4.5 stars, but I'll round to 5. There just aren't a ton of choices for furniture on island, so Flexa is a solid option given what we have. 5-6 years ago, when my son was growing out of his converted crib/toddler-bed, we ordered a mid-height lofted twin bed (bed, legs, rails, stairs), a mattress, tent cover, and a bookcase. Everything is modular and designed to fit, so the bookcase is a perfect fit under his bed, which is about 4 feet off the floor - not too high, and creates a nice reading nook underneath. There are a lot of configuration options, so it can grow with him, whether we opt for a higher loft bed or put it on the floor at normal bed height, this is furniture he can have well into young-adulthood. And he WILL because ooowee, this was expensive! Definitely not Ikea, even though it gives off that vibe. It has so far held up very well, especially compared to the heavy wood dresser we bought as a changing table when he was a baby that is covered in dings and scratches. The Flexa stuff still looks new and we've moved once since then. It came apart and reassembled easy-peasy. There are several finishes available, twin and full-size options, and lots of pieces like slides, desks, cubbies, etc. It comes flat-packed, so I was able to get all the parts home in a SUV, and I was also able to put it together myself. I needed a second person to help get the bed up onto the taller legs, but otherwise, it was straightforward to put it together. I recently went back in to get a shelf for the bed for an alarm clock, and it just hooks onto the rails so it can literally go anywhere. Also picked up a second bookcase which happened to be on sale, so that made the price a little (tiny) bit better. I went in on a Monday and was able to pick up from the store that Saturday. Not sure whether beds are available as quickly - I don't remember our original order available that fast, but that was years ago. Small shop/showroom, but they have nearly everything represented in-store, and you can order the configuration and finish you want. A few parking spaces right in front. read more

It's a sad day because my baby is growing up. She's getting way too big for her crib. And as much as we want her to stay small, the crib is just way too tiny for her. Her legs are all coming through the slats when she sleeps. So we decided to go bed shopping with her one day. We went to check out one furniture store and found a cute one but they said that it would take six months to get in. That was a little too long to wait considering she's already too big for her bed. So the next stop was Flexa. I found this place on Yelp and then I went to check out their website. They had some pretty interesting set up for their beds. It's modular furniture so you can just add on pieces as your child grows. Like you could add drawers under your bed or you could raise the bed and put a desk under. In the store they have a few models set up. My husband was drawn to the twin bed with three drawers under. He thought that would be great to store all her junk. More like hide her junk so it's off the floor, haha. It was nice and it came in gray or off white. The white they have there is kind of an unfinished paint job with streaks of blue in it. I didn't like that color. We decided on the gray one and placed the order. It will only take three months so that's not so bad. I've purchaed a lof of furnitures from Flexa ove the past years and am very satisfied with the product and their service. Their furnitures are high end furnitures made of chemical free solid wood. I've purchased their bed,dresser, wardrobe and desk. They still look new and are very sturdy. I also had great customer service from store and delivery team. The sales person didn't stalk me around which is the experience I had at most other furniture stores. The delivrry team was also careful and polite. They took great care to make sure everthing was handled properly,placed in just the right location. The prices are a little high but you get what you pay for. We just visited Flexa to look for beds for my twin boys. When we walked in we were greeted by the sales woman. She was helping another couple so we walked around the store. The bed displays are so cute and my boys loved seeing all of the bed models. The store wasn't too large but had different layouts and bed sizes to help you get an idea of what you want. The sales woman also gave us a catalog to look at while she finished up her sale with the other couple. When it was our turn, she was very knowledgeable and helped us choose the color and size that we wanted. We ordered a bed for our boys that will be coming in November/December. I found this store off Google and was bed shopping for my kids and when we went inside immediately the store is really small and the shop owner? Was really nice. She explained that all the beds are pretty much the same and fit like Lego pieces so if we want a single bed we'd just have a single bed, if we wanna make it a bunk bed we'd add another bed on top with spacers and if we wanted it taller we'd use bigger spacers and if we want it like an L shaped bunk we could do all that with the same beds and different spacers. Also if we wanted to change it around, we don't have to wait for shipping we'd just go to that store. Then all the materials are non toxic and if babies/toddlers or anyone decides they wanted to try and bite the railings, they won't get sick or hurt (baby safe paint and wood). They also sell mattresses that fit their bed frames ($300 for a twin). I also liked that you can have the slide parallel to the beds instead of perpendicular. Which saves a TON of space (though my fiancé said yeah but could be hard to get out of the lower bunk bed if there's one under. So I said it's be fine bc it's like a club house on the bottom, it would probably still be fine) The only down side is it's EXPENSIVE but you pay for quality materials and convenience and this store really is quality. We can't afford to get these rn but maybe one day. I hope they can get more business bc these beds seem great for all ages and all layouts. read more

I always want to decorate my kids' bedroom as their little playground. I chose Flexa because their designs are super cute and the most important is the materials they used are high quality standard. I bought a bed + trundle pull out bed with drawers and some fabric decorations from them. The bed come out perfectly and my 2 kids love it. The sales person, Angela is very patient although I keep changing my mind on my order. Tips: 1. Popular color is usually sold out fast. Sometimes you need to wait for next shipment. The furniture is solid and nice quality. The staffs are very friendly and kind so, I ended up buying an additional daybed for the guest bedroom. Flexa's twin bed length fits on me, a 6-0' male. Even Flexa Hawaii's prices are slightly cheaper than Flexa USA website. We were looking for a toddler bed and came to a Flexa. The sales associates were very helpful and patient. I had a lot of questions and she helped me make the best decision on which bed to get. I love that they are so versatile and the design can change with your child and family. From toddler bed with rails to a bunk bed to a loft with a study under it. The list goes on... The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the pick up times are hard. They have a set time for pick ups and if you work M-F the pick up time might conflict with your work schedule and there's no wiggle room. It's very set and you have to pick an hour? time slot. I believe they said they don't do weekend pick ups. Also the original arrival date of our bed kept getting pushed back. Ended up coming 2 months later then they originally told us. We decided to assemble ourselves to save some $$ the lady said should take 2 hours. It ended up taking us 6 hours but we are not the most handiest people so you might have better luck! I do love the bed! I'm happy with the quality, very sturdy and solid! I bought my mattress at slumber world around the same price that flexa sold their mattresses for on sale. The flexa mattress seems soft and flimsy and since I was told that during the toddler years the spine in still developing it's good to have a firmer mattress I went elsewhere. Just make sure it's about 7-8"? thick. Anything higher will make it close to the railing height. read more

Cute little shop for children's bedroom furnitures right on Kapiolani. Quite pricey, but I'm a believer of "you get what you pay for". We were on the hunt for a bunk bed for our 2 little ones when we came across Flexa. Although pricey, what got me was the quality of their products, and a huge plus--they're chemical free! We opted to skip delivery & set up, and decided to set everything up ourselves (only because we couldn't wait and wanted our kids to use their new beds right away). We ended up spending more than we budgeted, but again, I'm very happy with our purchase and the overall quality of everything. The bunk beds are so sturdy that even my husband and I can go on them without feeling paranoid that it'll break. Angela was great with helping us pick out a style, and she kept in touch regarding pick up date for our purchase. My only gripe (hence the one star missing) would be location. The area seemed sketchy and not somewhere you'd feel safe bringing your kids/family. Lots of bars and just overall sketchy/grimey people in the area. read more

TERRIBLE customer service. I called TWICE to inquire about availability of a part. The oerson who answered the phone said she needed a part number and to look it up on their website, then said i shoukd email them. I did - and they never got bacj. Called to follow up and asked for it by part number and she said she needed a description. WTF - i cant imagine their store is so busy that customer service isnt a priority when anybody whatsoever calls for help. She was increasingly rude and condescending and when i asked for someone else to speak with she proudly said she was the manager. OF COURSE. So basically the manager is a difficult, miserable person with no regard for customers. I even said "can you just help me so i can go there and GIVE YOU MONEY?!" I bought a Flexa bed several years ago for my son and it was definitely a mistake. I'm not sure if it's the humidity or the climate, but the slats always seem to bow and slip out of the slots even with the covers on them and this is just from regular use not jumping or playing. It's annoying and happens at least once a week. I have to remove the mattress and put the slats back into place, definitely not fun at the end of the day when you're tired. The outer frame itself is nicely designed and sturdy, however the slats and tension belt are not the quality you'd expect for the price. I would not recommend this bed for children. read more

My girlfriend and I bought a bed for her son from Flexa and were very impressed with their products! When I was a kid, I always tried to turn my bed into an impregnable fortress with blankets, pillows, and clothes pins. My sisters would try to sneak in but I would stand at the entrance, superman cape blowing in the fan, and hold up my hand defiantly. "Duh, no girls allowed!" If I had known about Flexa when I was a kid I would have tried to sucker my parents into buying me a Flexa bed. Flexa is like Disneyland for a child's bedroom! All of their beds and furniture are modular, meaning that they fit together or stack up in a way that follows their philosophy of "use the space at least twice." For example, a set of drawers or desk will fit perfectly under a mid-loft bed, but can be switched out for a second bed to make a bunk bed. This makes for some major space-saving. You can even get cool additions like a chalk board for the side, a tunnel for the top of the bed, or a colorful plastic sheet with windows that attaches to the frame to turn the space under the bed into an awesome boy-cave! Did I mention you could get a slide for your bed?? Ahem, I mean your child's bed? The customer service here is very personable and welcoming. They have 3D computer programs that let you recreate your home in 3D to see how the furniture will actually fit! So definitely bring some measurements. Kids can play on the beds and try them out to see which ones they like. Flexa offers financing and delivery and setup for a fee (I think it was $90). It took them less than 20 minutes to install ours. In all, we got a twin frame with mid loft extensions, a ladder, a twin foam mattress, a set of drawers, and delivery for around $1700. AMAZING! These beds are so awesome. We took my son here (2yo) he loved it! They let your kid try out the stairs and slides as long as they take off their shoes. He had a blast. The beds are solid. Its cool because you can buy the basic bed and always add to it. For example add a bunk or shelves ect. The only down sides are they only offer two colors of wood. Light brown or white. Also they are pricy. :-( most of the ones we looked at were 900+ just for frame. Not including mattress or decor. The staff when we went were 2 younger females. My daughter was getting too big in her crib. So I was looking for a bed that would last long. And I was recommended this brand from many people around me. They said it was made of solid wood and does not use any checmical on the frame. There are many options for twin or full bed. I ended getting twin mid loft bed for my daughter because it was not too high(she is only 7) and she can play under the bed. The sales associate told me Flexa bed is modular system so I can always change to different style later. So far my daughter loves her bed very much and she sleeps in her bed by her self! I was looking for beds for my children as they were getting older. I heard from acquaintances about Flexa about how versatile they were and decided to visit their showroom. Their showroom has many different types of loft and bunk beds. I originally wanted to get full size bunk beds for my children, but ended up with twin size bunk as my daughters' rooms are too small. Some of the benefits of the beds are that they are made up of solid wood, so they are very sturdy (I sleep with them time to time), and that they don't use any harmful chemicals on their products so its very safe for kids. I recently returned to the store and changed one of the beds from the bunk to the high loft with desk for my oldest daughter (as their bed system is modular and can always change) and she enjoys her bed so much! This is a great store for toddlers and kids to buy bed frames that are painted with non toxic paint, no harsh chemicals in the wood and if you are looking to change it up or down in the future, this is the place to go to! I purchased the full size princess bed with slanted ladder, hand rail on the side, and a slide. It is raised up enough that she has a little loft underneath to play in. There is also a thin matt that fits for a twin size but we got it anyway. I must say the theory is great and knowing that there are no chemicals in the frame and paint and finish is what I am always concerned about. But make sure you DO NOT purchase the spring mattress they convince you to buy because the cover top is soy based...its a ton of crap. Its a spring mattress that is NOT COMFY AT ALL! When you go into this store, the korean lady that was helping us at the time had a very strong smell of alcohol on her breath, as if she was drinking the night before. Then she has you sit on the corner of this junk mattress and doesnt tell you there are springs in the mattress at all! At this day and age, the memory foam mattress is the way to go. I have the cloud 9 temperpedic mattress that my daughter has been sleeping on with us for the first two years of her life. So for her to sleep on her bed is just NOT working. Then the lady that helped me, stated that she was going to order this other bed set with an angle slide since its not that common and if we wanted to change back to the normal princess bed with straight slide, it would cost $1 more...sure enough, I call back and it wasnt $1 more like how she quoted me. She then told me it would be $49 more. I was like? You tell me that if I want to change to the one I originally wanted for $1 more and now its $49? Really? I was really pissed off with that one! Not only did I complain, she then told me that a lavender bedside tray I ordered was not included into the invoice we had already paid for and that her associate forgot to tell me that the side tray will be on special order and wont be in until July. I was furious! I specifically spoke with this manager woman the day I purchased my bed frame, different panels, pillows, 2 mattresses, side trays, and a 6 drawer dresser with lavender panels and she forgot one item? Really??? Next thing you know, she comes on the phone and apologizes to me that her associate was quoting me $49 for the bedside tray and its actually only $9.50 with tax included for the change of the bed with different slide. I said I was coming in on Monday to pay the $10 and dont ever think Im coming in to do business with you again! Her associate called me back on Monday saying that they waived the $10 fee and still went ahead and special ordered my bedside tray. If I didnt want it when it came in then that would be fine. I was like "Okay, thank you...?!" So use your judgement wisely when doing business with this company. The bed frames are great but my daughter will NOT lay her head on this spring mattress. We have to go to Sleep Land by Target and pick her up a full size temperpedic mattress tomorrow. I am giving everyone a fair warning not to buy their mattresses. My mother purchased a bunk bed for my sister and I to share over 10 years ago. As university students, we are still using our beds as daybeds now, and they are as sturdy as ever! Worst customer service experience ever! I'm sure they have a great product line but unfortunately I never got that far into the store to experience it. My family walked in at 6:53 pm (they closed at 7pm) and the first words out of the store employee was, "are you here to pick up?" I said no and she replied with, "we close in 5 minutes." I explained I just wanted to look at what they had real quick as they came highly recommended from a very friendly sales associate at Ashley Furniture. The woman briefly went over what they had with a very half ass attitude. The type where they are telling you that you can't afford the product so don't waste my time. My wife asked for a catalog on the way out (they had a whole stack) but the sales woman replied that those were store copies and we can just look online for the information. We walked out of there feeling very disrespected. I get it, you are closing soon. I'm not trying to stay past 7pm, I just wanted to see what your store has to offer. This is a great store to get beds for kids! They have loft beds where your child can sleep up top and have a study desk below. They have twin-size bunk beds, which are perfect if you have two kids and live in a 2-bedroom condo. I also saw a full size bunk bed. They have these colorful canvas tent-like structures that your kids can put on the bed to make their little fortresses or castles. They even have a slide available to attach to the bed. Just imagine taking the pleading and haranguing out of telling your kids it's bed time! The quality is good, too, since they are made in Denmark. They have a sign in the store that mentions that formaldehyde is NOT used in the manufacture of these beds, and isn't that a nice thing to know? Hey, come to think of it, LEGO is made in Denmark, too. And you know, my kids are absolute geniuses when it comes to designing things out of LEGO! Do you suppose that the fact that no formaldehyde is used in the manufacture of these beds is the reason my kids are LEGO geniuses? I mean, who cares if the sample size for this study is only two.
