This is a lovely upscale restaurant in the city center of Killarney. They responded to my request for a reservation very quickly. I was at a nearby hotel and walked right over. They greeted me warmly and did a wonderful job of taking my food and drink order. The chowder was absolutely fantastic and the service could not have been better. This restaurant is very peaceful. comfortable and somewhat elegant at the same time. The only negative was that the restaurant got slammed right as I was finishing my meal. When I say slammed, I would say that about 60 people came in various size parties. I had to wait for 25 minutes for my check. I am an American so I may be unfamiliar with the customs in Ireland. I would have at least appreciated some eye contact while I was waiting for my check. They also seemed hesitant to let me take my chowder home, but that also might be a cultural thing that I just don't understand I would go back anytime if I was in Killarney. read more

Stopped in for dinner and was seated promptly. We were given the specials menu along with the regular menu, wine list and special drink menu. We chose the prawn cocktail to start, roast supreme of chicken, and the 16 ounce t-bone. The prawn cocktail came in a large crystal serving dish with about 10 prawns covered in a Rose Marie sauce on a bed of lettuce. Prawns were well cooked, nice and tender, and sweet. Two slices of brown bread and butter. The chicken was lightly fried and came with a stuffing of thyme and spring onion, gravy and French fries. Chicken was well cooked, flavorful and juicy. The fries were nice and crispy. The t-bone was 16ounces and came with mushrooms, onions, onion rings and fries. The steak was cooked as requested, medium rare. The mushrooms were small button mushrooms with sautéed onions. Part of the steak was nice and tender but there were parts that were tough and grisly and fatty. It was okay but not something I would order again. The onion rings, 3, were heavily breaded, stuck together and were not appetizing to look at and definitely not to eat. The fries were nice and crispy and served very not. This was an okay meal but based on it I'm not sure we'd make a return trip. Seating was probably the most comfortable that we have found recently but the place is very noisy and makes it hard to hold a conversation. Service was mediocre in that once we got our main meal we didn't see a server to come back and check to see home things were. We were recommended this restaurant by the B&B we are staying at and food-wise it didn't disappoint. We starting with a fish cake, that was quite good and included a tangy sweet sauce and a small salad with it. We got the fish cake as the first course of a two-course special. The main entreé was a Hake fish. It was an incredibly light and flaky white fish, that was served with a side salad and side of mash. There were two filets, however it appears one of the filets was not de-boned, which required some extra work on my part. Though, the flavor was fantastic. The sticky toffee pudding was mostly okay, but there was a burnt bitterness to it that was a touch off-putting. Ultimately, it was still satisfactory. Unfortunately, the service here was quite slow. It was difficult to get a waiter's attention for a dessert menu, and I was unable to flag down a waiter to put in my dessert order. After a few failed attempts I went up to the bar to do so. ...And to get the card machine to pay. Also, it really speaks to if you're in a touristy section of town when there's a notice about gratutites not being included. And it was only the 2nd time in my two weeks here that I was asked if I'd like to add a tip. I realize the tone of this review is rather negative because of the bad service on the night, but the food itself was rather good, despite being pricey for the portion provided. The quality of the fish alone is holding onto that fourth star by a thread. Would've been an easy five if the service was up to snuff though. read more

We were super happy with our dinner at Flesk! The food was amazing, we loved the fresh oysters and fish and chip meal! They also had a great wine list. The service was awesome even with how busy it was. The inside of the restaurant was super cute and they had a lot of different seating options! 3 star for service 4 star for food We were recommended this restaurant as a place where the locals go to dine. I had the lobster with creamed potatoes and my husband had the monkfish with creamed potatoes. The monkfish and lobster was excellent, however I think they forgot the cream in the creamed potatoes, as they were extremely dry. Service wasn't great, we asked a gentlemen about the American Legion hangings on the wall, and although he answered the question, he seemed bothered to do so. After our meal we asked our waitress for a dessert menu, and after about 15 minutes of waiting we finally waived someone down to just pay the bill. read more

Note: all my recent vacation in Ireland Yelp reviews will have the same 1st paragraph preamble, for just the review itself skip to the 2nd paragraph. On a whirlwind 2 week vacation to Ireland, the girlfriend & I tried to see & experience absolutely as much of this incredible land as we could. We did not accomplish every last activity we wished we could have on our rather ambitious itinerary. Nonetheless, we did discover a land of numerous stunning & magical wonders. We did see a land of unending natural beauty. We did learn of a land with a monumentally long history of trials, tragedies & triumphs. We did get to meet many kind, humorous, warm & generous people. Our vacation to Ireland was just 2 weeks, but that was time enough to know this is a land easy to love & a land to be sorely missed. Sharing its name with a nearby river, the Flesk is situated right in city center Killarney. For our last night in town, after having eaten mostly in pubs our previous meals, the girlfriend was in the mood for more of a nice restaurant dining experience. From the outside, the Flesk looked like it might be right so we went on in. I noticed 2 things immediately as soon as we stepped in: it was very warm & very brightly lit inside. More than 1/2 of the patronage was the post-retirement age crowd, maybe that was the reason for all the heat & light. We were greeted & seated promptly & menus soon followed from our friendly server. The girlfriend & I both opted for specials &, of course, pints of Guinness. She went for the Hake & I got the Rack of Lamb. We both picked Mash Potato as a side, both had veggies & mine additionally had some stuffing & onion rings. There was a fairly long wait for our food. We finished off our 1st round of Guinness & ordered a 2nd. When we finally got our food, it was all really very good. My Rack of Lamb was perfectly cooked to a medium rare with a delicious sauce on top of being lightly caramelized on the outside & tender inside. The girlfriend was served an extra fillet of Hake & I was the beneficiary of this unexpected boon. The Hake was exceptional. Under a thin, delicate, crispy, baked breaded crust, the fish was light, flaky & moist. The Mash Potato was yum. The veggies were fresh & snappy. My stuffing & onion rings garnish was a tasty complement to the lamb. With dinner all down (the extra Hake fillet turned already good portions into a big big meal), the girlfriend was still interested in getting some dessert. We had the Lemon Meringue, though it took some effort to order it. Over the course of our meal, our server had become less & less available. The Lemon Meringue was pretty good. But by the time we were done, it felt like we had been forgotten. We managed to get our check, but nobody seemed interested in collecting it. After we didn't see anyone for a while, we left payment on the table. Bizarre, everyone seemed friendly, but they just stopped coming around. Our dinner at the Flesk was a strange mixed experience. Though it took a while to get it, all the food we had at the Flesk was excellent. Service was friendly but evaporated over time. Afterward, we were both happy in a satiated way & puzzled. read more

This place was recommended by our carriage driver and he highly recommended the seafood stew. We hadn't had much luck with food during our trip so we weren't really thinking it would be that great but we were superbly surprised. The service was prompt and attentive and the seafood chowder was excellent. We ordered two bowls and it came with yummy brown bread and was filled with muscles, salmon, whitefish, clams and scallops. We also ordered a onion jam tart which was very good and we were stuffed! Great spot away from all the tourists (which we were tourists as well, lol). read more

On our self-drive honeymoon through Ireland, my husband and I stayed in the lovely town of Killarney. We were walking around the town on our first night and decided to stop in for dinner at The Flesk. We were very glad that we did! Our dinner was absolutely fantastic; the quality, flavors, textures, and presentation were wonderful. The staff was attentive, even during a very busy evening at the restaurant. I was a little worried when we walked in when I saw live seafood tanks that it may smell like seafood-but, rest assured, it did not! This was such a happy find for us for one of our first dinner-dates as husband and wife :) When we next visit Ireland, we plan on visiting Killarney again and we will be stopping by The Flesk! read more

Flesk kind of crept up on us as a total surprise during one of our nights in Killarney. The four of us were looking for a place in town to grab a nice bite to eat before wandering the streets in the rain to take in local music and other like-minded tourists who were hopefully not giving the "tourist" moniker a bad name. Immediately, this was the first place to come to mind for our guide and being that he had not steered us wrong, literally and figuratively, at this point in our two-week stint, we gave Flesk a shot. And it turns out this was a great decision. The first thing you'll notice about Flesk is that they have maximized their dining room space. Tables are plentiful, but they are also practically atop one another - it may look like you are going to be packed in like sardines between their dining rooms, but the reality is not so bad. The four of us were between three other tables and no one seemed to mind. I just point this out in case you get claustrophobic and want to wait two hours to get that token table by itself near the lobster tank. And oh yes, this place goes on a wait, and fast. There isn't really much of a waiting room, so reservations are pretty essential here. There does look to be a bit of a bar near the back of the brightly lit dining room to kill some time at, but do yourself a favor and book a seat before journeying over here. Your stomach will thank you. And speaking of giving thanks, now is a good time to give a shout out to the waitstaff here. I'm not sure if they just rotate around and help each other out, but it seemed like we had three or four different waitresses taking care of our table. And each one was excellent at her job, and quite nimble at navigating the close quarters of the tables and chairs. Of course, now that we're five paragraphs into the review of a restaurant, it might be a good time to mention the food. And the food was delectable from start to finish. With cocktails ordered, we went with the lamb chops, two orders of trout and a seafood sampler. The lamb chops ranked as some of the best in the country (which is really saying something), both trouts were cooked to perfection and my seafood sampler was beyond my expectations. I'm saying it now, this was the best smoked salmon I have ever had. But could dessert continue this high praise? Turns out, yes. The apple and raspberry crumble, while getting points for being a bizarro combo of flavors, was almost the best thing on the menu... "Almost" being the key word in that last sentence. But, no. That award goes to the bonaffee, of which we got two orders and demolished both of them. Just typing about that glorious creation some two weeks later makes me want to hop on a plane and jet back across the ocean just to taste it again. To sum it up, if you like seafood, love dessert, appreciate terrific service and do not mind a potentially crowded dining room, Flesk is the restaurant for you. Very efficient service considering how busy they were when we went. Fish cakes were fantastic. And according to my hot date, the fish was great as well. Unfortunately, the steak was awful. I ordered it medium, as the waitress description of a medium steak was accurate. What arrived at the table however was beef jerky with not even a hint of pink in the middle. Luckily they also provided some pepper sauce that I could drown it in, soften it up, and add a little flavor to the meat. read more

We are touring through 3 counties in western Ireland. We arrived at the Flesk on a hopping Saturday night. Although busy and seemingly full, the manager encouraged a waitress to find us a table for 3, and just minutes later she seated us. We had chowder, vegetable tarts, and salmon. I think if I could give a zero star I would. First issue, you don't have one server/waitress. So you basically have to flag someone down in order to get something. We were not offered any kind of drinks- not even water. As I looked around, I seen there was bottle tap water behind the bar. I ended up getting up and attempted to get my own. The only waitress that was really working that night, was the one bringing out the food. We even asked the manager for a wine list to order a bottle. That never came. Then when the food got to the table, he then wanted to bring it out- a little late. Now of course, maybe someone could say it was busy. But there was a ton of workers there. It seemed that because they do a group waiting service, if one fails at their job, it gives a bad vibe for the rest of the evening. The food was only so-so. read more

This place is just ok. The signs outside and inside really hype the place up, and that's what it is - mostly hype. The menu seems huge until you realize the items are repeated several times in different ways throughout. It took a while to start our service, but once they got our drink order things were fairly quick. Food portions were generous, but again just ok. read more

Food was excellent! Three people in my party had the lamb chops, and they raved about them. One caveat, the dish comes with a generous amount of sauce on it and it's not stated in the menu, so if unsure, order on the side and decide for yourself if you like it. Two of us had steaks, which were also quite, tender and tasty. The French fried are as good as it gets, so I would recommend those over average mashed potatoes (they call them creamed potatoes). The service was quick, but it is confusing as you don't have your own server, but rather a team effort, which can sometimes be a bit disorganized, as everyone is so busy doing multi tasks. I ordered a second glass of wine, but never received it. I also thought it was quite odd that they wouldn't give us separate checks, but did offer the option of walking up to the bar, and they will figure out your portion and charge your card or take cash, but we had to have three different parties do that and it felt like waiting in line to pay at a diner. All in all though, I would highly recommend for value, quality, ambiance and service. A nice experience! read more

I love this restaurant and I always go back whenever I am in Killarney. The atmosphere is nice, the service is first rate and the food is excellent. I had the lamb last time and it was perfect (significantly better than the lamb you can get anywhere in New York) and also I they had the best smoked salmon I've ever had. read more
