After professional cleanup, the headache of dealing with an insurance adjuster, and the due diligence of meeting with multiple contractors to get bids on putting the basement back together, we went with Rentz Remodeling and Contracting. And wow. The difference between someone like Matt Rentz and other contractors we've dealt with has been night and day. A selfish part of me wants to keep this knowledge to myself, in case we need him again, but he's too good NOT to share. First of all, his bid was extremely fair. Since we were dealing with repairs and not an elective home remodel, we didn't have a ton of money set aside. Just what was left of insurance after a not-great cleanup crew charged us through the nose. Matt detailed out everything he would do to fix the basement, with line items for both labor and cost of materials. There was no guessing or having to ask for more detail; he came prepared with paperwork and was always extremely open about what everything cost. Secondly, he and his crew were incredibly polite and professional. In a pandemic, having new people in your house is always a little anxiety-provoking. The first thing they did when they arrived is put up a plastic zip door between the basement stairs and the rest of the house. And they never came through it into the main house. We worked out a system where he would text if he needed to ask any questions, which meant I could go anywhere in the house without worrying that I couldn't hear them if they needed anything. But for the most part, they came and went according to the needs of the work, and I didn't have to do much of anything at all. Thirdly, Matt and his crew are not just great contractors, but good guys. We had a problem with the hose discharge line for our sump pump freezing over during a cold snap, so my husband had temporarily removed it. Matt noticed and pointed out that he'd seen excess water leak through basement walls before, and texted with me about potential solutions we could try ourselves to keep it functional through the winter. Not an upsell--but just because he had knowledge he thought we could use. I'd recommend Rentz Remodeling and Contracting to anyone. (I've already given his name to a few friends.) And the next time we need anything done around the house, these guys are at the top of my list. A++, 10/10.

I came into possession of a very dirty, very damaged house…read more I called "Lil Dan Handyman" and he arrived every day to clean the house. It was truly amazing that Dan was able and willing to tackle any and every cleaning job needed at that house (and there were many!!). Dan also tackled every repair job (and again, there were many). In addition, he did a wonderful job of salvaging the kitchen cupboards and doors, to save me money instead of having to replace them. He washed every floor and wall in the house. To top it all off, after washing the walls and baseboards, Dan painted all of them so that I had a crisp looking home in the end. He also repaired the porch that was in disrepair, and power-washed the outside of the house as well as the porch. He coated the porch 2x with the whitest of white paint, so now I can feel proud of how the house looks from the street. Dan determined what was needed and let me know his progress, sent before and after pictures, and was a pleasure to deal with every day. He didn't stop at the inside of the house. He cleaned up the neglected, overgrown backyard and front yard. Dan transformed my house from one that appeared utterly uninhabitable, to a house that is a comfortable home. I will be forever grateful to Dan for that. Dan worked at an extremely reasonable rate. I was very fortunate to have been able to contract with Dan for the many problem areas in that house. He gave me the gift of a house I am comfortable to be in, and a house I where I am proud to invite friends to visit. Since that time I have called on Dan to help out with rental properties, and he shows up every time, diagnoses the problem promptly, and does the repairs, whether it is DRYWALL repairs, painting, cleaning, outdoor maintenance, eavestrough cleaning, or general maintenance. Dan was very responsive to texts and calls and was able to schedule the job quicker than I originally thought. While working on the repair, Dan identified the cause of the cracks in the ceiling, and he suggested another solution that saved me $100's off of the original quote. He says, "Either pay the $800 extra I am demanding or I don't come back and stand by the year warranty," Also, my cathedral ceiling drywall is already showing a huge line all the way down it and it is going to crack in time before you know it.
