This review is for the restaurant not the pub. We came for lunch and found all the usual Irish pub offerings. The pie of the day, not on the menu, was steak and kidney, which I had to try "for research purposes". The pastry crust extended to the sides and bottom so it fully enclosed the filling and was served "freestanding". Crust and gravy were excellent. In the filling, both the steak and the kidneys were plentiful. My research completed, I probably wouldn't order it again; just give me the steak - no more kidneys please! Nevertheless I did enjoy and finished it. This was served with decent fries and a truly excellent green salad: a variety of leafy greens, radishes, cucumbers, pickled onions, and pre-dressed with a vinaigrette. The wife had the Beef & Guinness Casserole, served with brown bread. Along with steak there were also plentiful veggies (root vegetables and celery) and mashed potatoes in the center. She liked it. I tried it and agreed. I would get that next time. I had a Jameson Old Fashioned to drink and it was the best Old Fashioned I've had in some time. The unusually large twisted orange peel probably contributed and it may have had more than the customary amount of bitters. The wife's tea was amusingly served with a knitted "cozy" keeping the teapot hot. For dessert we shared a Sticky Toffee Pudding, served with vanilla ice cream, attractively presented with a dusting of sugar, whipped cream, and a ground cherry complete with its leaves. I'd rate it second among the three I've tried so far. Would certainly order it again. As for the pub I can't say. It has a reputation for good traditional Irish music every night but unfortunately not until 9:30, way too late for us. Sadly we're just not pub people. read more

Murphy's has great character and friendly service. It's a pub and a restaurant, but the atmosphere is definitely dark and pub-like. Very noisy when busy, but that's part of the fun! Music starts at 9pm. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. We had fish and chips, the stuffed chicken and sticky toffee pudding. Washed it all down with a couple of Guinness and a Red Spot whiskey! It was a lovely meal. read more

A fine place to stop for a quick lunch, Murphy's has a good menu and range of quick bites like sandwiches and soup. The vegetable soup was tasty (if a little light on salt) and the chicken panini was good. Service was a little clunky, and took a while to get the attention of the server for the bill afterwards. Local pub and restaurant with darts. It was convenient to eat here as we were staying at Murphy's Townhouse, and they also have their breakfast service here. We had dinner here our first night in Killarney and they had big portions for the food. I got the Irish chicken Parmesan which came with a Spanish slaw and chips. My friend liked her burger and we split a brownie with vanilla ice cream as dessert. The atmosphere is laidback and casual (as most pubs are). Credit cards are accepted. There are public restrooms available. They were setting up for a darts competition later that night, and based on the winners record on the wall, people take it seriously. read more

Stopped in for dinner and everything was great overall. My mom had the salmon with potato and vegetable. She enjoyed it. I tasted it and it was plain but good. I had the lasagna and it was really good. It seems they may be understaffed as there were only 2 girls doing both bartending and waiting tables with a full restaurant. It was Christmas Eve, and we had wandered in. We were too late for food, but it was just so serendipitous that they were still open (the only place on the street). Staff was lovely and towards the end of the evening, some of the other patrons were definitely getting jolly. We didn't want to keep staff too late minding tables, so we left after a few pints. Stopped in for a lunch on our way through Killarney. A cute little Irish pub -- the food is as you'd expect from a tourist town. If you ran a restaurant, and were guaranteed a few hundreds tourists on buses stopping in every day, you'd rest on your laurels a bit, right? This place is fantastic! Service and Food was amazing. We had mussels, Guiness stew, drinks, bread and so much more. Can't remember our waitresses name, but she was a young blond woman who had spent some time in Chicago working at a restaurant for summer abroad the year before. She had also gone to Africa for volunteer work. I can't remember her name, so I give you details about her because she was such a great asset to the Murphy's team. We were looking for a good Irish pub and found this place over night, but there was a 45 minute wait. We were already pretty hungry, so we came back the next day with a reservation. It turns out we didn't need the reservation the next day, but oh well. My husband wanted to start with the garlic cheese bread which was pretty good. Since we had been in Ireland for a few days, I felt like I needed to try some traditional Irish food, so I got the Beef and Guinness Stew. It was very good and I really enjoyed it. It was full of flavor -- the Guinness made the gravy very good. My husband got the Crispy Bacon and Smoked Cheese Beef Burger which he thought was just ok, but mostly because of the law that all burgers have to be cooked well done. My dad got the Traditional Irish Stew which was ok but lacking a bit in flavor. It's a pub, so is can get crowded and when it does, it is quite loud which isn't surprising. All in all, I enjoyed my meal, the service was good, and I would come back again. read more

Visited from cleveland Ohio recently. Absolutely LOVE this pub. Went two nights in a row and had a blast. Our bartender Jack was phenomenal, as was the rest of the staff. The locals are kind and welcoming (s/o Liam!) The food was delicious- we got a murphy's burger and the ham and cheese toastie with potato and leek soup. Ambiance was so comforting. This was the perfect place at the perfect time to an experience of the quaintness of Killarney. The street is dotted with pubs but this one stood out to us. They have a restaurant area and then I discovered that they had a huge Pub area that featured live music in the evening. We enjoyed a rainy night dinner that hit the spot. Of course we had to try the traditional seafood chowder accompanied by the traditional Irish stew. The best place to quench our culinary taste for Irish food. And of course that meant having absolutely amazing Red Ale. The Irish stew was more soupy then gravy which was a bit surprising but none the less it hit the spot. The best thing about this place was their homemade brown bread that was made with stout beer. After our dinner we headed over to the pub area to hear a traditional Irish jam band play the tunes that every American travels across the pond to hear. It was absolutely perfect! We stopped in for dinner Monday night. The atmosphere was inviting & service was great. The sirloin had delicious flavor but came out a bit more cooked than I ordered. We ordered the chocolate cake with ice cream for dessert..... WOW so good! The chocolate cake came out warm with chocolate fudge icing. The dollop of real whip cream & scoop of ice cream were the perfect addition to the cake. Now my favorite part was that our waitress gave us a soft pick tooth pick with our bill. On a trip with my mother in Kalarney. We wanted a bite to eat early after our tour of the Ring of Kerry. We chose this because it was close to our hotel. We walked in and we got the wings there for an appetizer. One of the best types of wings I've ever had. So crunchy and crispy but had a great flavor to them. I didn't even need to use the blue cheese. But but for entrées huge disappointment. Food was bland overcooked and very chewy. We should've realized this was a pub and we should've stuck the pub food. It was really nice to go into Murphy's and to listen to some traditional Irish music. Each table is candlelit and has a very relaxing atmosphere in comparison to the other bars in the town. The two evenings I came in here, both sets were calming and not as upbeat. A wonderful place to come to relax. It was nice to sit in here and have a Guinness. Please be mindful of the time that you eat dinner when you come to visit. Yelp had said that the kitchen is open until 11 but a lot of places in Southern Ireland are not. We got into Killarney a little later than anticipated and it appeared there were many restaurants to choose from but Murphy's had good reviews so that was my destination of choice. The place was busy but there were a few open seats at the bar so we grabbed them. The staff, though busy was quite lovely to us and we had one of our better meals of the trip at Murphy's. I had the beef casserole (stew) and my partner had the sirloin steak, both were solid choices. The highlight of the meal however was the pavlova with berries, it was so delicious my partner wanted to lick the plate clean. If we had been staying another night in Killarney we may have gone back a second time as the ambience is very comfortable. read more

Not a place for solo travelers! I've been traveling for a week now all over Ireland and have not had any problems dining solo! Very disappointed in the service here! I arrived around 8:45pm and there were three open tables. I was baffled when I was told my the manager they didn't have any tables and the wait would be 45 minutes. He asked if I wanted to sit at the counter by the fireplace and I agreed. I completely understand if you don't want to give up a whole table for one person. Then, I sat and waited to be helped/given a menu for 10 min. Meanwhile another party of 4 was seated and their order was taken. After this I just walked out! I'd rather take my service to a restaurant that will treat me properly as a customer and not treat me inferiorly since I'm by myself. There are tons of other restaurants in town and the next one I picked was delicious with the best service! read more

I immensely enjoyed the Cottage Pie I had at Murphy's, and also the potato and leek soup. I am so impressed that so many places offer vegetarian options in Ireland since my friend who I was traveling with is vegetarian, so considering all the various soups and vegetarian meals my friend ordered, this soup was truly top notch with such a wonderful depth of flavor. When I tried it, I was beyond impressed. The cottage pie and the soup were both served with homemade brown bread and a small side salad; it was perfect for lunch. The Killarney brewed beer is also awesome, and I truly appreciated our server's suggestion. The pub was one of the first with a dart board, and I love darts, so that made me happy. What a place for Irish stew. Yum. This quaint little pub is huge on flavor. I am a fan of dark beer and they had a Murphy's beer here that to me was better than Guinness. I wish I could find it here in the states. This is a Cozy little place that had both tourist and locals in it.
