I think everyone should try camping on Flamenco Beach at least once in their lives. It is all of the good things about camping, with none of the bad. You sleep 20 ft from one of the world's most beautiful beaches. Try to bring a tent with a convertible top - it rarely rains and the stars are unbelieveable. Incredibly safe, and during the winter it's not crowded, as the busy time is summer when families come over from the main island. Outdoor showers, remarkably clean bathrooms, a few nice kioskos that open at 8am, and serve great cappucino and breakfast sandwiches, marlin kebabs for lunch, and rent snorkel gear etc. You can cook on the cement fire pits, too, although they are kind of crumbling. A 20 minute hike (only access) to some of the most amazing snorkeling i've ever experienced on Playa Carlos Rosario. Around the campground, esp the kioskos, there are stray cats and chickens (how they coexist is a mystery), but they are not a great nuisance, and the cats were not nasty. We spotted some night herons, too. Watch out for the fire ants-they ARE nasty. Make sure you always zip your tent up, and don't set up camp on a nest. All for $20/ tent per night. If you've ever fantasized about being a castaway, this is pretty close. Oh, and if you don't have a car, a publico frequently stops by for 2 or 3 bucks, but it doesn't run late into the night. read more
