Flat Rock is a small and easy hike. I think the real attraction here is the education building. Unfortunately, it's still not open but you can still visit the trails. I'd suggest taking a look at the map to see which trail you want to take. When everything is open and we're not in the middle of a pandemic, they have some birds out to see and learn some cool facts about. There's a small parking lot but street parking is very easy. While the building is closed they offer hand sanitizer when arriving and leaving the park. It's a nice perk! Bring a few dollars to donate as well.

I have bookmarked a ton of places since moving here that I want to hike at or experience and this one was close to where I live. Parking was simple. No charge to get in. Not a ton of people. This park was really nice. They have plaques with information on each area and what type of habitat it is and what animals you can find in each section. We hiked the trails just after it had rained and I brought all 3 of my kids (14,5 and 2!) and it did get muddy but they have wooden pieces across most of the muddy areas so it wasn't too bad. We saw a baby deer!! We saw bullfrogs, chipmunks and tons of birds. My kids had a blast and this was fairly easy for them to hike without problems. I want to come back with just my older son and stay longer. Def worth checking out! Being outside is always better than inside.

Nice spot to escape from the city and shopping. The trails were muddy two days after the rain and the leaves covered most of them. The playground is a small area for kids to play and to run around. Would come back in the spring and definitely not after rain.

My boyfriend and I came out here to explore. Lots to see and experience out here. It was also cool that they had owls and other birds on display.

I saw this place after looking up nature centers in the New York/Northern New Jersey. I saw that it was minutes from the George Washington Bridge. There were a handful of reviews online, which were all favorable, and the website was also reassuring. The Nature Center and Trails are 100% free. The Nature Center is opened from 9-5 during the week and from 1-5 on the weekends. Those hours are for the buildings, the actual park itself is opened from sunrise to sunset. The main entrance is on Van Nostrand Avenue where there is a parking lot. In that immediate area, there is the Nature Center, the Quarry Pond the Boardwalk Trail. The Boardwalk trail has a few birds in caged habitats including owls. The Nature Center is small but very informative. The only live animals we were able to see in there were turtles. The Nature Center had a bunch of exhibits including some on ponds, the animals of the area and the landscape of the area. It was neat as well. Though don't plan to spend more than about 45 minutes or so in there. I read all of the exhibit in about 25 minutes. Also, though I understood that the building hours were until 5PM, workers had already started to close doors at about 4:20PM or so, so get there earlier. After we visited the Nature Center we took the White Path to the Red Path to the Orange Path to get to the Picnic/Playground area. This led us to the other entrance along Jones Road. You can enter on this entrance but parking is alongside the road as opposed to an actual lot as on the Van Nostrand one. Overall this was a great trip. It is perfect for a short daytrip. The trails are very short as our trip was about a 15 minute walk. I believe the longest trail is the Red Path which is only a 1-mile loop. The others are about half of a mile each. All trails are clearly marked. We did not spot many animals except for lots of chipmunks, but we did not go far into the park to the other loops. You can probably expect to spend about 2-3 hours here at most unless you bring food and use the picnic area.

I love this place so much! I come here a lot as I am lucky enough to leave just a few minutes away. The trails are nice, the park is peaceful. I love the stream and pond. They sometimes have maps there but you don't really need them. Park is clean and naturally beautiful. The nature center building is cute and informative. Also in the garden section they have a recycle area and injured birds and owls that have been saved. Josephine the big owl is beautiful. Highly recommend to go here. Its a nice getaway, safe, clean, and peaceful. Get to see lots of beautiful deer! Families of deers at times. Gets a bit packed on weekends but not overly crowded.

Very nice getaway and you can easily go through all the trails in one day. I was going it alone today so this place was a great choice because it's not so secluded and there were enough people on the trails to make me feel comfortable.

The hike was beautiful. It is one long trail that connects water and trees so you get a little bit of both scenery. The park is clean and dog friendly. There are benches and people bbqing but there is a lot of room to move around so it's never overly crowded.

Nice place to hike, but not too much to take in. There were some wildlife like turtles there which was a plus. I think there are a few trails about 1 mile each. It was very clean and trails were maintained well. This is a great place to take a hike and enjoy nature.

Nice easy hike with small kids. Best part was seeing rescued birds up close. People were great at wearing masks and distancing.

Aside from the many pieces that you'll see, you will also have chances to admire the wild life. They've done a good job at keeping the trails clean, wide, but you'll encounter many types of terrain so, I suggest hiking with boots. Also, take it all in and take your time. Don't forget to look up, as well. I will try to enjoy the conservancy in every season, to see how it changes and gives back to us.

I don't know what kind of hiker I would consider myself as I regularly hike a few of the Delaware Gap Appalachian trails and recently completed Lemon Squeeze in NY. I know a good tour guide when I see one though. Philipa built a full experience for the group, from getting to the mountain (public transportation, GPS if driving), what to pack, how to dress, fitness level suggestions, snack/lunch suggestions and weather updates. Even though the weather for our trip would not qualify for a regular summer day in July I felt prepared and mentally I had a great attitude (which I contributed to the preparedness). At the mountain Philipa went through basic necessities (bathroom uses), pacing and safety precautions. She also gave us information about the mountain which is the only reason I know exactly where I hiked and how high I climbed. We stopped the amount of times the group needed to and she built connections to the mountain giving us some historical information. After the hike we stopped in town for some ice cream and snacks. Overall I feel as each activity would be different as each mountain/trail provides different experiences. But for review purposes what I want to leave you with is that Philipa will not lead the 1st timer astray, an expert will learn at least 1 new fact and she caters each experience to the area. You will not regret it!!! You will love your experience!

Free parking. John D. Rockefeller, Jr. began acquiring private parcels in 1917 as part of his vision of developing a beautiful park with majestic views of the Hudson River and Palisades for the public. Rockefeller gifted the land to the City of New York in 1931, and construction began soon after. The park is about 70 acres in area. Decades after its creation, park goers can run or walk on the park's 8 miles of pathways, play on the lawns, and enjoy the city's largest garden with unrestricted public access, the Heather Garden. We saw tons of nice flower beds and blooming plants. Fort Tryon Park is home to the Cloisters (separate Yelp review), a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art that houses nearly 5,000 medieval works in a building comprised of several structures from Europe. Fort Tryon Park is home to Manhattan's largest dog run, complete with a gazebo for dog owners to sit and socialize, as well as two playgrounds, volleyball courts, and built-in ping pong tables. The pristine views of the Hudson River make the park the perfect setting for exploring, meandering strolls, and picnics. The George Washington bridge can be seen from one of the vintage points. If you are in the area, check it out...it's located on the northern part of Manhattan close to the border with the Bronx on the NW corner of the island.
