The Salmon was another seafood restaurant on our list of places to eat while in Oslo…read more It was located in Aker Brygge which was a newer and expensive neighborhood. There was both indoor and covered outdoor seating. We did not have a reservation but came early enough to snag an inside table. It was the right choice as the rain really started to come down about that time. One caveat was that we had to wrap up our meal within 1.5 hours which wasn't a problem for us. The menu was unique as it was printed inside a newspaper. One just had to flip pages to find the drink, food and dessert menus. Given the namesake of the restaurant we opted to try three different salmon preparations: Our favorite dish was the salmon tataki which was lightly grilled in a ponzu sauce. If it was larger then we would've gladly eaten this as a main dish. The grilled salmon came in second as it was perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes were a great accompaniment, creamy with truffle flavors. Our least favorite was the hot smoked salmon and pasta salad. There was an unusual taste to the pasta salad that detracted from the salmon. Service was just ok and it took a long while before we could get any attention to close our check. While tipping wasn't expected in Norway, the Salmon's credit card terminals start with a tipping option screen before you can pay. If you're curious about salmon farming in Norway then check out the exhibit at the other end of the restaurant.

The Salmon does an excellent job of showcasing the fresh and wonderful quality of salmon in many different dishes. The tasting plate was one of the best dishes they had. There were three different pieces of salmon with different accompaniment. I don't remember the exact cuts, but one was Lox, and the other was a cold smoke. My guest got a ginger salmon salad she loved. We also got the torched salmon nigiri to taste. The hype is real! This is definitely a must try! They get extremely busy, so a reservation is a must! They had indoor and outdoor seating with a heated patio (it was a bit chilly when we were there).

The best meal we had in Oslo!…read more Food: Amazing food, I ordered the oxtail and my boyfriend had the fish. They were both phenomenal. Beautiful presentation and great flavor. They also brought out a starter and a side of roasted veggies on the house. Service: great service! They took our coats at the door, checked on us regularly, we're very kind, and even brought us those extra bites:) Ambiance: beautiful restaurant, looks like it's attached to a hotel. Definitely dressy-casual at least, it would be a great place for a work dinner or nice family gathering. Price: About $30 (300 NOK) per main course. Overall: absolutely loved it. Would highly recommend!

I came here for breakfast and dinner…read more This restaurant says paleo in its name - but a lot of the menu items have milk in it which is not paleo, so if you're looking for strict paleo, this is not strictly paleo. However, the restaurant does holds true to the grain free and gluten free concept of paleo. Food was very good. We were surprised that a complimentary starter of celery chips and prosciutto with wild mushroom mayo was served. Additionally - a side of beets was served for the entire table which was also part of the meal but not on the menu, so pleasant surprises. The food was delicious, everyone licked their bowl clean. The prices are to be expected in Oslo. I bought a bottle of wine, a starter, entre and dessert for $130 ( everything was for one person). Note - this is not a set menu but there are options for that. There is also an English menu - forgot to take a picture of it. Service was great, our waitress continually checked in on us and even though it was closing time, she still asked if we wanted another bottle of wine. Due to the good experience with dinner, we decided to come back for the breakfast buffet which I highly recommend. The options were plentiful (eggs, reindeer, sausage, charcuterie, fruit, juices, breads -influding gluten free, you just have to ask for it, see pictures attached). It is $30 for one person for the buffet and it was worth it! I would come here all the time for breakfast. Note - you don't have to be staying at the hotel to do the breakfast.
