Always wondered where people got those super close views of the George Washington Bridge in their reels, and finally found this place! People might get confused by the two names--Palisades Interstate Park and Fort Lee Historic Park--but it's the same location. Parking is metered, and the rates vary by day. On weekends, it's around $2.50/hour. We spent almost 2 hours here, and it was totally worth it. The park is very clean and well maintained. There are several viewpoints where you can enjoy beautiful views of the George Washington Bridge and the Hudson River. There are also a few historical displays that tell the story of the area, which makes the visit even more interesting. There are plenty of benches to sit, relax, and enjoy the scenery. It was peaceful and not too crowded when we visited. On the other side of the park, you'll find old cannons, restored military buildings, and other historic structures from the Revolutionary War period. The views from that side are just as amazing. Overall, it's a great place to spend a couple of hours if you're visiting the Palisades. read more

I'm not sure if this is the Fort Lee Historic Park but I entered the trail in Fort Lee next to the bridge and it takes you to Allison Park. It's like you are in the woods with deer and birds. We also saw a deer that let us take a beautiful video. What a nice hike! read more

Met a local who brought me here and I couldn't believe such a beautiful area existed so close to the GWB/Hudson river! There's a path into the park where there's a few people walking, jogging or bike riding. The park area has a paved path along the water, plenty of tables for picnicking and a public bathroom. There was a sign to pay for parking but nobody was there to enforce. There's a path which lead to the bottom of the bridge, a place to dock a small boat and you can follow it further down along the water to the businesses down the street, it looks like there was a marina. If you take the path i the other direction, it leads to another park in Englewood which is another review. There was plenty of area where I assume people were smoking weed. I didn't see anybody fishing. I saw some woman being recorded while she sang and danced and other person was riding his 10 speed around in circles while somebody video taped them. Obviously the best part of this place is the view or the bridge and the city! read more

Wonderful park with some of the est views of the George Washington BRidge you can see. There is a small museum there which is free but accept donations. Lots of interesting small exhibits there about the historic park. That museum is now closed due to COVID but will open again in time. The grounds itself are also nice with sme nice trails and even some cannons. There was also a flat fee at the front entracne years ago but that has been changed over to paying at a muni meter once you park. As there are very few muni meters and lots of spaces, you may find yourself waiting on a long line to pay during peak days and times. You can exit the park and ake a short walk right onto the GWB walk/bike pathway which is a great experience. It does get windy up there so stay warm. read more

This is beautiful park that you just don't expect. Located near to the on-ramp to the George Washington Bridge, it is an little oasis of woodland in the urban jungle. We took a walk along one of the pasts, alongside some of the historical buildings, and had such a calming feeling. The views of New York City, if you want to face that direction, are incredible. Today on this summer-like Saturday our governor in New Jersey has re-opened the state parks and golf courses. My partner and I took this opportunity with continual social distancing came to this park in Fort Lee, NJ just a couple of miles northwest from the city center of Manhattan for some sun and exercise after being cooped up for several weeks. Located atop a bluff of the Hudson Palisades, it has a scenic overlook with a reconstructed Revolutionary War encampment and a Visitor Center which was closed due to the current situation. It wasn't crowded but we saw one couple with a hammock. We were within sight of the world's busiest motor vehicle bridge that crosses between the state of New York and New Jersey called the George Washington Bridge or GWB to the local. We managed to get on a rock that overlooked the cliff and the Hudson River. At this height, we were able to see the spectacular skyline of Gotham aka NYC. While there, we witnessed 3 turkey vultures soaring majestically in the sky within a stone throw from us. Parking meter still applies and county park police would drive by frequently with announcements to enforce social distancing. We highly recommend this place. read more

Pretty sweet park near the GWB. I think that this may be connected to Ross Dock picnic area via trail, but I'm not certain. Parking is not free, you have to feed the meter. It's not a very large park, but it's very convenient to park here if you want to walk or bike across the George Washington Bridge. The views of the bridge are pretty good too. read more

Named after Revolutionary War General Charles Lee, Fort Lee and Fort Washington on the NYC side of the Hudson were constructed to hinder British navel vessels from navigating the river. Major construction began in 1776. Today a two story visitor center/museum tells the roll Fort Lee played in the Revolutionary War through artifacts and reconstructions. There are displays featuring weapons, clothing, personal items, maps, etc. which faithfully relate the story of Revolutionary War Era Fort Lee. The museum is free and their are restrooms. If you walk north of the museum there are spectacular views of the George Washington Bridge. the Hudson River, the picnic Pavilion and the parking area. There is an automated kiosk that accepts credit cards and cash. It's $1 for the first hour and $2 per hour after that. There is a police presence in the park when I visited and the parking fine is $51 dollars. Weekends will cost you $5 for the first 3 hours and $2 an hour thereafter. South of the museum there are walking paths which take you to the mortar battery, garrison cannons, mortars, reconstructed block houses and soldier's cabins. Information signs are scattered through out the park which are a great learning aid. The park is virtually litter free with many benches and trees. There are 30 miles of hiking trails. Carpenter's trail takes you down to the Hudson River and right under the GWB. Photos of the GBW and the west side of Manhattan are the best in the area and night shots taken of the GWB are can be spectacular. read more

Two years ago I went on a mission to walk across every major NYC bridge. I had fun walking across the George Washington Bridge (that will be a future review). I have driven through Fort Lee, NJ, which has some great Korean restaurants and supermarkets. While walking across the bridge, I noticed the park on the New Jersey side. I decided to check it out. When I entered the park, I had a "Moment of DUH" when I realized that Fort Lee was named after an actual Fort Lee. It was an American fort during the Revolutionary War, and it was named after General Charles Lee. From the cliffs, the Continental Army would shoot cannons at British ships attempting to sail up the Hudson River. Of course, I love the historical aspect of the park. There is great visitor center/museum. Also, parts of the fort exist, including restorations of various buildings. You can also walk along the fort walls and check out the cannons and mortars. The park also some great views of Manhattan and the George Washington Bridge. You definitely will want to take your camera. There are also some wonderful hiking trails. While the park is free, parking is not. If you drive in, be careful, because if you don't pay, you will get a $51 fine. However, at $5 for the first 3 hours, and $2 each additional hour during the weekends, the cost of parking isn't expensive. Also, if you go during a weekday, the parking costs $1/hour for the first 3 hours, and $2 each additional hour after that. It's a beautiful park, and a great place to spend the morning or afternoon on a nice day, but, unless you are there for a special event, your visit would probably last about 3 hours anyway. There are also picnic tables if you want to have lunch there, and the visitor center has vending machines for drinks. read more

The park closes at six and I arrived at 5:45 for the sunset. Unfortunately the lot was closed and I could not enter with my car. I drove down the road a few miles and entered at a lower entrance. That lot was also closed but I entered a private property area where I was able to quickly park and run down for the sunset. I definitely want to return to see the view from up top as well as walk on the beach. There Was a paved trail and a gravel trail, however, I'm not sure where the gravel trail led to. The paved trail leads you directly under the bridge which was good for some photo ops. read more

Wow! This park is loaded with historical artifacts! I really enjoyed taking a walk around this tree lined park. There are benches around to sit as well. I love the view of the city from the park. Peaceful in the early dusk and litter free. Would definitely go there again! read more

Wow, this place is BEAUTIFUL! Came here to hike one day but man! Today was something different! I came with a bunch of friends today to cook some bbq and relax and wow, it was breath taking. The view was beautiful, the park was super clean and the weather was the cherry to the ice cream sundae! Definitely a go to place if you are in the mood to go on a picnic with your friends, family or significant other! Only downside was paying $10 for parking...like what...why so expensive..even the state fair was $5 parking read more

THE VISITOR CENTER which is inside the park was a pleasant surprise. Like the park, its free, and wonderful. I heard good things about the visitor center * my main interest & motive of going there, I had no clue the park itself was going to be so nice. There was alot of nice greenery and bushes, and trees and I wasnt that interested in it until I saw an ear in the bush and I leaned over and it was a deer! The deer ate some grass looked at me & then hopped away. I sware if I didnt see that I really wouldnt have been as interested in or so excited about the park. The Visitor Center, is a historical museum with a small touch screen of documentaries full of NJ history & unknown facts & thoughts of the state of New Jersey in relation to american history and civil war/democracy. There were also many push button narated exhibit displays of weapons, antique fashions, medical history & gems of life then. 2 floors of well put together knowledge, culture, and history..Ive been ripped off on entry rate for way sloppier, & less complete shams of exhibits & galleries in the city, so being this is all free AND gratifyingly fun - its definitely worthy of a visit. Cannons. costumes, treaties, and facts, a really nice small building with cool things. THE PARK -There were a few short trails in different directions. I was thrilled to see all of the butterflies and chipmunks. I saw a woodpecker when I was leaving the visitor center, but when I was walking through the path I realized now it was a blue jay I was looking at, and then a few yellow - rumped wardler birds that flew away, very cool! I was starting to feel like Snow White with all these animals coming around me in close proximity because Ive never seen or experienced that in any of the New Jersey parks I'd been to so far. Then all of a sudden I realized something Bambi was back! The animals in the park actually get really close up and personal, you have to keep walking slow or just stay still and they will come up to you. There were 4 different deers I encountered, the last one growing antlers, I also viewed beautiful brightly colored birds fluttering around that I cant tell you the names of all, but I do watch Nat Geo & Im perceptive enough to know they were the type of exquisite little creatures that proffesional bird watchers wait for. I really respect and enjoy the fact the park is open, free, clean, just a glorious portal or nature and beauty. I didnt care at all about the view of NY when i got to the top, I was more in awe of the deers because Im from NY so I dont care about looking at traffic. This park offers a few short trails in different directions, and the vistor center is as much an unexpected treat as the animals. No bbqing, or picnicing, no fires as the signs warn. Just have a nice happy walk. Very awesome hide away, way better than I expected. read more

I came to hike (walk, rather) with a friend on a weekend afternoon, and it was okay. The view from the top part of the trail wasn't so great because we were basically surrounded by trees and cars / road / highway. At one point it almost felt like we were hitchhiking! Anyway, the path right next to the water was much better because we weren't blocked by trees for the view and it was quite scenic. There's also a few parks that we passed next to the water and people were BBQ'ing; seems like a fun time! The path was mostly shaded and flat, so it's really more like a walk. American History + scenic beauty= awesome day trip!!! Fort Lee Historic park is a beautiful hidden jewel tucked away in the rocky Palisades. Located on a cliff-top bluff where the Continental Army positioned its batteries over the Hudson River in 1776, the grounds of this Historic Park blend striking views and history. This is a small park, approximately 1 mile of paved trails winding through tree lined paths. There are several benches along the way and some lovely scenic "look out" sections...........perfect photo opportunities. The view of the GWB and the upper west side of Manhattan are just awe inspiring. You can even see the Little Red Lighthouse at the base of the GWB on the Manhattan side. The day we visited, there was group of school kids on a class trip so we got to listen to the actors recreate how the Continental army lived, cooked and defended themselves. This is such a great place to come for a leisurely walk.....bring your lunch, bring someone you love to sit on a bench and gaze at the views.........we even saw a deer on our stroll. Can't wait to go back one night and see the GWB and the city lights glittering at night. It's serene, it's romantic, it's just perfect. read more

Agree with other reviewers. The park has gorgeous views of the city. One should try to access it by walking across the pedestrian path from the GWB bridge. You can take the subway to the GWB station. That whole area is connected to the larger Palisades Interstate Park (PIP). If, like one of the reviewers, you think this park is too small, you can hike north beyond the NJ/NY border in the PIP. read more

I thought it would be bigger. I thought there would be more open spaces. I thought it would be more historic. I thought it would be quiet. It's a little slice of ridge that has some amazing views of the GWB and Hudson River. There are parking lots, and walking trails, and a few areas with benches so you can enjoy the view, and a handful of picnic tables scattered about. There are a few small buildings which are recreations of what the originals would have looked like and also several reproduction gun batteries, again to mimic the originals. I'm sorry, but if I'm going to a "historic" site, I expect to see and experience some truly historic artifacts, buildings, etc. Not recreations. Having been to many historic sites along the East Coast that date back to pre-Revolutionary War times, nothing about this park felt the slightest bit historic. It was disappointing in that aspect. I walked all of the trails in about a half hour. They are all well-paved trails through the woods, so it's a nice walk, but a bit of a short one. It took about a half hour to do a full circle of the park. The entire park is pretty much just these trails through the trees. One of the biggest things that stood out about this park was the noise level of the nearby traffic. Between the traffic on the GWB and the traffic on the surround roads, it was not very quiet or peaceful at all. It was kind of annoying. read more

What a hidden treasure! I was so surprised and literally in awe when a few people took me here for a quick lunch in the sun. The gw bridge is right fricken there, the city is completely exposed and visible and that plot of grassy, bbq-able, picnic table equipped area is such a treat. Granted, I only made my way here because I was on the New Jersey side of the Hudson for work. A historical museum and a trail-laden park make this a great way to spend your time!
