention to reviews. Two days after posting my initial review,this unit had done a 180° ! Employees who were problematic had been let go,the staff was working as a diligent team,treating eachother and residents with help and kindness without bickering or complaining,tasks getting done in a routine manner,and more managers present. I emailed them to let them know how impressed I was with what I saw and then had a terrific conversation with the overall director . She took no sides,just addressed and took action professionally. It has been so different visiting my "Nona" this last 4 visits,and I give kudos to them for their attention to addressing their problems .

Two separate pool areas; one is kid-friendly and has a lazy river that circles…read morethat entire kid area and the other pool is standard pool that is 5' - 13' deep with swimming lanes, 2 diving boards, and basketball area. The seats with umbrellas fill up quickly, so if that's important to you, get there when they open. Concession stand is standard, but they do seem to run out of things. Bathrooms are always clean. You're not allowed to eat food in the pool area, only by the concession stand, so don't be surprised if a lifeguard calls you (or your kid) out for having food in the pool area. Highly recommend!
