If I were to do it over again I'd schedule a daytime tour of the lighthouse and skip the lagoon all together.

In this bay is more like glowing twinkles in the water. You can get here on your own, renting your own kayak and I've also heard they offer a walking tour of the bay. We reserved a tour with a local kayak company in order to access the bay. If you are an experience kayaker, I would recommend you rent a kayak and go on your own. However, be aware that tours happen at 6 and 8 and the mangrove canal is packed. All in all, it's a beautiful bay both during night and during daylight.

I brought my kids back in July 2026 hoping to share that same experience, but the bioluminescence has faded dramatically. What was once a stunning light show is now barely a flicker. Tour operators still run the same trips at the same price without setting proper expectations -- understandable since it's their business, but disappointing for visitors. Practical tip: don't bother waiting for a later evening tour hoping for better glow. At this point it's just a regular kayak trip -- the only difference later at night is that you're paddling in the dark instead of at dusk. If you want a nice kayak outing, it's fine. If you're chasing the bioluminescent magic this place is famous for, temper your expectations.

You book a tour for the Bio Bay and at different times of the moon there is ZERO visibility and you get under a tarp with one inch of room if you push the next kayak that you are tied up to splash and to even see a spec of the bioluminescence! This is a complete joke and not worth your money!! When complained and asked for refund the customer service from the manager Alex was absolutely horrible!! And said you are buying a night kayaking!? Even though the description says bio bay? And why would you go kayaking at night?? Unreal!! Then he hung up on me! Great customer service! Save your money and do NOT book this tour!

No, the bay does not glow at night even if it is very dark out. Yes, kayaking is work. If you haven't done it before, it can be challenging. I don't know if I would recommend it if you're not very familiar with how to kayak and if that's the case, there are other options to seeing the bioluminescent organisms. I was nervous when we first walked toward the kayaks because there were so many other companies going at the same time. However, this wasn't really an issue as all of the guides were really helpful in keeping the group together. I found the kayaking to be fine, but I'm a decently experienced kayaker. Arriving in the bay at first may seem disappointing because it isn't glowing, but our guides were great and provided tents so you could actually see the glow! It was so worth it. I will say that once you're out on the bay, there's not really a point in taking pictures. It is hard to angle your camera so you can see the glow without dropping your phone/camera in the water. You really don't need to bring anything with you in the kayaks so I'd recommend leaving your phone and wallet in the car. The guides will hold on to your car key at the front kiosk!

From the moment we stepped on board, Cesar treated us like family. He didn't just take us to the usual crowded spots--he brought us to private, breathtaking areas where the coral reefs were absolutely stunning. We snorkeled in crystal-clear water, swam alongside sea turtles, and even spotted manatees and stingrays... it felt like something out of a documentary. And the food... unbelievable. This wasn't your typical "snack" boat. We had all-you-can-eat snacks and drinks for both the kids and adults, plus an incredible onboard spread: fresh shrimp cocktail, perfectly grilled skirt steak, grilled chicken, garlic bread, and then topped it all off with a huge assortment of fresh fruit. It felt like a private floating restaurant. But what really made this trip special was Cesar himself. His energy, hospitality, and genuine care made the entire experience unforgettable. He went above and beyond to make sure every single one of us had an amazing time. We made memories on this trip that will last a lifetime, and we truly can't thank Cesar enough. If you want an experience that's personal, fun, and absolutely unforgettable--this is it.

We knew we didn't want to go on one of those huge catamarans so after research my wife chose vipsnorkeling.com which is part of serenity tours. What can I say. From the moment we met captain Cesar we thought we would have a good time but it was the absolute highlight of our entire week in Puerto Rico. The boat was spotless and Captain Cesar explained every aspect of the trip and how we controlled what we did. We went out to some fantastic reefs and he really knew what we was doing. We felt safe on the water, we had a fantastic time snorkeling, all the equipment was in great condition and when we got back on the boat, we had a beautifully prepared lunch platter waiting for us and full bar. Wow!! Captain was an absolute pleasure and highly professional. We would book with them again in a moment and recommend them to anyone who wants to have a private tour and feel like your money is totally well spent. Great job Captain Cesar!

We arrived on time and we were warmly greeted by the captain and 2 crew. After a basic safety briefing we charted out towards Culebra in overcast weather. Instead of Culebra we settled on the uninhabited beach of Caya Luis Pena before Culebra with crystal clear waters in about 20 minutes. The waters were translucent clear turquoise and beach sand was pristine. Water temp was around 79-80F. Weather was overcast and comfortably cool. They laid out a simple light sandwich buffet for lunch with beers and tropical cocktails. Snorkeling, swimming and relaxing for a few hours, we spotted small schools of fish and a very cool bachelor Stingray circling looking for scraps. Crew was incredibly friendly and helpful and everyone enjoyed the short beach visit. The return trip was much smoother and after jumping back on the bus we were able to stop by a bbq joint for coconuts and fried stuffed empanadas.
