    Website v Delivered Cake

I've never had to write a bad review before, but, this HAS to be said. The cake arrived, on-time and looked presentable. Not exactly like the photo on the website - apparently, that's only for illustration purposes. So beware, the cake you order isn't necessarily the cake you receive. Fast forward to Birthday presentation, candles and the cutting of the cake. Upon slicing, the cake is handed round with great aplomb. However, Heart-breaking disappointment. What A LET-DOWN ! The cake was sooo dry AND it was burnt all around the outside, clearly visible after slicing. Overcooked, overmixed, too much flour ? It was indigestible. I don't know when the layers were made, but there was no moisture to the sponge at all. Awful, awful dry texture and inedible. Even the icing was poorly glazed & tasteless. I cannot think what Flavourtown Bakery were thinking of to allow this to happen. After a payment of £75 !!!! So, Flavourtown Bakery are very aware that there was an issue with the cake, but refuse to offer a full refund. Offered a paltry £18 ?!? Do yourselves a favour, to avoid HUGE disappointment, give this 'Bakery' a massive swerve. RUN. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

The Paul near the hotel where I stayed is one of these places. I haven't changed. I loved a bakery then and I still seek out one when I'm travelling. I loved visiting this cafe. My hotel stay didn't include breakfast. Frankly, there wasn't a place to have some at the hotel itself. Instead, I bought breakfast items to my room to enjoy. I went to this cafe and got these items: - Pain au chocolat - Quiche lorraine - Red velvet macaron I paid with a credit card. I remember staff being super friendly and nice. I got my items in a couple of branded paper bags. I brought them to my hotel room to devour. The pain au chocolat was delicious. It was flaky and the dark chocolate was there in every bite. The quiche lorraine was enjoyable. It had the perfect ratio of eggs to cheese, bacon, and onions. The crust was yummy and held everything together. Both items tasted fresh. They were warm when I ate them at my hotel room. I went back to get a red velvet macaron. It felt fancy having it in its own box. It was divine! I'm glad that this cafe still exists. It's awesome. I became really fond of kicking off my Sundays with a proper bakery brunch. This week I visited…read moreHammersmith for some of its famous wunderbread. The game plan was to follow the savouries with the sweets while engaging in some casual sketching. The charming lady was happy to provide some butter to have with the bread (£0.20/portion) and so I went on to pick my stuff. Starting with the most aromatic, delicious pretzel I know Bakehaus was a hit. And so the rest of the goods tasted great with the highlights being the Butter-nut Crest, Bienenstich Pastry (vanilla and almond) and Chocolate-Hazelnut Crocant(delectable!). I have spent a solid hour in there and had a very relaxing start for the day, recommended!

Ask a German living outside of Germany what they miss the most about home and I guarantee you that…read morethey will almost always mention the bread. I do not have such strong ties to German bread, but my time in Berlin has taught me how to appreciate a good pretzel (with butter if necessary, not mustard, you heathen!). Bäkehaus isn't quite as gemütlich (or cozy) as your favorite neighborhood bakery in Germany since it's all self-service, but it gets the job done. The pretzels were soft and chewy and surprisingly enough, reasonably priced! Bäkehaus also offers loaves of rye bread and a plethora of sandwiches with a German twist (I spotted a pork schnitzel sandwich with cranberry sauce on ciabatta for £3.99!), so why not grab something here for lunch instead of opting for a pricey sandwich from Pret or a sad sandwich from Tesco? It's located on the high street just minutes away from the Tube station, so you really don't have an excuse.
